Telim'Tor's Challenge IV

Greetings, sir!

Erm... I'm starting to have second thoughts about this being the first challenge I participate in. After all, 360 total CMC means that the average card has to have converted mana cost six... without taking lands into account! I'm having trouble naming a Modern-playable card with CMC five...

...huh. CMC six? I do know of a six-drop card that would synergize quite well with the high cost cards I'll certainly have to run.

Four Color Genius

The Core
4x Blast of Genius
4x Autochthon Wurm

CMC: 0 + 4*6 + 4*15 + 4*15 = 144
Off to a nice start, if I do say so myself. 15 damage will often be able to close out game 1 considering the amount of damage a Modern manabase deals to itself. How will we land an early Blast, though?

The Ramp
4x Coldsteel Heart
4x Spring // Mind
CMC: 144 + 4*2 + 4*9 = 188
Coldsteel Heart and Spring provide not only ramp, but also much-needed fixing. Spring // Mind also does respectable damage when pitched to Blast, but since that's true of nearly every card in the deck I'll stop mentioning it.

The Removal/Control
4x Commit // Memory
4x Consign // Oblivion
4x Hit // Run
4x Rags // Riches
CMC: 188 + 4*10 + 4*7 + 4*8 + 4*11 = 332
The bounce of Consign is essential to not dying early, while Commit's tuck helps stop threats later down the line. Rags helps against decks with small bodies (especially Young Pyro). Hit is arguably the most important- in games 2 and 3, your opponent will be focusing on not letting their life total drop below 15 and avoid dying to Blast. Taking just a few points of extra damage from sacrificing a CMC 3 creature can push them into lethal range.

The Last Card
4x Discovery // Dispersal
CMC: 332 + 4*7 = 360, on the dot
Discovery serves primarily to help dig for Blast, one of the CMC 15 cards, or a specific answer, but Dispersal is actually relevant as well. While most of the split/Aftermath back halves are too expensive (Riches) or irrelevant (Run), Dispersal is very relevant and costed low enough to actually be castable.

Modern fortunately has the fetches and shocks to support a four color manabase, though not without some pain.

CMC: 360 + 4*9 + 4*6 + 4*5 + 3*5 = 455 (5 over!)
The easy way out would just be to toss in 4x Inquisition of Kozilek or Duress and call it a day, but a) that's no fun and b) the deck not meeting mainboard CMC requirements post-sideboarding feels like cheating. So:
Blasphemous Act is another sweeper for aggressive matchups. Reduce is for control or combo where you need to deal with noncreature spells. Statue is a catch-all as artifact/enchantment removal or just single target creature removal. Carnival // Carnage can be used to kill small creatures, but also rack up damage on control players while reducing their options.

The "competitive against 60% of the Modern metagame field" is a tough requirement, both to fulfill and to judge, but I do feel this deck could pick up (a) win(s). Even if it doesn't, this was a very interesting experiment.
