Posting a TL;DR version of this idea I've been ruminating on for a while.
Bravo is a cube built with Alpha as the only reference material, meaning that the templating tricks we've figured out over the past two decades don't exist yet. Wizards hasn't figured out that you can put spells "on a stick" (no Man'o'War for you); they've only just begun to think about saboteur triggers (Hypnotic Specter, the bastard). Cantrips? Never heard of them.
Other design notes/decisions:
> Power level is less schizophrenic than Alpha.
> Modern color pie, more or less.
> Spells are more powerful than creatures.
> Mana is easy - places to spend that mana, not so much.
> Color hosing and color changing are both common.
> Counter types haven't been standardized.
> Influence from public domain fiction in the Western tradition - Shakespeare up to, uh, Gatsby?
> There's a simplicity to the cards conceptually, a simplicity that comes not from "New World Order" or any such nonsense but from being the first of their kind.
Some cards to give you an idea what I'm thinking here.
I'm considering including split second here, and possibly some sort of fixed banding. Not sure if I want either - but both interrupts and banding are "old magic" abilities that I think could be interesting here.
