Hello everyone!
So I just came up with this mechanic because, basically, I was kind of fascinated by the word Crescendo. It just has this appealing way rolling over the tongue, you know?
Anyway, the mechanic I came up with looks like this:
Crescendo <number> <cost> Rather than cast this card from your hand, you may pay {param2} and exile it. If you don't own an exiled card with a crescendo counter on it, put {english_number(param1)} crescendo counters on it. Otherwise, put a number of crescendo counters on it equal to the number of crescendo counters on the exiled card you own with the most. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a crescendo counter. When the last is removed, cast it without paying its mana cost.
So it's a bit like suspend bit with the added perk that everything resolves at the same time, making for very splashy plays. The cards I prepared might be too powerful in combination but that's not my issue now. I rather see the mechanic a way too wordy and was wondering whether someone here could help me out shortening it. Thanks in advance!

wordiness aside resolving a non-negligible number of crescendo spells at once will be a pain more than it will be awesome. all in all this looks to have more cost than it does things worth the cost, I suggest just using suspend

It might well be that you're right, fluffydeathbringer , but I'm just dealing with the wording here. After all, even if this particular mechanic turns out to be unworkable, maybe it can lead to some more fruitful ideas.

fortunately reminder text land is a silly place and so there's more room to pare this down in. maybe something like
"<cost>: Exile this if you could cast it. Put three crescendo counters if it's your only crescendo card in exile. Otherwise, put X counters, where X is the crescendo card you own in exile with the most. At the beginning of your upkeep, remove a crescendo counter. When the last is removed, cast it without paying its mana cost."

This is still eight lines of text in the box by itself, and that's using 3 as <foo> and a single mana circle as <bar>.
It goes without saying a keyword with eight lines of text is not going to reasonably permit much other than the ability itself, limiting its use to creatures almost exclusively (as they don't necessarily require rules text).
