Welcome to The Golden Era: Night of Thieves
Welcome to The Golden Era: Night of Thieves
The Golden Era: Night of Thieves is neither a sequel or a complete remake of the original Festenya set. It is instead a reimagining of the set as if it were made in 2018-19. Certain cards survived the 2018 reimagining, but vast chunks of the original set have been given updates for the modern era. What's new?
Out With the Old
Just a Few Touch-ups
New Mechanics
So with everything that's gone from TGE, what's new? Three mechanics, Smuggle N, Invest, and Opulent make up NTV, as well as a generous amount of cycling cards. Smuggle is primarily UB, and in G secondary. Invest is BW and secondarily in R, and Opulent is in all colors.
Arcuns
For the first time in Festenya, take command of your draft with 5 multicolor arcuns that help with deckbuilding!
The Bleeding Effect
In a city the size of a plane, togetherness and community tend to seep out into other colors. In A Night of Thieves, you'll see white-aligned effects bleed into RBG and U!
A Grey Area
As white leaks into other colors, it leaves a certain emptiness in its own philosophy. The ancient Umbre cult, lead by Senator Nyatt Umbre, have moved in where white effects have moved out, rooting traditional B effects in white's generally good nature. Pay life, sacrifice permanents, and even take your opponents own life as you embrace the darkness within the Umbre family.
New Faces and Fresh Looks
With everything that's changing in TGE, what else is there to change? Dive into the set file, downloadable below, to see some new faces, as well as fresh takes on familiar cards. There's way too many to list, but here's just a few you can expect from A Night of Thieves.
The following have been removed from Festenya: The Golden Era: Extort, Trade, Skulk, Prowess, Affluent, Wit, and Clue tokens. What stayed? Cycling stayed but has been completely retooled to become the evergreen keyword for U/R. While it is evergreen for those colors, it has remained on the cycle of lands in order to preserve their functionality.
Just a Few Touch-ups
Mechanics weren't the only thing to get gutted in A Night of Thieves. The three districts, Stalbrit, Karloni, and Vitora have each been given an overhaul. They have each been given their own culture, inhabitants, and building style to help set them apart from one another and feel like distinct "cities" within Festenya. Stalbrit is now Storia, the down-on its luck slum of Festenya. Smoke and smog from the factory district to the south, Smokeheap, clog Storia's air with thick plumes of soot and ash. The buildings are mostly ramshackle wooden and stone huts connected by snaking waterways that drain from Wildspring in the east. Karloni is now Kinsfield, a bustling stone metropolis built for the working man. Shops, markets, clubs, and street vendors dot the area, and the district is always buzzing with gossip. Vitora is now Vitalia, the rich and famous side of Festenya. Flowing gowns, lavish parties, and a good rumor or two are all common in this glittering art deco style district.
