kefke: I like it. As for morph you will need a large card pool with Discover in order to make it interesting. You could create creatures with Discover also, even creatures that tap for mana.

I feel like discover belongs in a set with Landfall and another lands-matter ability. It’s a really interesting concept and I like it.

I present to you... something. Slumbering Selkie - Creature - Merfolk Noble Inspired - Whenever Slumbering Selkie becomes untapped, tap Slumbering Selkie. : Put a +1/+1 counter on Slumbering Selkie. It loses all abilities until end of turn. Untap Slumbering Selkie. 3/3

sdfkjgh actually inspired me here when he suggested tapping cards in hand. (Excuse my funky render.) To redact a card, you exile it from your hand. You may return one redacted card you own in exile to your hand during your upkeep.

Flourish of Antlers - Enchantment All Elf permanents are 3/3 Elk creatures instead of their other types. "Dear, dear, only deer have antlers like that. Here, let me help."Because Llorwyn. And Eldraine. And bad puns.

I just playing against a Command the Dreadhorde deck that ran Jace, Wielder of Mysteries. They managed to snag my Timestream Navigator with the namesake card, and activate it, and the ensuing trigger chaos from exploring, Wildgrowth Walker, and Risen Reef managed to empty their library. I was ecstatic at the prospect of winning, only to have my dreams and illusions shattered along with my in-game avatar, because fucking Jace's triggered ability. So here's this:
Hot Potato Legendary Artifact This spell can’t be countered. If Hot Potato would be put into its owner’s graveyard from their hand or library, that player puts it on the bottom of their library instead. If a spell or ability an opponent controls would cause Hot Potato to leave the battlefield, that player gains control of Hot Potato instead. If you would lose the game, you win the game instead.

How exactly do you enter the battlefield from the battlefield?

So, it's entering the battlefield from the stack. But this is just me being pedantic - the right wording here would be "When X enters the battlefield, if it was cast from the battlefield, (effect)" - and not answering the real question here, which is "why keyword what's basically a really complicated way to do Dragon Roost?"

ETB and LTB triggers I assume. Better question: what’s wrong with phasing, which is exactly what this is?

There is actually a significant difference. Being cast from the battlefield does a number of things that simply activating an ability does not. - When it goes on the stack, it would no longer be on the battlefield, and lose any attached permanents and counters.
- Being cast from the battlefield clears damage and resets summoning sickness, as it is effectively a "new" permanent.
- Entering the battlefield from the stack activates all ETB effects that care about the creature, not just its own effect.
- While activated abilities usually (not always) can't be countered, this can. Also, if it is countered, you lose the creature, which is not the case even when activated abilities can be countered.
- Since the effect specifies that you're casting, you could only do so when timing would normally allow.
- Casting from the battlefield cares about effects that affect when and how you cast spells. For instance, you couldn't do it if something says you can't cast creature spells.
Probably a few more things that I'm forgetting.

I wanted to do a sort of take on Old Fogey's or Blast from the Past's jokes in the form of something that used as many pre-determined token types as possible. It's sort of a failure, because there are actually less of those than I thought and I ended up adding Thopter tokens in to pad it a little... but then I found the art, which was too much of a flavor win for me to abandon the card.

That makes me an idea: Ghostly Advokist - Creature - Spirit Cleric Ghostly Advokist enters the battlefield with three +1/+1 counters on it. Afterlife X, where X is the number of +1/+1 counters on Ghostly Advokist. 0/0

Yet another card designed in my sleep:
Jimbo, Envoy of Calamity Legendary Creature--Goblin Warrior First strike, haste, trample When Jimbo, Envoy of Calamity leaves the battlefield, sacrifice two lands, discard your hand, then exile all the cards from your graveyard. 4/2

Merry Christmas! Have some bad card ideas. Retromancer - Creature - Human Wizard Whenever you draw your second card each turn, draw a card. They draw endless inspiration from visions of the distant past.1/2 Expanding Vistas - Sorcery - Look at the top 2+X cards of your library, where X is the number of cards named Expanding Vistas in your graveyard. Then you may reveal a creature or land card among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest of the cards revealed this way into your graveyard.

Bah. Humbug. Spirits' Intervention Instant Choose target unblocked creature that's attacking you or a planeswalker you control. Create three 1/1 white Spirit creature tokens blocking that creature. No mortal being could stay the warlord's anger - so the world beyond intervened.

Impetuous Dragoncaller - Creature - Viashino Shaman Dragon spells you cast cost and an additional "Discard your hand" to cast. When a Dragon enters the battlefield under your control, it fights Impetuous Dragoncaller "DARGONS!"2/2

Lady Mapi: Yes, it's a Viashino, but I can't help thinking of Impetuous Dragoncaller as a very young Sarkhan Vol. Like, prepubescent, and still misspeaking words. Just think of the stereotypically bratty younger brother who's always hanging onto you, embarrassing you in front of your friends, and he just won't leave you alone for two seconds GOD! Even his beloved "dargons" hate his annoying little guts, and wanna squash the pest flat.
Yeah, I was that little brother.

Time Bear - Creature - Bear Kicker Suspend 1 - When Time Bear enters the battlefield, put two +1/+1 counters on it if it was kicked. 2/2 EDITHonorable Duelist - Creature - Human Warrior Exalted Whenever another creature you control attacks alone, you may have Honorable Duelist fight target creature defending player controls. "You are not worthy to dirty their blade, cur!"2/3 Dreaded Judge - Creature - Vampire Noble Exalted, Lifelink Whenever a creature you control becomes blocked, each creature blocking it gets -1/-1 until end of turn if it attacked alone. "My job is to ensure that the best man wins."1/3 I just want a set with Nobles that focuses around Exalted. Is that too much to ask?

Alright, fixed that oversight. How about some cards for the new year? Lady of Sprouting Seeds - Creature - Dryad Knight Forestwalk When Lady of Sprouting Seeds attacks, you may put a land card from your hand onto the battlefield tapped. When Lady of Sprouting Seeds deals combat damage to a player, untap target land you control. 2/2 Landshare - Sorcery Gain control of target land until end of turn. Untap it. Within the riotous heart of Ild, nothing is personal.

Inspired by Ironscale Hydra:
Oozeblood Hydra Creature--Ooze Hydra This spell can’t be countered. Trample If damage would be dealt to Oozeblood Hydra, instead create that many token copies of it, then put that many +1/+1 counters on each permanent you control named Oozeblood Hydra. Whenever this permanent becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, this permanent deals 1 damage to itself. 1/2

How far can you take a joke in card design? Similarly, how many ways to play a card is too many ways? About this many, I'd bet.

MaiApologies (She/Her): This'd be funnier if Wizards hadn't already made the exact same joke, but executed better, before.
Here's a card whose main ability was designed in my sleep:
Farrah, House Tactician Legendary Creature--Vedalken Knight Soldier When you cast this spell, choose a card type, then look at the top X cards of your library, where X is the amount of mana spent to cast this spell. You may reveal any number of cards of the chosen type from among them and put those cards into your hand. Scry the rest. Trample Farrah, House Tactician’s power and toughness are each equal to the number of cards in your hand. */*

...Whoops, forgot about that one. Well, the main impetus was the Felt pun anyway, so oh well.
Isn't X irrelevant, since the spell will always be cast with exactly 4 mana? Right now it seems like it could just be 4; interaction with cost-modifying cards/casting without paying mana costs seems like too weird an edge case to design around without an X in the cost.

Zacharias, Tartaros Escapee Legendary Creature - Human Rogue Trample, Haste Escape - , Exile four other cards from your graveyard. (You may cast this card from your graveyard for its escape cost.)~ escapes with two +1/+1 counters for each creature card exiled to pay its escape cost. When ~ escapes, you gain 4 life for each land card exiled to pay its escape cost. When ~ escapes, it deals 2 damage to any target for each noncreature, nonland card exiled to pay its escape cost. 1/1 So, I took a long break from designing MTG cards but I have this idea for an Escape card that cares about what types of card you exiled to play it so here we are. Thoughts?
