Cogwork Cartograph Artifact Creature - Construct Draft Cogwork Cartograph face up. As you draft a land card, you may reveal it, note its name, then turn Cogwork Cartograph face down. When Cogwork Cartograph enters the battlefield, search your library for a card with a name you noted for cards named Cogwork Cartograph, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle. 1/1 It's kind of a stiff Skittering Surveyor. I can't really dicide between and . The effect is rahter , yet it's probably has a bit too wordy for that. Another problem this posts is that you probably should keep the basic lands in the booster. Yet I imagine this could be in a set that has possible other lands in the basic land slot, so you'd have to do that anyway. And yea, it would actually suffice to draw it turn two and not in the opening hand. I argue this would still reduce the probability of a mulligan if you have it in the opening hand - given you noted a nice land to fetch.

Thanks for the win! Next up: create a common or uncommon card you would want to have in your opening hand. Whether this is because it's a land, a one-drop, ramp. a trap, some kind of leyline effect, anything! As long as one could argue the card being good in your first hand. I'll be judging this tomorrow. Do submit something, as there are only two submissions at the moment.

Staunch Plagiarizing Instant Draw a card. Whenever an opponent would draw their first card each game, you may reveal this card from your hand and exile it. If you do, instead that player skips that draw and you draw a card.

Land ~ enters the battlefield tapped. When ~ enters the battlefield, if you control no other lands, you may put a card from your hand on the bottom of your library. If you do, draw a card. : Add .

Judging! Because it is tomorrow (plus some days)! {Spoiler} Flo00 - Cogwork Cartographer: A pretty good draft card. Land assurance on a body. Also being able to stack it with multiple options if you have multiple copies makes it even handier for being also mana fixing lite. And your argument for this being nice in your opening hand I do agree with. I think playtesting would be needed to check for its rarity, as the amount per packs does matter, as lands can become too sought after. Context is important. viriss - Flow of Knowledge: Strong. Being able to begin the game with an extra card is pretty strong (it is the main balance mechanic for starting second after all. You either double (for yourself) or deny (for your opponent) that advantage). It’s also really free, as the card itself is still an okay card to have in your opening hand, as you can play it turn 2 as a one mana overcosted cantrip (unlike cards like the Chancellors which don’t have very strong effects themselves (though they see little to no play)). ZephyrPhantom - Staunch Plagiarizing: You just want blue to be hated even more than it already is, don’t you? I’d say this is even stronger than viriss’ card, as it costs even less to play, but at the same time it’s more annoying. Especially if someone needs that first draw for hopes of a land. Though it is less powerful than viriss in the sense that you’d be exiling this as instead of keeping it in hand. So regarding it as a manaless random discard and otherwise a cantrip… I don’t know if it’d be strong. I’d say the reveal-effect is more black than blue, but blue sometimes does anti-draw, so it fits. Daij_Djan - Furry Chefs: this being a 1/2 for 1 makes it alright to have in your opening hand. Its’ effect… not so much. First turn: this card. Second turn: Create a food with something like Treats to Share. Third turn: you get one extra life. It really isn’t too spectacular. thaneofglamis - Whirlpool Cache: An interesting land. And I’d definitely put it at uncommon, not rare. It’s a big tempo loss for an island that not often has upsides. Running 4 of them? Only 1 helps, the rest is tempo loss. But it does help with less great opening hands. Win: {Spoiler}Alrighty! You have all submitted interesting designs, but only one is the winner. It’s Flo00 by the way. Second is thaneofglamis

Seems like not everybody is as much a fan of charms as I am. Let's give this 3 more days, shall we? If nothing happens, viriss auto-wins.

Boggart's Charm Instant Choose one - • Create two 1/1 red and green Goblin creature tokens with haste. • Target creature gains trample and wither until end of turn.
• Target creature you control gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Then it fights another target creature.

Since the most recent color pie changes to black allow this, how about we give a tri-hybrid charm a try?

Grimseed Charm Instant Choose one. Choose both if three colors of mana were spent to cast ~. - Target player sacrifices a nonland permanent they control. - You gain life equal to the number of cards in your graveyard. A somewhat different take on a charm partially inspired by Daij's entry. Old: {Spoiler} Grimwell Charm Instant Choose X, where X is the number of colors spent to cast ~: - Target player exiles a nonland permanent they control. - Target player discards two cards, then draws a card. - You gain life equal to the number of cards in your graveyard.

Daij_Djan That really is a curse! love that picture Flo00 This is a cute common curse. I think it's missing (or maybe it was intentional) a "until end of turn" type clause, otherwise this keeps stacking? And it gets confusing when there is a lot of choices on where to use it. kefke just caring about those two token types feels a little too narrow. But flavorwise it sure fits great! Maybe loses life or has to pay life instead of damage? I feel like WOTC keeps going back and forth on black dealing or loses life. Jartis For an uncommon to add X cost feels too good and turns into a lot of math. Maybe an additional 2 so it still has an effect when their hand is empty? Winner Daij_Djan

And it gets confusing when there is a lot of choices on where to use it. Yes, there is mmissing a "this turn" at the end of the sentence. The two situations where I can think of having a choice is in combat and when a spell deals damage to multiple things at once. In both cases you choose which damage yu want to prevent. I guess it gets more complicated in multiplayer, since the player controlling the damaged permanent gets to choose replacement effect order. Not sure how that exactly works in this case. Congrats to Daij!

Big thanks for the win! Completely forgot to post a new challenge..
The iconic races are five creature types representing each color at higher rarities, often used for big and expensive (mythic) rare bombs: Angels, Sphinx, Demons, Dragons and Hydras. Only on rare occasions, these races show up at lower rarities - but it does happen from time to time. And this shall be one of those times! Design a common or uncommon card for one of the iconic races with a mana value of 3 or less! Have fun, everyone!

It might be fair to exclude Hydras from this contest, since the bulk of their cost usually comes from X. On the other hand, they'd still need to work at or , so...
