The soldier hears the knock on the door, and leaves his spear against a far wall.  He opens it, and looks to see the sad-looking Karina.  His helmet off, but his hair actually decent looking for once, his face immediately expresses concern and worry.

"I'm...I'm sorry about what I did yesterday," she whimpers to the soldier. "I just wanted to help, but... I almost got us hurt, didn't I?"

"Karina, no..." he said, kneeling down on one knee to see to her eye level again.

"I wanted to help, but I almost hurt people instead," she cried. "I'm not any better than her, am I?"

Aiden looks at her for a moment.  "Karina." he said in as soft a voice as his normal deep one could muster.  "You didn't do anything wrong.  Not a single thing, okay?" he says.  He smiles at her.  "I was an orphan for a long time - my parents died when I was young.  I had a rough time.  For a while, I stole.  I'm not proud of it.  Those were dark days." he said.  "Then, I met my wife and had a beautiful daughter named Rose.  And for a long time, I was happy.  But then... well, I showed up here.  I still don't know how, but I did.  And for a long time, I was panicked, lost, and confused." he stops and wipes a couple tears from his eyes.  "I guess what I'm saying is... when I found you, I felt like I had purpose again.  Something to fight for, besides just getting home.  You're now like a daughter to me." he said, putting both hands on her shoulders.  "So don't even worry about it, okay?  You did everything you could and more.  And I'm proud of you for it."

Broken Facade: I like it, short, sweet and to the point.  10/10.

The machines continue their scans, leaking more telepathic fragments in languages (are they even languages?) Aiden doesn't recognize. Then, just as soon as they came, they're back off into the distance with a sudden burst of speed, jittering through the sky like drunk herons.

On Paranoid Envoy: Is this too much upside for a Wind Drake? I think it probably is at common - but this is a fine design otherwise, good tech that foils my card on multiple axes. I want to give this a 7.5, but I know you don't like fractional scoring so 8/10.

Aiden's eyes shot open.  He looked outside from his sturdy bed.  "Still night." he muttered, sitting up.  He put his head in his hands.  He had just refused the offer from the demon to resurrect his family.  After he had left, and he entered his shack, he had tossed the spear in anger against a wall, it clattering to the ground.  He looked to it now - exactly where he left it.  He wasn't sure what he was doing anymore.  His whole family was dead, his home infinitely far away.  He had Karina to look forward to whenever he could, but... she wasn't his daughter.  He couldn't act like it either.  Even Ms. Oblay, this supposed monster, had seemed to be a more parental figure than him to her.  

He looked back outside.  What was he doing?  Everyone here was some sort of planeswalker or magical being or demon or... something.  Someone.  Anybody.  He grimaced as he realized who he was in this place.  Absolutely no one.  He had no magic powers, no planeswalker abilities.  He looked at his spear.  No, he was a man with a spear.  And a weak one at that.  He had almost sold Aylin out to that... thing.  His self-loathing welled up inside him, and tears formed in his eyes.  "No..." he said aloud.  "No..." he muttered again, "NO!" he shouted at the top of his pathetic lungs.

Worthless. 

Weak. 

Inadequate. 

Useless.  

Afraid.

He looked to his spear.  Usually when he had these thoughts, the light shone from it and comforted him, quelled his inner voice.  But it remained still.

...

What was he doing here?

Verbal Insult: Most people would probably pick land early game, and then be situational later game.  It can probably be a common, looking at cards like Despise and Inquisition of Kozilek, maybe do a hand reveal too? 8/10.

Ice-Formed Guardian: Seems fine. 9/10. It’s a fine blue creature, but I could see it at common but it does depend on the set.

Nimble Slash: Good white buff, the "if it's blocked" feels a bit weird but that's fine. 9/10.

The soldier stopped in his tracks as she slowed down.  He... could he really do this to her?  He was using her to try and replace what he had, and he knew it.  He made the attachment too quickly.  How much of a terrible person was he? It made him feel horrendous, locked down this inescapable path of self-loathing and cycle of regrets.  The spear began to glow a red color.  He should walk away.  He should leave without saying another word.  He should make his way home and suffocate himself in these thoughts, to spare her the suffering- until he remembered.
That rage at being abandoned.  The only way to quell it was to... get over it.  But even after he was recruited into the training program, it took him years and the birth of his child to come to terms with the fact he was abandoned.  Inadequate.  And he never wanted to put anyone through that.  Even if it might hurt her in the end, she would know that he cared for her until his last breaths, and live for the now.  He turned to the girl and smiled, his spear calming down.  "Yeah, Karina. Let's go on an adventure."

Karina, the Student: Doesn't feel very red, more like a black effect.  Probably or ? 7/10.

It continues launching attacks. It seems to not be trying to avoid hitting the shield.

Shielded Mercenary - A nice blocker for white. Seems about right. Only slightly concerned by how board stall-y a 3/6 for 4 can be though. 8/10

Aiden looked at the demon.  He was already too late.  Things seemed to slow down for him.  "NO!" he shouted, holding his spear in a fighting position.  There it was again... the shaking fear.  Fear.  He had to protect Aylin, he had to do what was right, he had to

"This is your chance, Aiden... Strike her! Strike her right now and I will give you your family back!"

A deal, worth everything.  He couldn't raise Karina as his own, his own family dead, his kingdom basically gone to him forever more... Malextros said he could bring his family back.  And he believed him.  No, no, he couldn't be... he readied his spear.  His eyes glazed over into a pure white.  "For someone like you... never." he said, his voice deeper than usual.  He slammed his spear into the ground, and a white blaze of light shot from the tip of his spear directly at Malextros.

"Though the sun may set, I never will!" he shouted, repeating the Sunspear slogan.

Coax into Murder: Weird effect, at first it seems like too much mana and then you realize it can be pretty easy to untap creatures too.  I think at rare it's not up there enough for that, but at uncommon seems kinda good for that, it's also very situational and in limited can be a big dud because you lose a creature for combat purposes.  Neat flavor though 8/10.

Aiden of Sunspear: kind of taking it as a gift (vigilance) and as an attack (granting stuff indestructible) at the same time. Not sure about the 7/7 lifelink since Avacyn, Angel of Hope is already a great card (granted, she gives everything you own indestructible, but in this situation I think the lifelink is better than the flying). However, this is the kind of all-in Aiden card I was expecting to see, so my inner fanboy will take over and give you a 10/10!

Malextros raises his arm, pointing it with an open hand at the ray of light. The second it comes into contact with his palm the demon completely dissolves, leaving only the dark mist in his wake. For a few seconds it seems like it's over, but the demon reforms from the mist. One would think he would be angry at the assault, but his smile has only widened, if that was possible at all.
"Then you are no longer of use to me" he replies coldly.
He raises his hand once more and, for a fraction of a second, something similar to a scar can be seen on the palm, something that definitely wasn't there before the beam of light struck. With speed no mortal could hope to match, the dark mist begins surrounding Aiden, forming a gigantic pitch-black hand that grabs him and violently tosses him outside Aylin's tent.
Malextros stares at Aylin.
"Now, where were we...?"

The soldier is tossed outside the tent, landing on his ass and rolling onto his back, and of course he doesn't notice that scar.  He remembers this feeling, this anger at being unable to do seemingly anything that his parents left him with.  No.  He COULD do something this time.  His eyes are still pure white.  He looks at his hands and his spear, wondering how he's doing this, then remembering where he is.  "No, no!" he whispers, standing up.  

Don't worry, soldier boy.  You put the fear of the sun in that demon. Now show it what you can really do.

He grunted, people kept invading his mind... not important.  He ran back to the tent, his spear tip glowing bright white and his own white mist combating off the black mist from getting near him.  "If you know what is best for you demon, you will leave.  NOW." he shouted, his spear illuminating the tent with blinding light.  His limbs quit shaking, his mind clear, and he no longer cared what Aylin wanted here.  This was now his fight, but he would defend her if he had to anyway.  

This is what he must do.

Eliminate the Dead Weight: you and your wordy card names I think you showed off how your card works perfectly with how you did it.  Double the mana for double the Fling, but that is a lot of damage with one card potentially.  I think it might be better off as a rare? 9.5/10 but again practice what I preach so 10/10.
