Technically, though, none of the printed creatures with emerge require colorless mana; they just have purely generic mana costs. Sounds like it's your call, boogyman. True. It just feels weird seeing next to a generic number. That and it adds a bit more of a requirement to playing the card, though admittedly not much of one since any Eldrazi deck will likely be running more than a few colourless (and even multi-colourless) mana sources.

I argue against because Eldritch Moon didn't have any colorless mana matters theme at all (this was in Oath of the Gatewatch), so it would be an odd fit. But I advise strongly to get the Beleren fonts, like kefke suggested.

gluestick248: Sadly it doesn't. Cards are melded from exile. I thought about it, but I decided it was too wordy to also include melds. Actually now that I think about it... I'll try it anyways. Tesagk: I guess it's for flavour reasons, but a white color indicator plus devoid is kinda contradicting itself. You could just leave both out.

Alright, here we go. Sorry for closing it while you all were still talking about the cards but I don't want to let it slip more days, because I might not be able to judge it otherwise. Just for clarification FLAREdirector : Not gonna comment about your previous entry, but I like this one much more. It seems fairly balanced, but I'm going to point two "flaws". isn't used in Eldritch Moon in costs, so the ETB trigger should probaly be . Also I see the point in giving trample only to Eldrazi Horrors but I think you could extend it to all Eldrazi, as most of this set's Eldrazi are either Eldrazi Werewolves or have another subtype, but I get the point in only giving tample to the tokens. Anyways, I think it should also have trample, for making it "feel" better and for avoiding confusion to new players. viriss : Seems okey, but a little dissapointing as a rare, looks more like an uncommon. Also, it's a spider so it would be better as a 5/6 (just partially kidding). kefke : This is... strange, I have mixed feelings about it. 1) Persist seems like an ood choice to me. SOI block doesn't use -1/-1 counters and anyways I think the flavor win would have been using Undying. Personnaly I would have used something like "Until end of turn, when a creature you control dies for the first time, return it to the battlefield under its owner’s control." 2) What does the second mode do? I mean, if each player skips their next turn, nothing happens. 3) This is fine, balanced at four mana. Outside of the set context this would be fine, I think (given that the second mode works in a way I'm not getting). Jartis : You know, just FYI, I actually thought about setting the restriction in only meld cards, but they are tricky to desing. About your cards, Tainted Waters seems a litltebit on the powered side, and I don't think melding it is a good idea some times, as enchantments are usually harder to remove than creatures. If it was -1/-0 is you control and Island and -0/-1 if you control an Swamp it would feel more on color and the reward for melding it would be greater. Just my opinion, though. ameisenmeister : Nice nod to past Innistrad sets. The card seems balanced, and, even though the trigger is a little convoluted, it works well. I would love it if it also checked permanents you control transforming into colorless creatures but that may have made it even more cramped. Anayways, very solid design. gluestick248 : This is missing rarity, but I see it ok as a common or uncommon. Probably its better use is sacrificing Soldier tokens. Flo00 : I like it (I fact I suggested the same for another entry whitout having thought about yours). It supports the archetype around Extricator of Sin, one of my favourite cards in the set. I see it being splashed in limited in red green eldraziwolves decks also. Tesagk : Probably too strong at three mana, especially at common. I see it costing four or even five as you are bassically getting five power and five thoughness. My main problem with it, is the use of devoid, a keyword notused in this set. I saw it suggested in other comments and the most logical reason is using the Extricator of Sin template, no color indicator and no devoid. Boogymanjunior : I want to like this but the mana cost of bugs me a lot. Also, as I adressed in another entry using isn't an option here either. I think I would have made it something like . I give you extra points for making it a 1/0, it's awful for perfeccionist people but plays very well in giving it a Eldrazi-like feel. {AND THE WINNER IS...} This was difficult but in the end, the win goes to ameisenmeister , with Flo00 and Tesagk as runner-ups. Thank you all for participating, I love judging this contests (but they are pretty exhausting)! EDIT: Just realized I could have edited last post xd.

mrlozano: 1. You're probably right. Persist was just the one I remembered off the top of my head. 2. Okay, I guess this one needs the context of other cards. As I said, I was designing the card to hose Emrakul. Emrakul, the Aeons Torn gives the caster an extra turn, and Emrakul, the Promised End takes control of an opponent's next turn, then gives that opponent an extra turn. By skipping every player's next turn, both of those effects get denied. Casters of Aeons Torn are denied their extra turn, and when your opponent casts Promised End, you skip the turn they stole and get the extra one.

But I should point that it doesn't work with Aeons Torn because, say, you cast it in response, your opponent skips the extra turn, you skip your turn, and your opponent plays their normal turn. They get two turns in a row. I don't know if you get me. Wow. Was completely ignorant on Devoid there, I apologize. Was that in Battle for Zendikar? Yeah, Battle for Zendikar and Oath of the Gatewatch.

@keftke FLAREdirector and mrlozano I thought about making it cost but that would have been a deviation to all the other emerge eldrazis in Eldritch Moon which all have emerge cost less in generic mana and one coloured mana added. I am sure that outside of Eldritch Moon, this limitation can be ignored, but it doesn't fit in this set. I didn't thought that the would cause that much "trouble", so I went with that. But it's alright, tbh I probably would choose ameisenmeister as well kefke Also thank you for these recommendations! This error with the overlapping text didn't arise when using the 8th Edition style so maybe I will use that as long as I don't get behind this error. But I hope I will learn more from all these templates and am soon be able to fix that.

I realize it doesn't do anything green, mechanically, but it just didn't feel Jund enough in mono-red.

The ETB enables a Naya deck for one turn, and when it becomes unearthed it works as a part of a Grixis deck.

Demon of the Varakna -- 1BRG Creature - Dragon Warrior - Rare Flying, trample Whenever ~ attacks, you may sacrifice any number of permanents you control. ~ gets +2/+2 until end of turn for each permanent sacrificed this way. 4/4
This is a play on the mechanic 'devour' from the Alara block. It is meant so that smaller green mana dorks that are useful for mana fixing in the early game and small red hasty creatures can be sacrificed to push loads of damage through in the late game.

I figured I would honor the fact that Shards of Alar introduced mythics, but I sort of went more mechanics based than flavor based in this entry in the hope that the mechanics would showcase the flavor. Royva is a champion fighter, one who gets stronger the more support she gets.

Okay, let's do this!
{kefke} Reminds me of Scornful Aether-Lich and doesn't seem half bad. I'm kinda turned down by the fact that it costs black mana to cast and then also black mana to activate it's ability. Maybe there would have been a more elegant solution but it could also just be my personal taste. Flavor is spot on, as usual.
{gluestick248} I usually like simple and elegant designs that turn out to be way deeper than they seem to be at first glance but a vanilla 5/4 might just be a bit dull. Also, "it can attack alone for Bant". C'mon, basically every creature can attack alone! ;-) However, I like the bravado here of you just pitching a 5/4 artifact creature and be done with it. At the very least, it's a refreshing change to the planeswalkers and uber-mythics that are spammed in these challenges sometimes (not that I categorically dilike those).
{Jartis} Yeah, you are right about that this thing doesn't do anything green. Maybe you could have it gain some buff as long as you control a creature of a certain size so that it is powered up by dragons and Naya behemoths alike? The buff itself doesn't seem too exciting, too. This thing will mostly be a 2/2 for four mana and even if you control a dragon, a simple Magma Spray(a common from the set) will kill it.
{FLAREdirector} Seeing that you don't like Alara much makes me wonder why. Many people seem to dislike it because of the low power level of some of the cards. Your card involuntarily (?) fits this as it is pretty weaksauce. Just have a look at Woolly Thoctar! Same mana cost but is a 5/4 instead of a 2/2 and will likely be always better than this. You got the flavor of Naya, being a world of humanoids that are inspired and strenghtened by the behemoths rather than trying to tame them, but your execution is a bit underwhelming.
{gateways7} Now this is interesting. It goes into the same "simple but clever" direction as gluestick248's card but adds a bit more complexity. The idea to have it matter in two shards is a good one but I'm not convinced of the execution here. First off, people will be confused to see a card that buffs itself but can't use the buff without further work. Stuff like that is fun on the occasional rare but not at common level. Second, it doesn't really activate a Naya deck for one turn. When you look at the power-5-or-greater-matters cards of Shards of Alara, you'll see that they almost all help your big guys to get even bigger, give them first strike, prevent damage, etc. All this is pointless when the creature can neither attack or block.
{somerandomtom} Nice take on devour here. It feels way more swingy and avoids feel bad situations like when your new creature that just devoured some guys gets killed instantly. On the other hand, having two mechanics do almost the same but different kind of muddies the mechanical identity of the shard. You would have to choose whether you want to sac your creatures to a devour creature or to this dragon (which is awkwardly named "demon of..." O.o) I like this card in a vacuum but believe that it's an odd fit to the Alara set, not despite it's closeness to devour but because of it.
{Tesagk} Oh boy, Seeds of Strenght, here I come! Honestly, this is a pretty novel idea, but I'm far from sure that the rules support this. This isn't a big issue though. What is is that this card is not blue in any way, yet costs double . Positive is that it encourages you to play a lot of exalted creatures in a new way.
{Boogymanjunior} For starters, there is nothing wrong with your card. In a vacuum. I like the mind control/brain hack flavor tied to an attack trigger and the artwork and flavor text fit Grixis just fine. However, it seems that you missed that this challenge is about Shards of Alara, the set, not the block. So researching the rare distribution of Alara Reborn is a noble thing to do but doesn't do anything for this particular challenge. That, sadly, also then speaks against your flavor text, which clearly indicated that the shards have already gotten closer together. The card itself is, as I said, totally fine, but bears a maybe too strong resemblance to Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge. I don't blame you for probably not knowing about her, but still.
{mrlozano} No, you're not too late. It seems you came just at the right time to steal this show. You usually don't want to sacrifice a three power (or even higher) creature, but if it gives a huge bonus to your whole team, then it's probably worth a try. The devour 1 on this guy is also not just a meaningless indicator that it is from Jund, but can be pretty meaningful as it increases the buff it grants when dying. At first I was sceptical of granting a team buff as you are playing Jund and are likely to sacrifice your little creatures rather than attack with them but then it dawned on me that this might be exactly the right amoung of tension for an interesting rare. It also offers a nice plan B, if your big buddies can't go through alone, then just sacrifice this Minotaur and get in with your whole team of 1/1 saprolings. Fine card!
{And the winner is...} mrlozano ! Your card had just all the pieces that I was hoping for. Nice interaction with a shard's mechanical identity while giving it a new twist. Fitting artwork and amazing flavor text were the icing on the cake. Thanks to all of you for participating. If you have questions, remarks or just feel treated unfairly, don't hesitate to contact me. Until next time!
EDIT: Apparently, I messed up the spoilers again. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thank you for the win! I desingned the card based purely on the artwork, I had some other ideas for what to do but this seemed like the best. Alright, your next set is going to be a set from along time ago... Ravnica Allegiance!!! As a restriction: Your card must support a guild mechanic, without having it (example: Disinformation Campaign).
