I never liked the Izzet Guildmage. It's abilities are way too specific and I never found a propper way to use the card. So I decided to rework it: Izzet Guildmage Creature - HUman WIzard : Draw a card for each instant or sorcery spell you have cast this turn, then discard that many cards. : Izzet Guildmage deals 1 damage ot target creature for each instant or sorcery spell you have cast this turn. 2/2 I think I've hit the wrong block. I allways confuse them. Feel free to ignore my entry.

Interesting challenge given that GRN block already has all ten guildmages with a reasonably rigid mechanical framework. With that in mind, I thought I'd redesign the Legion Guildmage with a little more combative flair to have better synergy with the mentor mechanic. {Text} Legion Guildmage Creature - Human Wizard , : Creatures without flying can’t block this turn. , : Another target attacking or blocking creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn. 2/2

The Guildmages of this alternative cycle cost two hybrid mana each, are 2/2s and have two activates abilities with . The first is a small ability with hybrid costs, so that you can cast and use the mage in a non-guild color deck, and a second ability that costs two different colored mana that you can only use when your deck really is of the appropriate guild. Aurelia's Guildmage supports the mentor mechanic and attacking in general. Pretty Boros.

sdfkjgh I like the three ability idea. I do think each ability should cost more. Flo00 Nicely balanced. This is an Izzet guildmage I would try to utilize. SilentKobold I like the difference between before/after blockers are declared between the abilities. ameisenmeister "All creatures" getting indestructible at uncommon feels too powerful. Putting them at sorcery speed is a good start towards balancing it. Winner SilentKobold

Thanks for the win Next Challenge: M15. Additionally to add some flavour (and not break the rules so blatantly), your card must be set on the plane of its colour's soul*: - Theros - Ravnica - Innistrad - Shandalar - Zendikar - New Phyrexia
*No multicoloured cards, though I'll allow off-colour abilities

Poison Engine Artifact Convoke (Your creatures can help cast this spell. Each creature you tap while casting this spell pays for or one mana of that creature’s color.): Each tapped creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn. Eventually the corruption consumes them all.

Judging is up. { sdfkjgh }A powerful value engine, while still keeping to the simplistic minimalism of a core set. Mechanically, I think it's balanced in the right place as while it can be argued it offers more value than Soul of Shandalar's ability, the aggressive nature of the format requires far more support to facilitate it. Flavourwise, I could do with a little more to tie it specifically to Shandalar itself. I also wouldn't have minded some for some additional fire-elemental flavour text as I'd suggest the 5/4 red elemental body is a little less iconic than 3/3 green centaurs or 5/5 dragons. { ameisenmeister }A great callback to Shandalar's dragon lord that also provides some much needed limited support for Crucible of Fire. My only, and quite minor suggestion, would be to move this down to common (maybe bumping the cost to ) to 1). give the crucible access to a common dragon and 2). prevent it from being mistaken as a signpost uncommon for a wizard archetype give red's total lack of wizards in M15. Usually the second wouldn't bother me, a few draft traps are quite healthy for most formats, but I'd try to keep away from them in core sets designed for lower experienced players. { Flo00 }Love the flavourful twist on the convoke mechanic with all life unified under Phyrexian rule. However, I do think it's a little under-costed given the above-average number of X/1s in the format on top of its ability to heavily influence defensive combat in your favor. Might be a little fairer at , though it's still a pretty good follow-up to a turn 2 Raise the Alarm. And our winner is ameisenmeister , congratulations.

Jamuraan Invigorator Creature--Human Rebel Shaman , , Sacrifice an untapped land: Until end of turn, if you tap a land for mana, it produces twice that much of that mana instead. 1/2
I’m debating adding a rhystic clause ("unless any player pays "), b/c Prophecy, y’all, & creatures sucked back then, but I don’t wanna metadesign joke my way out of a win.

In Prophecy's Cycles, some of them is inexplicably missing a card or two, so I filled in one of the slots... | Ancient Stampede 1 Generic and a green Enchantment Rare
2: Target creature gets +1/+1 until end of turn. Any player may activate this ability but only any time they could cast a sorcery. FT: You cannot stop a stampede; so, do you best to get out of its way.

I'm aware. If you find me elsewhere on the site, I've used them. But I've been thinking about accessability a lot recently, and the little images in text would be hell on screen readers... I figure that if I'm going to include a render, the text under it should be totally accessable.

Prophecy had a remarkable number of incomplete cycles (three out of eleven horizontal and five out of six vertical cycles) which is always my go-to for Set Theme Game, so had large design room here. This is the rare to Glittering Lynx and Glittering Lion, a special cat warrior of the Hooraree tribe after joining the Efravans and their human allies into battle against Johan, the emperor from Tirras.

Judging time!
Damn this card seriously sucks. In most cases, you'd need at least nine lands to even have this thing net you additional mana at all. However, I understand what you were going for. It's hard to judge these kind of deliberately weak cards tbh but looking at what the set was about – untapped lands matter – this card is a good fit.
Good one. You could give a creature pseudo-vigilance or have your Mecadian Lift get a counter during your turn and put a creature onto the field during your opponent's. Small criticism is that, although it seems weird, this card should probably have been able to untap lands as well. Not only for mana production but also because prophecy had this sweet land enchantment cycle.
Fine card with cool flavortext. The rhystic theme is spot on for the set but having it tacked to a counterspell is kind of a miss for me as you see counterspells with „unless its controller pays...“ in basically every set.
Okay, there's at least one kind of dinosaur on Mercadia, so I'll give the artwork a pass. Mechanically, the card is alright but – as probably intended – nothing to get particularly excited about. The card would have been cooler if it allowed the activation at instant speed or at least „only during that player's turn“. However, it still plays into the theme of the whole Masques block of having no untapped lands.
And another cycle completed. The Hooraree not only brings with it some nice flavor (which I of course had to look up only to be amazed by the depth of story back in the old days of mtg) but also a comprehensible upgrade of the glittering mechanic. Good work!
{And the winner is...} boogymanjunior! With his flavor home run and a fine choice for completing an already cool cycle. Second place for Flo00.
