Pontiff’s Blessing Instant Choose one — • Target creature you control gets +1/+1 until end of turn. • Target creature you don't control gets -1/-1 until end of turn. Entwine (Choose both if you pay the entwine cost.)Overload (You may cast this spell for its overload cost. If you do, change its text by replacing all instances of “target” with “each”.)

So like I said at the beginning, Modern Horizons is both about providing Time Spiral-esque shoutouts and trying to encourage new strategies in Modern (And if not Modern, then making interesting limited draft picks). Let's see how the cards made accomplished this purpose: sdfkjgh - An intersting card that works as both draft fodder and a new toy for Infect to play with. It works well with Infect's existing strategies of spamming pump spells at the cost of Pendelhaven, but I think that is a fair tradeoff considering this provides extra value where Infect normally doesn't get any. Not necessarily eye-opening but definitely thought-provoking enough that Infect players would at least try to brew it for a few weeks, which I think is just fine. Flavor's a bit too blunt, but I suppose I've seen weirder in custom MTG. ameisenmeister - A good way to reintroduce shadow without making it parasitic. I honestly think this card might even get away with being four or three mana if we're talking Modern Horizons, where Death's Shadow and Tarmogoyf are the expected big-beater standards and Serra is utterly forgettable. My only real gripe is that in the era of Doom Whisperer and Massacre Girl, this card looks like it was costed for Standard instead of Modern, and probably could flat out be a Ikoria card if you replaced Shadow with Flying. Overall novel design but it feels like it's for the wrong set/format powerlevel. Flo00 - Now that's a pretty nutty use of mechanics in a way that makes me think of Kaya's Guile. I'm not sure how well this would fit into any Modern archetype but it definitely feels like flexible limited removal and you picked your keywords well. I would believe someone if they had shown me this card without context and told me it was a Modern Horizons card. Boogymanjunior - Bold move picking Culmulative Upkeep, and I like that you managed to find a way to turn the drawback into a powerful effect other players need to interact with as well. It feels appropriately pushed for Modern but I do feel like it has vibes of being a more EDH-y card with the way you chose to work around the drawback inherent to culumtive upkeep. To be clear, this isn't a wrong design choice, to be fair - there are several cards that were clearly designed for EDH in Modern Horizons, some of which had unforseen impacts on Modern, but between that slight feel and the inherent difficulty of trying to make Culmulative Upkeep I think this card struggles to pitch itself as more appealing than its competitors. Interesting how a lot of the submissions were . Now, for the winners: 1st - Flo00 - I think this card is the closest to looking like it came straight out of the set. It might not be an allmighty Modern inspiring star, but it does feel like it carries the Time Spiral spirit while being an interesting draft pick, and that definitely was a valid design choice for many existing lower rarity Modern Horizons cards. 2nd - ameisenmeister / Boogymanjunior / sdfkjgh - Honestly, all the cards were good, it's just that there were small problems and struggles here and there that made one stand above the rest.

Thanks for the win ZephyrPhantom!
Next one is going to be a bit broader. I'd like a card that could have been in any set taking place on Theros.

Repugnant Catoblepas Creature - Beast Deathtouch : Monstrosity 3. (If this creature isn't monstrous, put 3 +1/+1 counters on it and it becomes monstrous.)When ~ becomes monstrous, each other creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn. 3/3 I will take any chance to make more catoblepones.

Heliod's Zealot Creature--Human Warrior Shaman First strike When Heliod’s Zealot enters the battlefield, choose two— • Search your library for an Aura card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library. • Return target enchantment card from your graveyard to your hand. • Reveal an enchantment card from your hand. You may cast that card this turn without paying its mana cost. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- While all of Theros fought against the Mad God, some still blindly clung to their devotion to Him. 2/1

Calix, Priest of Fate Legendary Creature - Human Cleric Whenever you cast an enchantment spell, look at the top three cards of your library. You may reveal an enchantment card from among them and put that card into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. 2/2 "As a farmer would till a field, so must I sow the order of fate."

{Redacted}Nylea's Shelter Instant Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt this turn except by enchanted creatures or enchantment creatures. Nvm, found out Inspire Awe is basically the same card, will work on something else. Always wanted to see the 'Go wide with bestow' strategy have more of a spotlight Theros block:

Fixed. Thank you sir or madam. No problem. But I found another error: fist spell.
Actually, this sir would like to see a fist spell now. Would it be anything like what you'd find in this card game?

Let's see if this gets sneaked in. Pretty obviously depicts (Theros version of) Heracles, who started his twelfe (originally ten) labours as penance for killing his children as he was driven mad by Hera. Sagas might be niche (ten in Theros Beyond Death, 24 in total), but maybe Bitterheart Witch and Curse of Thirst can miltigate this fact with their existence.

Sorry for the delay. I knew I had to judge something yesterday, the thread jsut fell off my radar somehow. {thaneofglamis}That's a good Catoblepas. It also gives you a good count towards your devotion to black. Looking at other Monstrosity cards, Monstrosity 3 usually costs at least 5 mana. And with an efffect like this, I'd say more like 6 or 7 mana.
{sdfkjgh}I see what you did there. Giving the full devotion to turn Heliod into a creature. Works even for all the other white gods, since they already add two devotion themselves. The Zealot gives you a pretty powerful choice of effects. Which justifies the cost. I think the last ability would be more comftable to read if it just said "You may cast an enchantment card from your hand without paying its mana cost." I know it works slightly different, but since they are both sorcery speed, I think it wouldn't make much difference gameplay-wise.
{ZephyrPhantom}I guess this can be pretty strong in the right deck. Since his stats are small, I guess that's ok. I imagine he would be a fun commander.
{SilentKobold}A good Theros-themed anthem. Wouldn't be surprised if anyone told me this was a real card.
{inferno390}There are very few cards checking for your first spell each turn. The red-blue archetype of Theros Beyond Death is about (first) spells in opponent's turns. I guess this plays into that archetype while also working on your turn. Since you have to pay for each token, I guess this is balanced. {gamma3}Simple spell that feels very much like its came out of a Theros set. Good card.
{Boogymanjunior}Usually cards like these only pop up to support some archetype for limited. Yet I really like the card. I guess it would feel a little less odd on Dominaria then Theros.

This was for Hipsters of the Coast's runup to the GDS3, Design Challenge 3, combining Atarka and Silumgar:
Silarka, the Secret-Breaker Legendary Creature--Dragon Flying Whenever Silarka, the Secret-Breaker or another creature you control is turned face up, you may draw a card. If you do, you may have that creature deal damage equal to the number of cards in your hand to another target creature. : Turn target face up creature you control face down. Morph (You may cast this card face down as a 2/2 creature for . Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.) 5/5

Dragon of the Tranquil Vision Creature - Dragon Flying Whenever you cast a noncreature spell, Dragons you control gain hexproof until end of turn. 3/4 Reference to Sage of the Inward Eye. The enlightened Ojutai dragons care more about establishing their superior teachings than silly things like how pretty a lotus is.

References Alpine Grizzly, which flavor text hints at a past in Tarkir's original timeline where Temur and the Alpine grizzly bears bonded together after laboring together under Sultai subjugation, which I imagined to have been in place after the dragons already died out. In the new timeline, I followed that this past Sultai rule never happened, because Atarka and her brood got in ahead. But still, the hunter can't help but feel a certain respectful gravitation towards those mighty animals... nevertheless, Atarka wants her tribute and a full belly. The sad thing is that they will probably kill each other, instead of fighting alongside. But hey, at least they didn't have to suffer Sultai rule this time.

{ inferno390}Pretty clear callback to good ol' Duneblast, though the design has a few key flaws. Firstly, having a wedge colored dragon severely messes with the Fate Reforged wedge to guild transition that mechanically displayed the shift of power from Clans to Broods. Perhaps changing it to some sort of sandstorm elemental as a dual reference to Thousand Winds may have been a bit better flavour-wise, but this still messes with the underlying mechanical themes of the block so I'd probably drop the altogether. Colours aside, all dragons should have flying (the last flightless one was printed all the way back in Portal III), with the stats then adjusted for the cost. { sdfkjgh}While I'm not a huge fan of messing with defined colour identities of factions, I could see a possibility where dragons were designed as enemy guilds mirroring the 'minor archetypes' of Khans (though that's a little too weak of a homage to get bonus points ). Overall I love the concept of the forced morph, while the unmorph trigger certainly helps support those long games that morph decks tend to run into in this format. Being a dragonlord, it almost manages to fill the difficult role of an iconic card in supporting eternal formats, providing a small buff to living end and flicker decks, while not breaking standard. I do see a slight issue with the Ixidron style ability repeating Den Protector and Stratus Dancer triggers so might need a bit of a cost increase. { Flo00}I'm sure we all wanted to see the rhino taken down a peg or two like Zurgo. However, this still suffers from the same issue as Seige Rhino as it's just too big of a body to have that much upside at CMC 4. With a or mana increase, this could find a home in Dragons, potentially facilitating or splashes for exploit purposes. { ZephyrPhantom}This reminds me a lot of Pristine Skywise while simultaneously paying homage to the Sage and a little to Dragonlord Ojutai himself. Balance-wise, repeatable hexproof is a pretty dangerous thing to provide en-masse, especially on a strong evasive body, so I'd probably tweak the ability to affect other dragons only. { Boogymanjunior}While I see the direction you were going with the grizzly, this reminds me far more of Savage Punch. In fact I actually prefer it flavour-wise to the actual counterpart Epic Confrontation. While a little on the weak side, as ferocious can be a pain to set up when you need a removal spell, keeping it at two mana seems appropriate to better facilitate the punch homage without sacrificing too much in the way of balance. {Podium}Winner:Boogymanjunior Runner Up:ZephyrPhantom

The next set is gonna be Dragon's Maze. Do we have to? Dragon's Maze was utter garbage! There's only one good card, and one meme card from it worth remembering, and that's it.
Ok, how about this:
Godawful Set Gatekeepers Creature--Human Designer When ~ enters the battlefield, if you're playing with any cards from Dragon's Maze, choose all-- - I'm so sorry for you.
- Good god, why?
- Punch everyone in the room's junk as hard as you can, starting with your own.

I have the habit of trying to break (or better "use") cards that most people consider unusable. Yet, the card Emmara Tandris showed me my limits. The card is just horrendously bad, especially in comparison with the other guilds' champions. This is my attempt for a better Selesnya legend.
