Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and thirty-ninth challenge! The winner of the "Gods of Yore" poll was myself with...And the challenge issued by me was... Wow, big thanks for the win! While my little Hatchling obviously fits my general motto of „When in doubt, do a common“, I noticed something else as well: This is now the second 1/1 for which can somehow grow I used for these challenges and the second win with this approach – and I've seen other users too doing well with this combination. And even WotC (I know a few unfitting cards were caught in the search, but I'm too lazy to clean them up^^) seems to like it. So for this week's challenge, how about this: Design a creature card of any rarity with base 1/1 stats. Your card needs to cost one generic and one colored mana (it doesn't have to be green, hybrid or similar are allowed as long as the converted mana cost is still 2) and have an ability to increase its power and/or toughness temporarily or permanently.Have fun, everyone! To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post.And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

*Snip* @Evil Coco : "Couldn't find an animator" doesn't work as artist credit. In case of TV shows and films, listing the distributor is the easiest way to go (see also our Art Sourcing Primer), which in your particular case would simply be Warner Bros. Television. ~Daij_Djan

Continuing in the theme of playing more with my set in an effort to truly try and learn from these experiences, I figured that I could test my Hex concept to see if it's workable. Northern Elementalist Creature - Human Wizard Flash When Northern Elementalist blocks a creature, put an ice counter on it. Northern Elementalist gets +0/+X where X is equal to the number of ice counters on Northern Elementalist. 1/1 Art by: Gerry Arthur {Render}

The contest specifies a 1/1. Also, what exactly is the deal with the hex here? And, for that matter, what does she transform into?

Wharf Rat Creature — Human Rogue Skulk (This creature can’t be blocked by creatures with greater power.)Whenever Wharf Rat attacks, choose one — • Wharf Rat gets +2/+0 until end of turn. • Wharf Rat gains lifelink until end of turn. Loitering is a serious crime in Paleborough, as ill intents are often discovered far too late.1/1

The contest specifies a 1/1. Also, what exactly is the deal with the hex here? And, for that matter, what does she transform into? I missed that bit. And the transform bit, the card is a work-in-progress, but I did preface that hex was a new mechanic and I provided all the details necessary to understand it. So if it's still confusing, I'll go a different direction.

No, I get what the mechanic does, I'm just not sure why you're keywording both combat damage triggers and deeptapping.

I honestly can't think of a better time to do this: For XCOM fans out there - yeah, he probably missed a lot of 99% shots.

Updated my entry. I think I'm happy with where it is, but critiques are welcome. Still has "Ayriva, Student of the Elements " as its name on the text version btw. Fwiw I like the concept of the mage getting better and better at making ice fortifications through repeated blocking.

Fwiw I like the concept of the mage getting better and better at making ice fortifications through repeated blocking. The last sentence, "Then, it gets +0/+X where X is equal to the number of ice counters on Northern Elementalist." can be worded better. First give it a linebreak, then have it say something like: "~ has +0/+X, where X is the number of ice counters it." There is no reason for there to be the wording "Then, it gets..." Oh, and I agree with the making better ice fortications through "learning by practice" as being really great flavor, though I doubt your card will get to defend a lot past their first block with only 1 toughness.

I originally had it make the ice counter after the buff, but switched it to the counter being put on before the buff so that, in theory, when she blocks, she could block as 1/2. It's sort of a gimicky way of getting around the 1/1 requirement. However, based on your response I'm wondering if there's a rule I'm forgetting. Edit: Follow-up, with the line break in there, does that make the +0/+X buff permanent? Rather than a temporary buff received when blocking.

Edit: Follow-up, with the line break in there, does that make the +0/+X buff permanent? Rather than a temporary buff received when blocking. Firstly: you are right with it being 1/2 instead of 1/1 on its first block. That is totally my mistake. And the line-break thing. Indeed, it would make it permanent. I only now realize that your wording actually works if you mean that it follows blocking. I got confused thinking that you were trying to have your card have permanent raised toughness. So, in other words, disregard my everything, and my apologies for my poor judgement.

melono: I wouldn't disregard it at all. Regardless of faulty assumptions, I think it's important to see the card from other perspectives to make sure that it's as clear and concrete as it can be. I want the buff to be temporary because, for whatever reason, I feel like it's more in the spirit of the challenge rather than just putting +1/+1 counters on the creature (not that there's anything wrong with that) but it does make the card significantly weaker, which begs the question, would it be unplayable if the buff is just temporary?

I'm sure this is not going to win but... {Spoiler} Symbiotize is a mechanic from a set I'm desinging. The mechanic is inspired in Klyntars from Marvel universe (say Venom), even though the set has nothing to do with Marvel (I'm just a big Venom fan). It lets you attach creatures to other creature as if they were equipment. This is mostly a draft payoff card. Feedback is appreciated. Have a nice day!

mrlozano, I'd add some reminder text to that card if I were you. There's plenty of space i the text box, and I'd like to know how the card works - preferably by reading it on the card.
