Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and thirty-fourth challenge! The winners of the "Grace Under Pressure" poll were Daij_Djan (left) & jrey15 (right) with...And the challenge issued by one of our winners was... Last week I've finally found the time to sit down and start playing with the recent World of Warcraft expension for a little while – so inspired by this, here's this week's challenge: Design a card based around a videogame! Your card may showcase the game as a whole, a character, item or location from it, or be based around videogames in general. Have fun! To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

"Sometimes it really does just take one bad day. But that's good! You can make someone else have an even worse day. And that someone will go on to have an even worser day, and that someone's someone will...well, basically, it becomes a real circus."Modern retool of The Abyss flavored in the style of the Danganronpa games. A recurring theme is the idea of Hope vs Despair, with the latter being presented as an almost omnipresent, corrupting force that 'taints' humanity long after the main villain's actions of the first game. Those that have given into Despair usually end up committing acts of desperate violence and senseless death to fulfill their hedonistic obsession with it.

Jaina, Lost in the Echoes Legendary Planeswalker - Jaina : Tap a target creature, it does not untap during its controller’s next untap step. : Exile target nonland permanent other than Jaina, Lost in the Echoes. Create a token that’s a copy of that permanent under your control. : Shuffle all instants and sorceries from your graveyard into your library. Then draw three cards. Then target player takes an extra turn after this one. Jaina, Lost in the Echoes can be your commander. Art by: Jinhao Yang This is Jaina Proudmoore from the World of Warcraft expansion, as it so happens. This iteration draws inspiration from her time in Thros after being sentenced to death by her mother and her mother's advisor for her "betrayal" of Kul Tiras. When you rescue her from Thros, you go through a host of her memories and feelings of profound guilt. But when you do reach her, she's reminded of her mother's love and is renewed. As a final aside, I actually see Jaina as a , but chose the coloring specifically to match the character's current story arc in Battle for Azeroth.{Render}

I had a couple of ideas for this, but in the end I decided to go with the red, white, and blue war machine that is Liberty Prime from the Fallout series. It's a huge military robot, originally designed by the U.S. army to use in the fight against Chinese communists. Now, the Brotherhood of Steel has repaired and repurposed it to annihilate mutants and raiders alike.
Legendary Artifact Creature - Golem Improvise (Your artifacts can help cast this spell. Each artifact you tap after you’re done activating mana abilities pays for .) Menace, hexproof Whenever Liberty Prime becomes blocked, destroy target creature blocking it. “Embrace democracy, or be eradicated.” 7/7
EDIT: Now has menace instead of trample.

Darksign Enchantment — Aura Enchant creature you control When enchanted creature dies, exile Darksign. If you do, return that creature card to the battlefield. It’s a black Zombie in addition to its other colors and types and has “When this creature deals combat damage to a player, you may return an exiled card named Darksign to the battlefield attached to this creature.” edit: its dark soul

Trinkets Artifact - Equipment Equipped creature gets +2/+2. Whenever equipped creature dies, transform ~. Equip // BaublesArtifact Whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to an opponent, you may sacrifice a creature. If you do, create X colorless Treasure artifact tokens with "Sacrifice this: Add one mana of any color.", where X is the sacrificed creature's toughness.

Say hello to Hawk (also known as Hawke)! He's a mage from the 1996 videogame Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War, but you're not really supposed to get him in a normal playthrough, and he is officially noncanon since Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 came out in 1999 (because the character Hawk can be a substitute for in Genealogy appears in Thracia 776 during every playthrough and plays an important role in that game's story). I used some old official art, and thought this was a good occasion to pair it with an ancient card frame!
If you're wondering about his title, I picked it from this scintillating conversation (one of the few conversations Hawk takes part in, but the character he substitutes doesn't):
Also, an excerpt from some Reddit post written in 2016
...Wait, someone named u/_-Eagle-_ wrote that. ...Did Hawk write this post!?
More on Hawk (though these pages aren't top quality):

I know! How about a card based on Geist! No, wait, Wizards already did that.
Hmm.
Can anyone help with proper templating in order to turn this into a Enchantment--Aura Curse with Enchant player & Flash? The best I can come up with is the VERY inelegant:
Curse of Inversion Enchantment--Aura Curse Enchant player Flash Except for abilities from ~, if a spell, ability, or effect would cause enchanted player to lose life, that player gains that much life instead. Except for abilities from ~, if a spell, ability, or effect would cause enchanted player to gain life, that player loses that much life instead.
EDIT: Thanks to fluffy & Neot for their help!
Curse of Inversion Enchantment--Aura Curse Enchant player other than you Flash If a source other than Curse of Inversion would cause enchanted player to lose life, that player gains that much life instead. If a source other than Curse of Inversion would cause enchanted player to gain life, that player loses that much life instead.

Same game, so same character designer, but different character! My avatar is Johan/Iuchar. He's still a canon character, and unlike Hawk, you see him every playthrough, though it's not canon whether he joins the player or fights against them in the end. He got picked back up after the game ended for spinoffs and such, so you can find more modern official art and even fan art of him. Hawk doesn't have much in the way of either of those, which is why I had to use that old official art. My avatar is Johan/Iuchar's art from the Fire Emblem Cipher card game, and his card is from 2017! As for why I picked it? Sometimes you just want to feel like a badass who enthusiastically carries a pretty flower. Here's the full art for my avatar in all its glory.

Have a little feedback. Hopefully it's going to be useful. {Spoiler} Daij_Djan : On one hand, I doubt this is useful. But then again, that only makes it more accurate. The Microtransaction subtype is a nice touch. Tesagk : Odd ultimate and I am not sure I get the flavour. Also the card feels undercosted overall. Aarhg : The colours on this mesh oddly with the abilities, but the abilities work together in an interesting way and I suppose they're not big bends, so it should be fine. tarvoc : Front side doesn't look too impressive, but I suppose the sword makes for some good blockers. Not personally a fan, but it should be ok. aviijp : This is too strong. First off, silverblade is out of colour. It's basically a deathtouch effect, meaning only or should get it, most likely. Since the ability isn't limited to once per turn, it means it can often kill your opponents' entire board by itself quite easily. On top of that, it can protect itself, which only makes it stronger. Even if the first ability was weaker, a creature granting hexproof to itself isn't , it's or , so the second ability is out of colour. The ability is there if you run out of for the first ability and want to make sure your stuff can never be blocked, I guess. I think this seriously needs to be reworked. gurfafflekins : Nice reference! I like Trinkets. Baubles is kind of weird, so I find it hard to predict how it'd be played, but it seems interesting! I guess you could go on the offensive with high toughness creatures to, let's say, ramp into a 8/8 by attacking with a 1/4. jynx316 : I don't think you can submit multiple entries that aren't a transform or split card, but I would have to ask a mod to be 100% sure. That said, the first two Triforces seem undercosted, especially the one of Power. sade612 : I guess at that mana cost it doesn't really matter that this is a really strong effect, so, it's fine, I think sdfkjgh: This looks too strong when cast on yourself, tbh. Transcendence may be old and not very played, but in comparison your card looks a lot stronger. Neottolemo : Awesome card, nice simplicity, frame indicates you could originally cast two Time Walks thanks to this good boy, which is worth bonus points!

Aarhg : The colours on this mesh oddly with the abilities, but the abilities work together in an interesting way and I suppose they're not big bends, so it should be fine. Thanks for the feedback. I figured improvise would fit well on a red, white, and blue card, since those colors deal the most with artifacts (white and black being somewhat ties for third), and for the other abilities, red brings the trample, blue the hexproof, and white can destroy blocking creatures. I'm more so concerned with the power level, since cost reduction can be difficult to get right.

Neo, I have no idea about the multiple cards thing, but it was too tempting not to. As for the undercosted, I wanted to play up the whole “tri” of triforce, so I made them 3, 6, and 9. Maybe not a good reason, but...

In Path of Exile, Andvarius is an item that significantly increases the rarity and quantity of dropped loot, with one large caveat: your elemental resistances are substantially reduced, increasing damage taken. As a result, Andvarius in the game is one of those "bad" items - hopefully making a slightly less bad card.

Do visual novels count as games for this contest? If so, I'll be submitting something from Fate/Stay Night. (Technically, it should count given that he also appears in a bunch of Fate video games.) EMIYA, Nameless Archer Legendary Creature-- Spirit Warrior Whenever EMIYA, Nameless Archer enters the battlefield or attacks, you may create a token that’s a copy of target Aura or Equipment, except the token isn’t legendary if that permanent is legendary. If you do, you may attach it to a creature you control. , Sacrifice an Aura or Equipment attached to EMIYA: It deals 2 damage to any target. 2/3

Vlad is a hemomancer (blood mage) in League of Legends, known for frustrating amounts of lifegain and the ability to repeatedly poke enemies to force them out of lane. This card is definitely on the pushed side.

Updated my entry by removing trample and giving it menace instead. Menace is a little more red and it works more intuitively with the triggered ability as well.

I'm keen on any suggestions for balance for my submission. Given the complexity of the ultimate, I changed it to -12, but I'm worried that the +2 might be too powerful.
