Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest!
Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and twenty-second challenge!
Use this random word generator to generate 5 random words.
You must use all 5 words in your card, with at least 2 in the ability text.
Note: Of course tell us know the words you've rolled ~Daij_Djan
To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post.
Didactic Warning Instant Sweep - Return any number of Islands you control to their owner's hand. For each Island returned this way, target player sacrifices that many creatures, then creates that many 0/1 green Sheep creature tokens. "Your minds are worn, your souls in chains! Do you dare fathom the depths to which this society has fallen!?"
Majestic Sphinx Creature - Sphinx Flying : Enlighten 1 (: If this creature isn't enlightened, put a +1/+1 counter on it and it becomes enlightened until end of turn.) When Majestic Sphinx becomes enlightened, look at the top five cards of your library. You may reveal an Aura from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order. 4/4 Trained to swing low from the clouds.
Omg, this was difficult. I got majestic, swing, train, rest, enlighten and struggled.
This is a very interesting challenge. My words are: faint, hall, tree, empty, moan. I'll start working on an entry.
Scent of Iron and Gold- Fun! Buying cards to actually gain ownership is a pretty simple idea that adds a lot of possibility. It's good design even if it'd never be printed IRL.
Majestic Sphinx- Interesting ability. I like that it supports auras, and the resemblance to Monstrous is nice.
Chain the Heedless- Nice and simple. Targeted hate card but with general utility.
Tempting Taverness- I like the intended line of play with this card, but I think the wording needs changed. Since this effect is supposed to be a constant thing, you can't really use 'replace', since that's supposed to be used for one-time effects like on Overload or Trait Doctoring. For constant effects you would want to use wording like Notion Thief.
also I got allow, aspiring, introduce, copy & blow
Aspiring Dualcaster Creature — Human Monk Flash When Aspiring Dualcaster enters the battlefield, copy target instant or sorcery spell you control with no targets. “Allow me to introduce you to your new study hall. Try not to blow it up.” —Matriarch of Keral Keep 2/1
kazerima : You realize that's essentially "Target creature loses indestructible until end of turn. Destroy that creature", which is kinda out of color for , right?
It's intended as a twist on Terminate, except instead of outright destroying a creature it destroys it using the game rules. Power/Toughness reversal is a Red mechanic the last time I checked, and this was meant to work in the same design space. Thinking more on this, it also seems especially Red of a mechanic since Indestructible is a hallmark mechanic of Artifacts (particularly Darksteel), and Red is the color that focuses most heavily on artifact and artifact creature removal, as well as hard removal in general. Also, the color most immune to this effect with a focus on +1/+1 counters is Green, the color allied with both Red and White.
My words were obey, second-hand, rate, treatment, and drill.
I'll try to come up with something and edit this comment later.
Threatening Treatment Artifact When Threatening Treatment enters the battlefield, put a drill counter on target creature. , : Target creature with a drill counter on it obeys you this turn. (You choose if that creature attacks or blocks and how it does so.) Even at second-hand rates, trinkets and baubles can fetch surprisingly good returns when the customer is manipulated properly.
