Hi everyone, I have a wording question I can't find an answer to. Usually, cards refer to themselves with [CARDNAME], but sometimes it can just say "this card/creature". But I don't understand what the rules are for when to use which reference.
E.g. Ajani's Last Stand use both versions on the same card:
"Whenever a creature or planeswalker you control dies, you may sacrifice Ajani’s Last Stand. If you do, create a 4/4 white Avatar creature token with flying.
When a spell or ability an opponent controls causes you to discard this card, if you control a Plains, create a 4/4 white Avatar creature token with flying."
Personally, I would prefer to just use "this card/creature" as often as possible, but [CARDNAME] is a lot more common, so I would love some insight into the rules and reasons behind it if anyone knows.
