Sorceries don't deal combat damage so Extirpate would need to be worded differently to work as intended.
Assuming you do that, the card itself probably isn't broken but the mechanic probably lead to the same unfun problem large amounts of Annihilator does which is forcing players to sacrifice a large number of permanents and then spend the remaining turns not really being able to fight back.
