In the vein of all of this, am I blind or is making a custom subtype just a free thing I can do? I combed the perks/achievements and didn't see anything for subtypes explicitly, just type and super type. If I just missed it, I have already done it on a current character so will just refund Twin-Souled (since it is currently unneeded for Sieges and I have not used it any way). Otherwise we're chilling. think it's flavor-only things like Cartouche or a creature type is free but mechanical things like Saga is a keyword buy

I imagine since it does alter the way every battle we know works (no exile then come back transformed) probably worth the skill point?

think it's flavor-only things like Cartouche or a creature type is free but mechanical things like Saga is a keyword buy So I suppose the question is, what's the consensus opinion on a Skirmish (It's a Siege except it doesn't flip). I imagine since it does alter the way every battle we know works (no exile then come back transformed) probably worth the skill point? So here are the relevant comprehensive rules: I had to check because I was wondering if everything defined by Skirmish is covered by default Battles rule, but unfortunately assignment of the protector is modified by the subtype. Default typeless Battles assign the controller as their protector*. So Skirmish would need a skill point; since you haven't made a lot of cards with it so far, this isn't a big deal, just buy it when you're next able. You can still make Battles with no subtype or Siege in the meantime. *I will still allow Siege as a freebie because we have no canon non-Siege Battles, so there is technically no clear idea on how non-Siege battles should be treated. If WOTC ever prints a subtypeless Battle, the rule can be adjusted then.

Does Open The Vault require you to be able to make the gift?

Does Open The Vault require you to be able to make the gift? Yes, Open The Vault checks rules for Gifting. That said, the card doesn't need to be Legendary despite what the original wording implies - I'll patch that.
