The challenge is to design a 60-card deck themed around a legendary permanent (which can be anything you want, for example: your self-insert, your OC, an actual character or thing from the MTG universe or from any another fandom) with the following rules: • 15-24 basic lands.
• 1 mythic rare legendary permanent. Try to keep the theme of the deck coherent to this card's flavor (e.g. If it's a necromancer, fill it with zombies and evil spirits). • To standardize the rarity: 6 rares, 18 uncommons and the rest all commons.
• Aside from basic lands, you can insert at most 6 strict reprints of real cards in it (sideboard included) , all the remaining cards must be custom designs. If you do use strict reprints, consider making a new render for them with different art and new flavor text. If you'd like, you can also make new renders for the basic lands, just to use new artwork you like. Functional reprints instead have no limits, but they must still be custom designs.
• It's not necessary to make renders, text-only is fine as well.
• Optionally, you can also design a 15-card sideboard for your deck. If you do, its rarity quotas are 2 rares, 6 uncommons and the rest all commons.
I'll also add a challenge variant based on the old preconstructed decks: You can set your deck's rarities to 1 mythic rare, 2 rares, 13 uncommons and 44 commons instead.
When you're finished, post your decklist! Freely comment the designs in this thread. Have fun!
Daij_Djan That's right, no deadlines; this thread is just a showcase. No rules against two, three or four-offs. About non-basic lands, I don't mind at all; the first rule doesn't preclude including non-basic lands; I've reduced the minimum amount of basic lands to 15 in case one wants to use include more non-basic lands. I've also added an optional sideboard design and clarified the strict/functional reprint rule. Also, the Duel Deck challenge you linked is really cool. I'd love to play it if it comes up again.

Considering I've participated in every Duel Deck contest (aside from the one I ran myself, obviously ) in the past, I just have to participate this time as well. Three questions: - If I'm not mistaken, there is no deadline, right?
- Do you have any rules against (nonbasic) two/three-offs? (I know they should only be used very carefully in these types of decks.)
- As much as I'm all for basing these decks on basics, I think having a few nonbasic lands in there would be fine as well (especially since I'd probably want to use an uncommon land reprint assuming I'll be going with my first inspiration for a theme).. So, given I keep your suggested rarity ratio, would you mind much?

Since it's been a month, time for a small update: Yeah, I'm doing a deck for this one Might take a while due to limited time, me generally being a bit slow with designing larger groups of cards - also I have more trouble than expected finding art for the chosen theme

So, teeny tiny update, I think I’ve finally got an idea for that planeswalker now.
That’s all.

Idea I mostly left this project in the backlog as well. It's just like what fluffydeathbringer said in the miscellaneous thread, designing an entire deck requires a lot more effort and attention than making a single card.

Think the toughest part for me would be the rendering - all that time scrutinizing a card and looking for art and FT adds up. Might take a shot at a text-only version.
Tbh I think it'd be interesting to extend the 'self' card to legendary permanents in general as well and/or legendaries that are not self-inserts but just OCs people are proud of.

Rabbits Have the first draft of the planeswalker around which I'll be building it: Laga, Keeper of the Burrow Legendary Planeswalker - Laga : Create two 1/1 white Rabbit creature tokens. : Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control. Those creatures gain trample until end of turn. : You get an emblem with "At the beginning of your upkeep, create two 1/1 white Rabbit creature tokens, then put a +1/+1 counter on all creatures you control." Great. I think that's something I can do a lot easier as it's a lot easier for me to quickly write a bunch of cards up. I think I'm going to go with a slightly more blog-style approach as I think that'll keep me a bit more involved and get me to the finish line. I've got a few possible concepts going on right now, though likely I'll end up picking one and tabling the others: {Some brainstorming here - 3 ideas} The Masked Electromancer - A more direct self-insert PW, that traveled back in time and sparked in his quest to avoid dying in poor health on a plane that was slowly losing all its mana in the future. Possible Themes - paying life, ability keyword that triggers if life was lost this turn , creating "Widgets" (artifacts tokens that sacrifice themselves to do something - if i remember right, I tried Widgets that tapped creatures and/or Widgets that pinged creatures.) Mellie, Whimsicial Erszatz - A legendary creature - Elemental? Weird? Not sure of typing yet. I wanted to make a character that would work for a deck based around WoTC's take on purple. I think especially with how times have changed and technology has influenced so much (including the level of technology "acceptable" to be seen in Magic) there is more ground for City and Purple being a distinct color in terms of flavor than before. (Note: Cities would be like Wastes and not have a basic land typing.) Basically, I'm not sure if Mellie is a tech nerd, an artist, or somewhere in between. Possible Themes: Exile, uneven P/Ts, Time Counters, step manipulation, extremely efficient but narrow counterspells/boardwipes/removal? Since there's a limited amount of material to work with for Purple this is me trying to extrapolate from what we did get. What If: Urabrask Gained a Planeswalker Spark? - Inspired by this fanart and totally not me being salty over Urabrask dying to Dismember. Pretty straightforward idea, Urabrask sparks/gets a spark (be it Karn or Venser's or by some BS) in his quest to achieve The Great Work and slowly becomes less and less Phyrexian. Possible Themes: Host/Augment or Mutate (Obsession with endlessly changing the self), 'forging' - darksteel tokens of some kind? Maybe a polymorph deck that cheats out big oldschool phyrexian-style fatties? (Might require Urabrask to either be an artifact PW or a polymorph effect PW)
Actually, as I was typing that out, I think I settled on the third idea ("What If: Urabrask Gained a Planeswalker Spark?") because it's easy to focus on and make something cohesive for (as opposed to the more flexible ideas the other two were - not that I'm against them, but I also haven't made anything resembling a set in a while.), so I'll take a shot at that. "What If: Urabrask Gained a Planeswalker Spark?"As Urabrask took his dying breaths on the plane of New Phyrexia, his thoughts turned to the frustration that he had never had the chance to pursue The Great Work of his own accord - Norn had overrun the Furnace long before he had even actively cooperated with those seeking to overthrow her rule. His rage and desire to see this vision raced through his body as New Phyrexia began to phase out of reality - and suddenly, Urabrask found himself in a different place and time, with slowly regrowing limbs of flesh and ore pulling themselves together from the leyline he had planeswalked to. It was then that he decided that he had enough of evangelizing the virtues of the Great Work to others to choose - he would seek it out for himself first.
Urabrask's travels since then have taken him to the far northern reaches of Dominaria, where long-dormant war machines await a new master...Themes:- "Shows up with a different strategy every time" - This doesn't show up in this deck directly, but Urabrask will generally adapt different somewhat different mechanics related to the theme of "change" each time he shows up to reflect that he's constantly augmenting himself with flesh/metal bits and parts from other planes. Mutate, Meld, Vehicles, etc... are possible candidates here. The theme for this deck specifcally is: - Polymorphing - see Madcap Experiment, Indomitable Creativity. For this deck I would like to focus on cheating out artifact creatures, to reflect Urabrask's unearthing of oldschool Phyrexian war machines. - "Oldschool" Phyrexians - Features chunkier artifact creatures that are designed like older creatures would be - more along the lines of Phyrexian Colossus, Phyrexian Devourer, Phyrexian Snowcrusher than say, Blightsteel Colossus. This serves multiple purposes - one, it lets us control the deck's powerlevel by not making every big stompy thing an instawin, two, it lets use use weird janky callback mechanics, three, it means we can make a bunch of big stompy designs without them all clogging up our rare/uncommon slots (rare will likely be needed for polymorph effects.), four, it lets Urabrask be as sarcastic as dev commentary has claimed he could be and let us do a little meta commentary on how creatures have become stronger over time. Originally I was going to make these Snow Phyrexians but as I started to develop the deck it became this. - Artifact cards in graveyard? - Seems to be a developing subtheme. - Artifact cards in exile? - Seems to be a developing subtheme. - Treasure ramp? - Seems to be a developing subtheme, given the excavation of old machines vibes. Starting list: Cards are 1x unless otherwise noted. We introduce Urabrask, his general strategy, and an fun little 3-card infinite combo to excite any new players that discover it. 20 MountainUrabrask, Fevrent Excavator Planeswalker - Urabrask When ~ enters the battlefield, exile the top three cards of your library. Whenever you exile one or more artifact or land cards from your library, you may create a Treasure token. : You may sacrifice an artifact. If you do, put a loyalty counter on Urabrask and exile the top three cards of your library. : You may sacrifice an artifact. If you do, exile cards from the top of your library until you reveal an artifact card. Put that card onto the battlefield. Wanted to avoid making him a straight up copycat of OG Lukka and settled on this sort of more 'excavation-focused' design. He digs for materials (treasures) to fuel his constructions, while ideally working towards forging his ideal construct. 2x Forgeling's Call Sorcery Create two 1/1 colorless Phyrexian Myr artifact creature tokens. Every task starts with the smallest grunt. Some token making to smooth things along. Originally at 4x but I reduced it as I started playing with other designs a bit more. Unstable Warbeast Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct Cumulative upkeep - Discard a card from your hand. (At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.)When ~ dies, you may have it deal 8 damage to target creature, planeswalker, or battle. 8/8 "I suppose the Etchings were not entirely wrong about our predecessor's 'obsolete craftmanship'." - UrabraskCompare Universal Solvent. Phyrexian Devourer Artifact Creature — Phyrexian Construct When Phyrexian Devourer’s power is 7 or greater, sacrifice it. Exile the top card of your library: Put X +1/+1 counters on Phyrexian Devourer, where X is the exiled card’s mana value. 1/1 Easy jank reprint that goes well with the exiling-cards theme. I might swap this out for a 'scaled up' version that references the dreadnought and 12 power instead though, since random high cost cards seem to be common in this deck. (maybe some kind of damage-scaling card based on exiled top of card deck's cmc?) Biskelion Artifact Creature - Construct Biskelion enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it. Remove a +1/+1 counter from Biskelion: It deals 1 damage to any nonplayer target. 1/1 I imagine in the year 2033 we'll be getting yet another permanent that can take damage, so instead of saying "creature, planeswalker, or battle" I've gone with this wording instead. I do have some intention to give this deck a bit of bite, which is why I opted to limit the targets instead of using Monoskelion's 1 mana ability cost. Echo of the Furnace Creature - Elemental As long as Echo of the Furnace is on the battlefield, it has all activated abilities of all artifact cards you own in exile. 4/3 "In the whispers of smoke and fumes, I remember my first dream." - UrabraskColorshifted Necrotic Ooze, with the idea being to reference the combo between Necrotic Ooze + Triskelion + Phyrexian Devourer. You have to jump through some hoops for this one though and it won't let you instantly nuke a player. 4x Improvised Blast Instant Kicker - Sacrifice two untapped artifacts you control. ~ deals 2 damage to any target. If ~ was kicked, it instead deals 4 damage to any target. "Some relics have better uses than being worshiped idly in fleshling 'museums'." - UrabraskOriginally this was going to work with just Treasures but I decided it would be better this way as there are also possible Myr tokens (and Urabrask/you might just decide one of your big excavations wasn't worth keeping around). Serves as the main removal of the deck or surprise burn to close out the game. These are probably staying at 4x for consistency's sake - each 2021 PW deck had one 4-of card, so I think this is okay.2x Relentless Excavation Instant As an additional cost to cast this spell, discard a card and exile the top two cards of your library. Draw two cards. Seemingly worse Thrill of Possibility until you remember what this deck likes to do. Magmatic Sinkhole Instant Delve (Each card you exile from your graveyard while casting this spell pays for .)Magmatic Sinkhole deals 5 damage to target creature or planeswalker. "Occasionally, I am reminded of why there was so much excess slag in the furnace." - UrabraskMagmatic Torrents Sorcery Delve (Each card you exile from your graveyard while casting this spell pays for .)Choose two target nonland permanents you don't control. Destroy one at random. "Do not dig directly downwards." - UrabraskSlight bend to let the deck have at least some vague hope of hitting enchantments it might not have been ready for. Magmatic Reshaping Sorcery Delve (Each card you exile from your graveyard while casting this spell pays for .)The controller of target artifact sacrifices it, then reveals cards from the top of their library until they reveal an artifact card. That player puts that card onto the battlefield, then shuffles all other cards revealed this way into their library. “It’s a vision that requires work. Discarded debris must be shaped into a singular entity.” — UrabraskReferences Rusted Slasher. Realized this was turning into a horizontal cycle so decided eh, why not. I want to try and have the most variance in the Polymorph effects while giving enough of them for the deck to bring out big guys in different ways. 4x Mining TunnelLand ~ enters the battlefield tapped. When ~ enters the battlefield, surveil 1. : Add . Zhalfirin Void but its slower and surveils. Smooths out draws and fuels graveyard for the few delve cards we do have. Lands - 20 Mythics - 1/1 Rares - 2/6 Uncommons - 3/18 Commons - 14/15 Total: 40/60 Reprints - 3/6 Overall thoughts so far - One of the nice things about a deck vs a set is that you're less bound to slot-filling and can more naturally adjust the deck as things go forward. I feel like a lot of ideas start coming naturally as you start seeing where the deck goes. Definitely a bit of graveyard-artifacts and exile stuff at odds here...but this is a theme deck, so I don't see why not have multiple strats. Planeswalker decks have more 2-ofs and 3-ofs and even 4-ofs than I remembered. I think for the sake of making this deck interesting I'll try to have a bunch of 1-of artifact wincons but I'll probably take advantage of the ability to include multiples for cards I think would be useful staples because I still want the deck to run smoothly on some level. I'd like to make an uncommon Polymorph creature at some point. With 20 cards left we're actually looking at roughly 4/7/10 distinct cards left if we're following Planeswalker deck willingness to run multiples of things. I think the distribution will look like 5 more "oldschool phyrexians" (one of them rare, preferrably as many as possible featuring old keywords - phasing, shadow, maybe a 1-turn shroud etb, etc...?), which leaves room for for about 4/5/8 distinct designs to fill the remaining 15 slots. So I'd expect three updates looking something like: I - Oldschool Phyrexians II - Remaining Polymorph and support cards III - Tweaking deck numbers and balance

Love me the variety of ideas we got already. Your love for the Nissa / Chandra ship has also got me wondering if your headcannon this one would perhaps be their daughter, adopted or magic-ed in some way. She does seem to fit the theme as "daughter of the forest" and named "Ember" (though that is more likely due to username than anything). I like her unusual means of getting loyalty counters, and the mix of Nissa-esque abilities ( Static from Nissa of Shadowed Boughts, plant summoning from Voice of Zendikar, and animating lands shows up on several, with Garruk's overrun ultimate.

| Mental is a planeswalker from an as-of-yet-unnamed plane, a biomancer and metamancer whose specialty lies in extracting characteristics from bodies (usually dead bodies) and creating homunculi with bodies created specifically to host those characteristics. A flamekin's flaming body onto an ooze-like homunculi for a slimey, flaming creature that spreads a trail of flames wherever it goes. A perfectly crafted humanoid with many physical advantages from different races.
The most notable thing they became able to answer after their spark granted them this transference of characteristics, was the ability to transfer mind and soul between bodies. They do not themselves possess the innate ability to alter the mind or soul, but they can move a mind or soul from one body to another. In many planes, they crafted many different bodies for themselves, each one acting as a phylactery of sorts that their soul returns to on the current' host's death. | | As a self-insert theme deck, there are a lot of things I'm trying to capture with this. My own tastes for one, in gameplay style and flavor. The way I usually play and favored or most common approach. The way I design cards too, and my mindset as I do so. The flavor and mechanics of that self-insert planeswalker. My colors.
The overall result is that this is going to be a greedy deck of perhaps inefficient, value-driven cards, using early ramp and defensive creatures to hopefully survive until then. It's going to try to combine one of my favorite strategies - stealing cards, by controlling them or casting them myself - and my attempts to always push things out of the box (for better or for worse) by trying to repurpose and modify what I steal, as if saying "I'll take that and do it my way". To unify these themes, I figured the best would be for those high-value cards to be mostly the same cards that do the stealing. And while I'm at it, a good chunk of them would be legendary to help get to Menteal's wincon. | | I decided to try to introduce a new mechanic here, called Integrate. Due to space issues I avoided putting it on Menteal (they are a mythic anyway), but it will be explained on plenty of cards that use it:
Integrate: If you cast this spell for its integrate cost, put it over or under target permanent you own that shares a card type with it. They integrate into the permanent on top plus all abilities from under it. If a creature was integrated, a creature must be on top.
Essentially, it's mutate that works for enchantments and artifacts as well. Lands too I suppose, but I'm not thinking of putting it on any lands. It uses the mutate template.

Update I- Oldschool Phyrexians + Update II.1 - Polymorph, Ramp, and Removal Support?I'm looking for feedback on a few of these cards, specifically Congealed Crusher. Replacing Phyrexian Devourer with Dreadnought DevourerArtifact Creature — Phyrexian Construct When ~’s power is 12 or greater, sacrifice it. Exile the top card of your library: Put X +1/+1 counters on ~, where X is the exiled card’s mana value. 1/1 This serves two purposes: one, to flip Phyrexian Dreadnought on its head, and two, to make this work in a deck with other large phyrexian creatures without blowing itself up half the time. 'New' Phyrexians: Congealed Crusher Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct ~ has shroud except during combat. Trample 9/9 "Reminiscent of a design Vorinclex would've scoffed at." - UrabraskEDIT: Changed from "~ has shroud if it entered the battlefield this turn." to current wording. Thanks moweda. I feel like there is a more interesting way to do this...I wanted some kind of conditional shroud to make it less annoying to interact with but I'm also struggling to think of something clever to do with the idea. Open to feedback here if anyone's itnerested in giving it. Spliced Avenger Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct : Target creature loses flying, first strike, trample, or shadow until end of turn. : ~ gets +1/-1 and gains flying, first strike, trample, or shadow until end of turn. 0/10 Flowstone Thopter + Phyrexian Splicer + Urza's Avenger. I'm a lot happier with this design in that it feels pretty oldschool and the end result is its own thing while being a decent callback mashup. Plated Assembler Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct When ~ enters the battlefield, exile the top eleven cards of your library. You may manifest any number of artifact cards exiled this way. : , Discard ~ : Exile cards from the top of your library until you reveal an artifact card. Manifest that card and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. 7/6 "What appears to be a series of 'masks' is instead a series of highly advanced cloaking-assembly devices..." - UrabraskI'm thinking there's a phyrexian for 8-9-10-11-12. One of these should be able to double as a channeler and one of these should be able to be cast in a cheaper mode - this ended up both being put on the same card. Faithless Cauterizing Sorcery Create two Blood tokens. (They're artifacts with “, , Discard a card, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.”)Flashback "We toiled for The Great Work in thousands of myriad protocols, and yet history will only remember it by my broken body." - UrabraskGives some variance to the looting and token aspects instead of just adding another Forgeling's Call or Relentless Excavation. Also made some FT for Urabrask to grouch about he's the only remaining functional Red Phyrexian (because presumably the rest were affected by the magic wi-fi shutdown of MoM still.) 2x Reclamation of the Arctic Vaults Battle - Siege (As a Siege enters, choose an opponent to protect it. You and others can attack it. When it’s defeated, exile it, then cast it transformed.), Discard a card: ~ deals 2 damage to any target. ///////////// Gnashing Frostcrusher Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Juggernaut Gnashing Frostcrusher attacks each combat if able. Gnashing Frostcrusher can’t be blocked by Walls. 5/3 Inspiration: Bombardment but as a battle. High defense to make it hard to easily flip, but Unstable Warbeast or a well placed Improvised Blast will make short work of it. It was a bit tough to think of how to put a Battle in a deck like this but I think letting the battle be able to kill itself is a good bet and lets us sneak more large Phyrexians in. End result was closer to Molten Vortex. x4 ? Urabrask's Charm Instant Choose one - - Create a Treasure token. - Add . ~ deals 4 damage to you. - Add . Spend this mana only to cast artifact spells. This deck feels like it needs a lot more cheap stuff both to ramp and to Polymorph. I was tempted to put 4x Strike it Rich in given the lack of Treasures so far but I think this is a (hopefully) more creative solution. You'll get your mana, but you have to pay some kind of price for it - fortunately for Urabrask, all three of these choices favor him. Reforge the Forgotten Sorcery Choose one - - Return target artifact card from your graveyard to the battlefield. - Incubate X, where X is the number of artifact cards in exile. My attempt to try and tie the exile/discard cards together. I was originally planning to have it manifest from exile but that just seemed too far out - taking advantage of Incubate to make yet another artifact token for Polymorphing seemed more appropriate. Lands - 20 Mythics - 1/1 Rares - 6/6 Uncommons - 9/18 Commons - 15/15 Total: 51/60 Reprints - 2/6 Some more thoughts: Uncommons are hard to design for a deck for me, since there's no real need to make build-arounds for draft archetypes. This deck is really starved for Polymorph slots since that's an effect typically reserved for . I might have to move the Battles to the sideboard.... Definitely wish I had more time to flesh out and revise these ideas - some of them are more slapdash than I'd like. But I suppose that's what step III will be for.

For Congealed Crusher, how about something like "~ has shroud except during combat"?

ZephyrPhantom I may try to give feedback on your cards later, but... Just note there's no deadline on this particular thing. So you have all the time in the world XD That's fair, I just usually only get moments to develop stuff like this in short bursts of time. ^^; I also think lack of investment/talking openly about a set is a big motivation killer for me with a bigger project like this which is why I figure regular sdjdfklfgjldf style posts will help it a bit. It'll be very rough in spots but I'd rather a finished deck than an unfinished one. For Congealed Crusher, how about something like "~ has shroud except during combat"? Yeah I think that works well enough. I was worried something similar to "shroud except when attacking" but I guess I was worried that made it too immune to removal...then again, it is 9 mana. That said, just giving it shroud for one turn made it feel like a really generic modern-style beater and I think making it turn off during any combat widens the window of things that can hit it decently enough e.g. Intrepid Hero, Master Decoy while keeping the oldschool gimmicky feel. I'll change it to that.

ZephyrPhantom{Feedback}
Dreadnaught Devourer- Probably very weak for a creature as expensive as some Eldrazi. I do think I get the idea behind it, and I understand you're kind of purposefully making these designs a bit weaker, but still it could probably use some refining so card can at least somewhat keep up if you attempt to cast it normally.
Congealed Crusher- Name made me think of a snow creature. Might have been interesting to have a snow theme in your excavations from Urabrask, but that's just a random, possibly ill-advised thought (and upon re-reading your themes I realized you were initially going for this. Maybe it wouldn't be as bad of a thought after all...). The card is neat especially since it's shroud and not hexproof.
Spliced Avenger- Not quite sure what the Thopter is doing in that mix (flavor-wise) but this seems like a neat modular card. I would probably reduce costs and initial toughness though, as otherwise you may be paying a ton each turn just to get this card's power to a worthwhile number and this again doesn't really seem to match the scale of so much mana value.
Plated Assembler- I love the inclusion of this card in a deck like that. It's a really cool approach to turn these many artifacts into creatures and maybe later flip them over.
Faithless Cauterizing- Blood tokens feel a bit out of place here. I guess it fits red better than a clue would, and maybe you don't want to turn this into a ritual with treasure tokens, but even so a singular instance of blood tokens feels odd. Other than that, no complaints.
Reclamation of the Arctic Vaults- As this is a battle I won't comment much on it, only than saying oh another card that would have made this make sense as a snow-incorporating deck.
Urabrask's Charm- Seems balanced enough for a would-be ritual.
Reforge the Forgotten- No real comments here, the card seems good though I think it would need playtesting.

Just working on a deck mainly designed by ChatGPT with nudges from me to make the cards playable and non OP. As for the reprint rule: If I include, say two copies of Salvager of Secrets does that count as 1 reprint or as 2?

I got a "reminder like" on this a few months ago by pernicious, and truth be told, I haven't forgotten this. I've just been creatively blocked over how to finish it. Going back over Idea's feedback made me think that, especially as creatures are even more value oriented now, bigger creatures do need to have something going for them. I want to retain the 8-9-10-11-12 cost scheme I had in mind when originally making the deck, so instead I opted to modify the cards a bit to give them a fighting chance in today's value-oriented environment. Changed/New cards: First, the new "buffed" Dreadnought Devourer: Dreadnought DevourerArtifact Creature — Phyrexian Construct When ~’s power is 36 or greater, sacrifice it, then you may deal 36 damage to any target opponent. Exile the top card of your library: Put X +1/+1 counters on ~, where X is the exiled card’s mana value. 12/12 "Too all consuming for its own good. A message Phyrexian history ignores far too often." - UrabraskNow has a statline comparable to Titanoth Rex and some big Timmy numbers to go along with it. I didn't want to just make it a trampler so I decided to focus on giving it some upside. Spliced Avenger Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct : Target creature loses flying, first strike, trample, or shadow until end of turn. : ~ gets +1/-1 and gains flying, first strike, trample, or shadow until end of turn. 10/10 Simple change with similar logic, I simply gave it a statline more in line with modern balancing. 4x Devouring Forgeling : Creature — Phyrexian Construct When ~’s power is 5 or greater, sacrifice it. , , Mill the top card of your library: Put a +1/+1 counter on ~ if the exiled card was an artifact card or had mana value greater than 6. 1/1 This is an offshoot of the Dreadnought Devourer design that I created to give the deck some more early game legs while not entirely invalidating its original gameplan. I had to do a bit of reworking to ensure it wouldn't get in the way of polymorphs. 2x Aetherslag Sorcery ~ costs less for each artifact card you own in the graveyard or in exile. ~ deals X damage to target creature, planeswalker, or battle. Crackling-Drake-adjacent design with a touch of affinity. More compatible with this deck than the above card but I would expect it to get replaced. 3x Furnace Eruption Enchantment Destroy target land. Its controller creates a Treasure. If the destroyed land was an artifact you owned, create three Treasures instead. Draw a card. Started life as a strictly worse Blood Moon that I wasn't sure really fit the slot, turned into a variation on Cleansing Wildfire that I think better suits the decks needs while giving it a chance to fight stronger decks using lots of duals or Tron, should this deck ever ended up played somehow. 4x Ruined ForgeLand ~ enters the battlefield tapped. Add . , Sacrifice ~: Create a Treasure. Ups the artifact count without being an artifact itself. Lands - 20 Mythics - 1/1 Rares - 6/6 Uncommons - 18/18 Commons - 15/15 Total: 60/60 Reprints - 2/6 Final decklist: Lands (24) 16 Mountain4x Mining TunnelLand ~ enters the battlefield tapped. When ~ enters the battlefield, surveil 1. : Add . Zhalfirin Void but its slower and surveils. Smooths out draws and fuels graveyard for the few delve cards we do have. 4x Ruined ForgeLand ~ enters the battlefield tapped. Add . , Sacrifice ~: Create a Treasure. Planeswalker (1) Urabrask, Fevrent Excavator Planeswalker - Urabrask When ~ enters the battlefield, exile the top three cards of your library. Creatures (11) 4x Devouring Forgeling : Creature — Phyrexian Construct When ~’s power is 5 or greater, sacrifice it. , , Mill the top card of your library: Put a +1/+1 counter on ~ if the exiled card was an artifact card or had mana value greater than 6. 1/1 Biskelion Artifact Creature - Construct Biskelion enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it. Remove a +1/+1 counter from Biskelion: It deals 1 damage to any nonplayer target. 1/1 Echo of the Furnace Creature - Elemental As long as Echo of the Furnace is on the battlefield, it has all activated abilities of all artifact cards you own in exile. 4/3 "In the whispers of smoke and fumes, I remember my first dream." - UrabraskUnstable Warbeast Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct Cumulative upkeep - Discard a card from your hand. (At the beginning of your upkeep, put an age counter on this permanent, then sacrifice it unless you pay its upkeep cost for each age counter on it.)When ~ dies, you may have it deal 8 damage to target creature, planeswalker, or battle. 8/8 "I suppose the Etchings were not entirely wrong about our predecessor's 'obsolete craftmanship'." - UrabraskCongealed Crusher Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct ~ has shroud except during combat. Trample 9/9 "Reminiscent of a design Vorinclex would've scoffed at." - UrabraskSpliced Avenger Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct : Target creature loses flying, first strike, trample, or shadow until end of turn. : ~ gets +1/-1 and gains flying, first strike, trample, or shadow until end of turn. 10/10 Plated Assembler Artifact Creature - Phyrexian Construct When ~ enters the battlefield, exile the top eleven cards of your library. You may manifest any number of artifact cards exiled this way. : , Discard ~ : Exile cards from the top of your library until you reveal an artifact card. Manifest that card and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order. 7/6 "What appears to be a series of 'masks' is instead a series of highly advanced cloaking-assembly devices..." - UrabraskDreadnought DevourerArtifact Creature — Phyrexian Construct When ~’s power is 36 or greater, sacrifice it, then you may deal 36 damage to any target opponent. Exile the top card of your library: Put X +1/+1 counters on ~, where X is the exiled card’s mana value. 12/12 "Too all consuming for its own good. A message Phyrexian history ignores far too often." - UrabraskNoncreatures (24) 2x Relentless Excavation Instant As an additional cost to cast this spell, discard a card and exile the top two cards of your library. Draw two cards. 2x Forgeling's Call Sorcery Create two 1/1 colorless Phyrexian Myr artifact creature tokens. Every task starts with the smallest grunt.4x Improvised Blast Instant Kicker - Sacrifice two untapped artifacts you control. ~ deals 2 damage to any target. If ~ was kicked, it instead deals 4 damage to any target. "Some relics have better uses than being worshiped idly in fleshling 'museums'." - UrabraskMagmatic Sinkhole Instant Delve (Each card you exile from your graveyard while casting this spell pays for .)Magmatic Sinkhole deals 5 damage to target creature or planeswalker. "Do not dig directly downwards." - UrabraskMagmatic Reshaping Sorcery Delve (Each card you exile from your graveyard while casting this spell pays for .)The controller of target artifact sacrifices it, then reveals cards from the top of their library until they reveal an artifact card. That player puts that card onto the battlefield, then shuffles all other cards revealed this way into their library. “It’s a vision that requires work. Discarded debris must be shaped into a singular entity.” — UrabraskFaithless Cauterizing Sorcery Create two Blood tokens. (They're artifacts with “, , Discard a card, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.”)Flashback "We toiled for The Great Work in thousands of myriad protocols, and yet history will only remember it by my broken body." - Urabrask2x Reclamation of the Arctic Vaults Battle - Siege (As a Siege enters, choose an opponent to protect it. 5/3 x4 Urabrask's Charm Instant Choose one - - Create a Treasure token. - Add . ~ deals 4 damage to you. - Add . Spend this mana only to cast artifact spells. Reforge the Forgotten Sorcery Choose one - - Return target artifact card from your graveyard to the battlefield. - Incubate X, where X is the number of artifact cards in exile. 2x Aetherslag Sorcery ~ costs less for each artifact card you own in the graveyard or in exile. ~ deals X damage to target creature, planeswalker, or battle. 3x Furnace Eruption Enchantment Destroy target land. Its controller creates a Treasure. If the destroyed land was an artifact you owned, create three Treasures instead. Draw a card. Final thoughts: Interesting exercise but I think I enjoyed the process of making various one-offs that still worked towards a consistent theme less exciting as time went on, which probably also explains why I mentally checked out on trying to finish this about a year ago.
