So, I think I solved for Wizard Class, and possibly even Wizard Class.
Yeah, I know that statement makes little to no sense on the face of it, but bear with me. It's 2:28a as I'm writing this, I only slept through the night for the first time in about a week (or possibly even longer) last night, and I'm starting to think that my body's become completely immune to Seroquel when I take it at 7p, so this might get a little loopy.
You all know Massive Menagerie, right? Or, mebbe you don't, since it's one of WotC's Arena precons, and Wizards has historically be utter shite at building precon decks, stuffing them with mostly chaff, and a few choice singleton rares, out of a mistaken impression that people wanna buy them so that they can explore the creativity of deckbuilding and modification, or some such bullshit. The precons are usually, at best, completely ignored, and that's prolly what most of you do, if not delete those lists from your roster, because god forbid you have more than 75 decks.
This is going somewhere, I promise.
Years ago, I tried modding Massive Menagerie, and didn't get very far, because most of it sucked, and the meta was terrible for those kinds of decks. While for the most part, the meta has improved slightly (when the pairer isn't fucking me over by pitting me against nothing but the 77,000 different flavors of Control decks), it still languished mostly unplayed near the bottom of my list until very recently.
You'd think that a card like Wizard Class would be best in a control deck, wouldn't you? Wizards are usually all about dem spellz (instants and sorceries; mebbe artifacts and enchantments as well, as long as the Artificers and Enchanters ain't looking), right? Well, you'd be dead wrong, because Wizard Class works best in a Ramp/Stompy deck, alongside the best thing to happen to Simic since the color pairing got its name, Hydroid Krasis.
Massive Menagerie better
Historic legal (and prolly also Modern)
3 What goes up, must come down, Spinning Wheel Kick round and round ("Pets.com, because pets can't drive")
4 Island
2 Castle Garenbrig (This does positively dirty things with Krasis and Henge, and it feels like cheating every time. Every. Single. Time.)
4 Forest
Sideboard:
Welp, that's it for now. I gotta go post the link to this on my twitter, brush my teeth & go to bed. I'll see all y'all around The MageLaughlin Group.
