ludvikevervioletYour counter names are inconsistent. You add training counters, then remove charge counters.

Completely forgot I was in charge of this contest - so it's now closed! Judging will be done by tomorrowEDIT: Actually, here we go already! { Flo00}I like me some angel tribal land – even though I'm not sure whether I prefer this version or one with the ability to add without restrictions (probably at rare, then) – even though I know it wouldn't have fit the given challenge then Also, is this supposed to be part of a cycle? { Sanfonier of the Night}Considering the upkeep step is after the untap one, you'll always get a charge counter. Wording you're looking for is „At the beginning of your upkeep, if ~ started the turn untapped, put a charge counter on it. “ Using that wording, I do like the concept quite much – even though it feels rather wordy for a common. { viriss}One the one hand, I really like the simplicity in this design, but on the other hand I'm afraid this is just too strong for a land. I know we just recently had Interplanar Beacon, but you still cast (at least in most cases ) more creature spells in a game of Magic than planeswalker ones. { Jartis}This is an interesting wording to test out indeed – and I think I like it. Land obviously walks in the shadows of Maze of Ith and Kor Haven – and just like these two (especially with the added complexity of the ability) I think it should really be a rare as well. { ludvikeverviolet}Locked permanents are an interesting design space as I do like the old „ choose not to untap“ quite much. Your card itself however (even though slow) really seems to be too swingy for anything below rare, also is a strictly better basic land. Final nitpick: Quite a few minor wording issues. { melono}Compared to the Karoo lands or the Ravnica bounce ones, this looks really strong. Yes, it's a legendary rare, but offering you three mana by turn two is insanely powerful – the ability to protect itself on top of this not even considered. { gateways7}Repetitive creature exiling looks really dangerous, but I think only getting one creature at the time while requiring eight mana to use (seven plus Prison itself) keeps it from being too powerful. Also the flavor is obviously cool. { palorius}Turning other lands into a specific type as some sort of soft land removal is quite the interesting approach and I think it's safe a six mana (five plus the Scrubland itself) even though it's repetitive. It still is a strictly better basic land, though. {And the winner is..}We had quite a few very interesting designs around this time, but in the end I decided to give the win to gateways7 (mostly as I'm afraid I might end up inside that prison if I don't )

I didn't really think about making this into a cycle. Would make sense for sure

Thanks for the win! For the next challenge, make a land that works better in multiplayer or Commander! Good luck!

Trading Ruins of Ak’Tah Land - Desert : A player of your choice adds . Once a great trading post, now subject to more gloomy dealings.I wanted it to do a bit more than just the ability so I made it a desert for extra utility.

You go down by two mana, but your teammate each go up by one. And worst case, it's a (very) bad Shimmering Grotto.

Oof lmao this contest always gives me trouble judging. I'm on vacation and can't give a full judging right now, but I'll close this and declare viriss as the winner with Daij_Djan as a runner-up.

Here's part of a cycle of shard- and wedge-colored lands: filters! These are modeled after the original Odyssey cycle of filterlands, as well as the guild signets from original Ravnica block. I regard these lands as pretty powerful, so they enter tapped *unless* you're doing poorly. Fall behind enough, and you can play these lands and tap them immediately. For the curious, if you'd like to make these filterlands yourself, here's the rest of the cycle's names. Bant // Coral Lagoon Esper // Secret Enclave Grixis // Sinister Domain Jund // Primal Territory Naya // Shining Valley Abzan // Venerable Grove Jeskai // Secluded Falls Mardu // Holy Battlefront Sultai // Jungle Fortress Temur // Luscious Wilds

horizons At first I thought that was way too much power for a land, but Sandsteppe Citadel said otherwise. Other than writing the three mana abilities into one line, I think the 10 or less life clause is great. Flo00 That cares about life all right! I'm surprised only the Children of Korlis really do this type of effect. I think the memory issue is probably the problem. I think having several of these out at once could get out of hand. =) Daij_Djan Lol, that's almost too easy. I like the "you don't get it until you have it" FLAREdirector That's probably too good at mana fixing. The life clause is probably superfluous. Maybe moving the life clause to the mana ability preventing an untap? melono It should be "lose life" not pay. But even then... you get this out first turn, and use it once, and you'll be at... 7 life. Maybe paying a set amount when it enters would be better? Or at least less 10 minus something math for people to do. I'm glad the ability is three for three, and not something crazy like X for X. Jartis That's quite a dilemma. Get blue and colorless, or black and colorless, or save it to counter anything. The last ability doesn't need the "or less" I can't think of anything that changes a spells cost while on the stack.... unless you want to pay more life...? Very tricky. Fleur A land that turns into an assault squad? I'm a fan. I'm glad they don't get lifelink, I think haste is enough.

viriss: There is also Tainted Sigil. I guess multiples can be pretty strong. Maybe I'll make them reset your life to what it was at the beginning of the turn.
