We're proud to present our latest release, Purple Reign!
A set all about purple, Purple Reign is a spiritual successor to Planar Chaos! Purple was introduced first during an April Fools piece in inQuest Magazine, and was later playtested during Planar Chaos research and development. We have picked those purple pieces up off the cutting room floor, and turned it into a premise for a set! This set is similar to the various Masters / Horizons releases, with no particular constraints on returning mechanics or complexity.
Including 290 cards in the normal release; 104 common, 90 uncommon, 70 rare, 20 mythic, and 6 basic lands. Plus 18 tokens.
Also includes an additional 70 bonus cards as a supplementary similar to the Strixhaven Mystical Archives;
30 purple colorshifted cards (cards we felt could have been purple, had purple been a thing. enables access to cards for mono-purple commander play.)
30 purple timeshifted cards (cards too broken for a standard release; meant for limited and legal in eternal formats)
and 10 purple wedge commanders (partner up!)
For a total of 378 cards of superfunk!
Thank you for playing, -heliumdream

Really cool set! I like the design choices you made for purple and the interactions it has with the other colors. I feel like the way Strixhaven's lorehold plays would work really well as purple based on what you have here.
I'm also working on a purple-infused set of my own and was wondering what templates and frames you've used to achieve this look? The ones I have that include purple are wildly out of date and prone to errors in MSE.
I want to point out some inconsistency with the spit cards: sometimes purple is on the right, sometimes on the left (even with the same color combination). For example Master Lizora and Mistohollow Legion Other than that I like a lot this project! I need to take some time to go through all the cards
Thank you for taking the time to check out the set!
I am not quite a template master like some of the other folks in the MSE community; but I do hack the code and do my own graphic design to achieve some of these results. I'll usually take a known template that is close to what I need, and go change its source to include the other features. To various levels of success.
I think I've even edited my main package so Purple is a default color like the others. But I didn't quite do it right, and occaisonally I can't get the layouts perfect because of that. Like when the purple color is appearing on the wrong side, its because the template isn't appropriately picking up that two colors are active, and leaves the ~reverse~ option greyed out so you can't swap it. I'm not quite sure why. Part of it is because I defined Purple third, between Blue and Black - instead of first. So in the color order purple is preceeded by white and blue, and tends to jack up those templates.
Sometimes I just couldn't figure it out, and didn't particularly wanna spend anymore time messing with scripts instead of designing the set.
And because of how heavily edited it is, it's a pain keeping up with up to date releases. To end up using the new mainframe, I forked the set file to make some designs that could only be made with newer templates. And wasn't in the mood to re-hack my purple mods into it. It's a number of sub-optimal solutions; and requires manually photoshoping a bunch of things to get it just right. And manually adjusting the cockatrice output, etc.
I had considered trying to make a mainframe 15 extra and stuff purple into it; but really I'm not the guy for the job. I'm not intimately familiar with template scripting, I just hack a bit.
Thanks for the info. Mostly I want to be able to create the legendary frame in purple. I also like the man's symbol you're using more than the one from m15 extra. Would you be willing to share your photoshopped symbols, watermarks, and frame files? I can screw with the code on my own to implement them.
