Hello there, I'm The Magic X-Ray Tech! Cause I'm an X-Ray tech and I play Magic and so...yeah, kinda obvious where the name comes from. Anyway, you may have seen my brief introduction in the Official Introduction's Thread, but now I can go into a bit more detail for anyone interested in getting to know me. So let's start things off with a few basics. The Magic X-Ray Tech is a bit long, so feel free to shorten it. Tech, X-Ray, X, MXRT, whatever works for you will likely work for me. Aside from that, if you need to use pronouns when discussing me, use he/him. Aside from that, there's not much else I feel needs discussed in this area, so let's get to who I am as a Magic player/creator.
My Career
So, I obviously am an X-Ray Tech, if that wasn't clear at this point. However, it actually goes beyond that, because I also do CT as well. X-Ray just sounded better for my name. It's not the most creative job out there though, but I'm hoping to get a bit more creative with the custom designs I'll be able to do here. I just recently transferred to a smaller ER, and because we aren't quite as busy here as other places, it gives me some extra time to really focus on designing cards, which led me to finding this place. I don't have much experience designing cards, so I'm hoping to learn from some of you guys here as I go. Now, to talk about some of my hobbies, and we'll start with the big one, Magic!
Magic: the Gathering
I started off playing M:tG early 2009, just before Magic 2010 came out. I caught the tail end of the Alara block, and the first deck I ever piloted was an Azorious flyers deck. I was instantly hooked on the game, and the first deck I owned was the Rumbler precon from Alara Reborn. I wasn't much on Gruul, so as soon as I could get ahold of more cards, I quickly built an Esper artifact deck. From there I eventually cut out the white and ended up playing Dimir, which to this day remains my favorite two-color pairing. I never got into Standard or anything, although I began to try to get into drafting at the LGS, which has since become my favorite way to play. Outside of drafting, I play Commander with my friends, and occasionally at the LGS. I have a decent variety of decks, because I can't stop brewing new ones. As soon as I finish a deck, I'm off to the next one. I currently have I believe 42 Commander decks, of which I keep 7 actively built and in my rotation of play.
My favorite mechanic is Morph, and I try to include at least a couple cards with the mechanic in every deck I build, as well as trying to keep a dedicated morph build in my active lineup. So far I have 4 morph decks: Kadina, Slinking Sorcerer; Marchesa, the Black Rose; Animar, Soul of Elements; and Chulane, Teller of Tales. My favorite card happens to be Vesuvan Shapeshifter. I've always had a thing for clones, and a clone with morph is just that much better. In fact, I just recently turned my Lazav, Dimir Mastermind clones deck into Volrath, the Shapestealer clones.
Other Hobbies
Aside from M:tG, my main two other hobbies are video games, and Dungeons & Dragons. Unfortunately, finding a group to play D&D is difficult, so I became a DM by necessity more than anything. However, just like my creativity shows when it comes to non-stop deck brewing, being a DM lends itself as a nice outlet for being creative as well, so it worked out. Even as a DM, however, it's still difficult to keep a playgroup, so I've been inactive for awhile. For those who know anything about D&D, I'm mostly familiar with the 3.5 edition ruleset, but I've also recently begun to dabble into 5e.
Video games are probably my biggest hobby, having played ever since I can remember. I play primarily on PlayStation consoles, and when I got my PS3, the trophy system became a way to compete with my friends, and we've been hooked as trophy hunters ever since. I play just about any genre of game, but my favorite are JRPG's, and Final Fantasy being probably my favorite series of all time. I currently have 108 platinum trophies, and just looking at them you can see my range of interests go anywhere from RPG's, to Sports games, to Guitar Hero, to hack and slash, to shooters, and just about anything in between.
Closing Remarks
That's really all I have to say for now, but if anyone has any questions for me, feel free to ask. I'm also interested in any advice on where/how to begin on the fourms to get into card creation beside a few random designs I've scribbled out in random notebooks in random places from time to time. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope you found it at least mildly interesting. I hope to speak/create with you guys in the future.
