Hi! Another game from the old forums. Basically you get a flavor text, make a card with it and post another one. You have to rate the previous card. Like, for example: Up: Amazing card! I just love it!!! 10/10 Lightning Volt Instant ~ deals 5 damage to target creature or player. "Yadadadada!" -Schmaya Schmalard, schmask schmageNext: "Tastes like herring." Okay, so the first flavor text is: "...And it crawled upon me and looked at me with its rotten eyes; and there I saw nothing but our doom." -Ung the Survivor

Necrotic Slug Creature - Slug Deathtouch : ~ deals 1 damage to target creature defending player controls. Activate this ability only if ~ is attacking. 0/6 Next: He too will be laughing in the end.

Dog Ambush: Compared to Thatcher Revolt you get a similar effect with instead of and Hound instead of Human (an arguably more relevant creature type). Because of the creature type difference and the double I think this card is balanced enough. You also exile the tokens instead of sacrificing them (like you do with Thatcher Revolt), so effects that trigger off creatures dying won't trigger off your Hounds being exiled. Nicely done. 10/10 Spiral into Insanity Sorcery Excavate 3 (Draw 3 cards from the bottom of your deck). If ~'s madness cost was paid, draw a card instead. Cycling , Madness , Transmute "The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents." - H.P. Lovecraft

I so would love this for my Izzit deck. 9.95/10 Jacob Wright, CPA. Creature - Accountant Whenever Jacob Wright, CPA attacks, detain target creature you do not own. Whenever Jacob Wright, CPA deals damage to a player, transform it at the end of the battle phase. 2/4 ***** Jacob Wright, Ameture Taxidermist (B/G) Skincrafter (Whenever this creature destroys another creature during your battle phase, you may place an artifact token with all attributes of destroyed creature. Tokens created this way are not creatures and do not have strength or toughness.) Sacrifice a non-creature token: tap target creature. 4/3 Next: “Man is the only animal that blushes, or needs to.” - Mark Twain

UP: A bit convoluted in its own design, but the concept is solid and creative. The flip side needs some heavy re-wording, look at Sengir Vampire (Whenever a creature dealt damage by ~ this turn dies, X). I'd recommend taking another whack at it, cutting down on the spread of colors and abilities, and focusing more on the flavor of lawkeeping/accounting. Your use of Azorius guild mechanics and flavors are on-spot. ------------------------------------------------ Lover's Quarrel Instant As an additional cost to cast ~, tap up to three creatures you control. Draw cards equal to the number of creatures tapped to cast ~, then discard a card. “Man is the only animal that blushes, or needs to.” - Mark Twain ------------------------------------------------
Next: "I didn't expect it to be so... _______" (You can fill in the blank I left. Get creative!)

Up: I like the idea of having the three creatures "draw" an argument and having one lose out (discard). Very flavorful but doesn't feel red enough to me. 8/10 Catoblepas
Creature - Beast Menace Whenever another creature dies, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. "I didn't expect it to be so... smelly."2/2 Next: "Young fool. Only now, at the end, do you understand."

UP: CCM 2 2/2 with an upsize it seems okay with the menace, but the growth ability can get out of hand too fast. Not sure what environment this card is in, but if it is not removed it can become like Pack rat and be extremely oppressive. Specially due to the evasive ability. It starts like a Yahenni and Blood Artist mix, becoming something like Desecration Demon later on the game. The Menace just takes up blockers if you want to kill it in combat first, then later becomes a self growing ability. I do not know if you can tell, but I cannot really make up my mind on the card. It seems pushed but not too much. Maybe it is pushed just enough. I know though it is pretty snowbally, more of a win more card once it gets started. Revelation at the Grave Sorcey
Your life total becomes 1. Exile your hand and library. At the end of your next upkeep, you win the game. Sure, why not make an impossible win condition. Edit: Due to complexity, making it a previous iteration of what I had in mind. Next:“How did it get so late so soon?” ― Dr. Seuss

UP: I like, although it's a bit too janky to work within any type of draft setting sans maybe Innistrad/graveyard shenanigans. At mythic, even more so. Speaking of jank: ----------------------------- Fast Forward - Instant - You may cast ~ only during a player's upkeep. Choose Draw Step, Combat Phase, or End Step. That phase is skipped this turn. "How did it get so late so soon?"

Fast Forward: Seems like an overall decent card. No big issues. Consuming Ooze Creature - Ooze When Consuming Ooze enters the battlefield, exile target player's graveyard. Put a +1/+1 counter on Consuming Ooze for each creature card exiled this way. Bigger, stronger, slimier. 1/1

UP: Well somewhat improved Scavenging Ooze? The loss of the life gain makes it lose versatility though. As Scavenging Ooze can be played against burn decks. Follows the flavor very well though and is an interesting design. 7/10 Heat Up the Mixture Instant Counter target instant or sorcery. If you do, its controller reveals the top card of his library until he reveals an instant or sorcery card. They may cast that card without paying its mana cost. "How could I have known that a small change to the potion could do that?"NEXT: "I would pluck a star from the sky and gift it to you." Edit: Drats, forgot that. It is now a better polymorph for spells.

UP: Probably broken in that it does very well at countering your own stuff to cheat things out. I'd rather it reveal a suitably large number of cards from top of library (7) to avoid that being as problematic. Star-Struck Dreamer Creature - Human Citizen Whenever CARDNAME deals combat damage to a player, discard a card at random. If you do, you may put a card outside of the game into your hand. : CARDNAME gets +2/+2 and gains flying and haste until end of turn. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step. Activate this ability no more than once per turn. "I would pluck a star from the sky and gift it to you." --Azu the Romantic, last words 2/2 Next: ____ are like dragons; ________.

Star-Struck Dreamer: A bit of a nutty card, but I can see this being flavorful in the right set. Eldritch themed maybe.
Creature - Human Pirate First Strike : Pirate creatures you control get +1/+0 until end of turn. 2/2
Pirates are like dragons; greedy and full of fire.

UP: Great job playing around with the dragons flavor and giving it firebreathing (for all pirates, which also works with the line you went for). It looks super annoying to take out it being a firebreathing fire striker though. Gluttony Enchantment Whenever a creature deals damage to a player, that player sacrifices a nonland permanent. Hunger gets, what hunger wants.NEXT: Dead? That's open to interpretation.

Up: This either ends games or grinds them to a halt. That being said, it’s a good representation of Gluttony and definitely shows hunger getting what it wants. Circle of Life Enchantment — Aura Enchant creature If enchanted creature would die, instead search your library for a basic land card, put it onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle enchanted creature into your library. ”Dead? That’s open to interpretation.” — Cevraya, Golgari shamanNext: ____ had always hated ____.

Up: I like the dual benefit of getting a land as well as not losing the creature. My only problem would be, with the wording, you don't get any on-death effects from the creature, since this replaces it dying with it being shuffled into the library, instead of replacing it being put into a graveyard. Arguing Ettin Creature - Ogre Warrior Wizard If you cast a noncreature spell this turn, Arguing Ettin can’t attack. If Arguing Ettin attacked this turn, you can’t cast noncreature spells. Grin had always hated Grun.3/3 Next: Do you know the definition of insanity? I do.

Previous: Heh. I like this design, but I'm not sure what kind of deck you'd put it in. With a drawback like that, I could see that P/T being higher. Refute Repetition - Instant - Return target spell to its owner's hand, then return Refute Repetition to its owner's hand if another spell of the same name has been cast this turn. "Do you know the definition of insanity? I do."Next: Alone, godless, the cat healed itself with its tongue.

Up: Interesting idea and a good design, but I think it's a bit overcosted. Pobably at or even would be fine, beacuse it isn't a "hard conter". Oketra's Lynx Creature - Cat (Instert Hour of Devastation set icon here.) Whenever a creature becomes blocked by a creature you control you gain 2 life. Alone, godless, the cat healed itself with its tongue. 1/3 Next: "My name is _______. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Up: Could probably be a bit hardier (1/4 maybe?) but as-is I like the mirror to Afflict a lot. Avenge the Unlucky Instant CARDNAME costs less to cast if a creature you control died this turn. Exile target tapped creature. Draw a card. "My name is Telam. You killed my father. Prepare to die."-Telam II, Last WordsNext: One by one, they stood against a creature they had no hope of beating. And one by one, they became a part of it.

Up: Might have been more fun as a creature, but hard to argue with a white creature removal cantrip. Grave of Heroes Legendary Creature - Ooze When Grave of Heroes enters the battlefield, exile a creature you control. Whenever a creature dealt damage by Grave of Heroes would be put into a graveyard, exile it instead. Grave of Heroes power and toughness are equal to the total power and toughness of all creatures exiled by Grave of Heroes. One by one, they stood against a creature they had no hope of beating. And one by one, they became a part of it.*/* Next: All good things must come to an end. Bad things, not so much.

Gehenna, the Immortal Evil Legendary Enchantment Creature - Incarnation if you devotion to black is less than 10, Gehenna isn't a creature. Protection Gehenna is unable to attack or block. Other black creatures you control gain +2/+2 and have deathtouch. 0/8 "All good things must come to an end. Bad things, not so much."- SirizaNext: In his foolishness, what the young knight had given to the woman in black in exchange for the power to protect the ones he loved, were the very ones he wished to protect.

UP: It's always nice to see Devotion get more love, and I think it's good that Gehenna can so easily pump up your other black creatures. Problem is, you haven't given Gehenna a P/T value, even though she can become a creature. Also, I worry that she's too hard to remove from the board--but that might tie into the flavor text? You know what, let's go with that. All is well. EDIT: Since Evil Coco (Lydia Deetz) clarified Gehenna's text, I'm going to re-review it. I... truthfully, I understand it less now? If she's always a 0/0 that can't attack or block, why would you want her to be a creature? Is it purely for, like, "number of creatures you control" synergy? Because Black doesn't have a whole lot of those.
Bloodstained Bulwark Enchantment Creatures you control have indestructible. At the beginning of your end step, sacrifice a creature. If you can't, sacrifice Bloodstained Bulwark and it deals 5 damage to you. In his foolishness, what the young knight had given to the woman in black in exchange for the power to protect the ones he loved, were the very ones he wished to protect.
Challenge: It is said that when the gods first walked upon the soil, there the lotus began to bloom. Also, yes, you can sacrifice an indestructible permanent. I checked. Indestructible only prevents effects that use the specific word "destroy".

Post by mrlozano on Jan 29, 2019 22:29:37 GMT
UP: Clean design, reminds me of Eldrazi Monument. It's surely playable in a good wide token deck, but the double colored cost may relegate it only yo Orzhov decks. My entry: Lotus Spring Enchantment All lands have " : Add three mana of any one color." It is said that when the gods first walked upon the soil, there the lotus began to bloom.
|
|
|
Post by kefke on Feb 19, 2019 10:25:05 GMT
Up: Even at that cost, I'm not sure how balanced turning every land into a reusable Black Lotus is. It's definitely one way to hurry along the end of a game that's gone on too long, though. On the other hand, with some good ramp and X-spells... *laughs in G/R*
Anyways, no next flavour text, so I guess mine has none. Unstable Energies
Enchantment Cumulative upkeep — Target player creates a land token with " : Add ." During each player's end step, if they control ten or more lands, they lose the game. Lands have " , Sacrifice this land: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool." Next: Strange is the night where black stars rise, And strange moons circle through the skies — The King in Yellow, Act 1, Scene 2

Up: That cumulative upkeep makes my brain itch. XD It's like, oooh, free lands! And then you look at the next ability and go "oh no...free lands." Honestly, I love that, especially since the last ability gives you instant speed land sac and mana fixing without forcing you to sac your "good" lands (like nonbasics). I would absolutely run this card. I might even splash red in a deck that wouldn't otherwise have it to run it. Not to mention once you start getting into other uses for the tokens, like Lotus Vale and the various bouncelands. Next: " Huh, that is a shame...Oh well."

Haphazard Reveller 4BR Creature - Demon {Rare} Flying At the beginning of your upkeep, destroy target creature chosen at random. "Huh, that is a shame...Oh well." Watermark: Rakdos 4/4

Edit: Realized I missed this. Up: 4/4 fliers are nice, but the randomness makes the effect very unreliable, even worse so because your own creatures can be targeted given how it is worded. Overall, it's a pretty fine card if we ignore the part about being able to target your own stuff by accident, but I would nudge it just slightly higher I feel. Next one: There they stood, Bolas, Eldrazi, Phyrexians...never before had the multiverse seen such a terrifying alliance.
