Rules:For those not familiar with the game:
That said, I'd like to put up some initial rules to streamline the concept: Premise:1) Similar to the original thread, this can be treated as a Play-by-Post RPG. Think of it as a sort of sandbox Battle Boards where you are free to do whatever you want. Post whatever you want to advance the ongoing story in any direction, so long as you're advancing it. 2a) To adapt the original premise of the source game, at the beginning of a round, the player starting the round declares a page number. Each round's story will conclude after the posts have hit a specified page number. 2b) Your typical page full of short posts is about 30 posts, so keep this in mind. When considering other 'slow cooking' games like Booster Pack game where getting 15 cards can take a while, you generally should declare a game to last 1-3 pages at most (unless this game turns out to have a lot of essay writing). As a safety rule, if three or more individual posters object to the current page limit being too long, please reduce the target page number. 3) The first player to hit the declared page can post again (with a short conclusion if desired) and start a new round. If that player doesn't come up with anything within 1-2 weeks, another player may start the new round instead. (Said new round can be a story continuation of the previous round if desired.) Adopting the Calvinball Rule:4) To adapt the sole rule of the source game - when you design a card, state a new 'Rule' - this can be anything as easy and fleeting from "The next card must be an instant!" to something as complex and long lasting as "Any card from this point on must be a God." This rule is set is stone for the rest of the round, so try and be reasonable about it. 5) To adapt the "players cannot play it the same way twice" twice effect - you may not reuse a Rule that was used in the last round or the current round. 6) Similar to Booster Pack Game, players can't post a card twice in a row (except for of the round-end/round-start case in rule 3). Give at least one other person a chance to play! Original Post:Seems like some kind of variation on Calvinball. Now that's a fun idea for a forum game... So, do we wanna try doing a Calvinball? For those interested, I've quickly set up some rules to adapt the game and posted the first card below. - ZephyrPhantom

Now that's a fun idea for a forum game... So, do we wanna try doing a Calvinball? I'm down to try it as an experiment - let's see how far it goes. I think most of us would be willing to agree that the idea has a lot of potential but guy in the original thread had some issues that prevented the idea from really panning out. For those interested, I've quickly set up some rules to adapt the game and posted the first card below.Rules:For those not familiar with the game:

Page Number: 3 (The round ends when this forum game hits page 3.) "Xyltemen, Xytlehoms, and Xyltefils." The suited blob of sentient, animal shaped ooze blurbles as they reach into a satchel, pulling out a charcoal-black map with while markings on it. "I, Xuhom Matal, am in need of your humble services."Rule: The next two cards must have at least one class type on their typeline or text box.Drubb Questgiver Creature - Ooze Beast Noble Whenever you cast a Saga spell, draw a card. 2/2 "A new tale of glory awaits with your name on it."

"What is it? What is it? What is it? Let me see!" The goblin of the group excitedly jumps around the blob to get a better view of the map. "Hold still, you're making me nervous!" a big hand grabs the goblin's left shoulder and pins him down right behind the ooze. The goblin, unable to move any further frowns and mumbles "From here I can't see anything."Rule: Every second post must have at least two articles (a, an, the) somewhere on the card.Junkflinger Creature - Goblin Artificer Whenever an artifact is put into your graveyard form the battlefield, Junkflinger deals 1 damage to a random creature an opponent controls. His aim might not be the best, but he definitely knows how to throw stuff.1/1 I think it would make sense to collect all the current rules in the first post. Maybe also crossing out the temporary rules once they are done.

I think it would make sense to collect all the current rules in the first post. Maybe also crossing out the temporary rules once they are done. I would agree that we have to agregate the rules somewhere, but that puts a lot of responsability on one person in the thread... I think it'd be best to for everyone to just put the active rules listed at the top of each post (with a count for how many more posts the rule is active where relevant, and when it hits zero it can be taken off the next posts active rules list). {"Example Rule's Blurb"}Current Storyline: 3 Active Rules:
• The next two cards must have at least one class type on their typeline or text box (0). • Every second post must have at least two articles (a, an, the) somewhere on the card. New Rule: • The next 5 cards that have or mention power and toughness may not affect both the same way (5).
The dwarf holding the goblin in place against the wall gives him an understanding look. "I can't see much of anything from here either, but we can't have you jumping around like that in a throng of people. Yar liable poke someone's eye out with them daggers on your waist." Without warning the dwarf hoists the goblin by the scruf of his shirt: "But I think we can come to a mutually beneficial arrangement."And then the goblin was sitting on her shoulders: "Tell me what you see."The Sholders of Dwarves One Generic and a Red Tribal Enchantment - Dwarf Aura Uncommon Enchant creature. As long as you control two or more dwarf permanents, the enchanted creature gets +1/+2. As long as the enchanted creature is a dwarf, it has doublestrike. Flavor text: Sholders of giants this, sholder of giants that. Real warriors ride a stack of dwarves into battle.

It's some real bad bounty they have.""How many legs does it got?""He's holding up his hands...eight, I think.""Definitely a scorpion then. But what is that tiny thing scribbled on top of it in the drawing?"Blacktail Calvary Creature - Rat Scorpion Knight When ~ enters the battlefield, target creature gets +2/-2 until end of turn. Whenever a creature dies, ~ gets +2/-2 until end of turn. 4/2 The venom of a blacktail scorpion is said to unleash an unholy rage in its dying victim.

I like the idea of the rules section but I believe we should also keep old rules to help keep track of which ones we can't repeat. Also, I hope this game picks up some steam again. Current Storyline: 3
Rules:The next two cards must have at least one class type on their typeline or text box (0).Every second post must have at least two articles (a, an, the) somewhere on the card. (Inactive) The next 5 cards that have or mention power and toughness may not affect both the same way (4) Any card with power 4 or greater cannot be an Angel, Demon, or Dragon. New Rule:
The next 2 cards cannot contain the letter t (2) "Can't make it out... some sort of furry man?"
"Well whatever it is we'll need some supplies. I'll go sign us up for the quest and you go shopping for some new gear for the both of us... just don't blow it all on bombs like last time."
"But bombs are fun!" The dwarf stares up at him. "Fine!"Goblin Bartering Sorcery Shuffle your library. Then exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a nonland card. Until end of turn, you may play that card without paying its mana cost.

I agree so long as we only keep track of rules for the current story - that was my intention with crossouts before. Tracking rules beyond a story ending would defeat the point. That new rule is a really restrictive, btw - it screws over a lot of typing like creature, artifact, enchantment, and prevents the use of the word target. (And indirectly even screws over terms like "deal damage" because the whole phrase tends to be "deal damage to") Current Storyline Ends at Page: 3
Rules:The next two cards must have at least one class type on their typeline or text box (0).Every second post must have at least two articles (a, an, the) somewhere on the card. (Active) The next 5 cards that have or mention power and toughness may not affect both the same way (3) (4) Any card with power 4 or greater cannot be an Angel, Demon, or Dragon. The next 2 cards cannot contain the letter t (1) New Rule:
The next 2 cards must describe the party's bomb-shopping adventure. (2) "Welcome to Dyna's Blastworks shop!" The faerie tells the motley party of adventurers. "What would you like to buy?"Whimsical Perusing Sorcery Scry 2. You may exile a red card from your hand. If you do, draw a card. 2 a's, no need to check P/T, the letter T is completely absent from the card. Should be okay, right? Idea Bouncearama - Thanks for catching that about the P/T. I was tired

Post Count: 7th Post "Feel free to browse, but remember, anything that blows, you owes." The shopkeeper warned them.
The party had a look around the shop. This wasn't their first-rodeo bomb-shopping, though naturally the dwarf had to keep a close eye on the goblin, especially after spotting the sign "Warning: Bombs Now 20% More Explosive.".
"Shopkeeper. What does "more explosive" mean?"
The shopkeeper shifted her eyes.
"Now, surely you are aware."
The dwarf narrowed her eyes in turn. The dwarf knew that fae was up to something again.
"If you could just kindly clarify. Does it have more powder in it?"
"No, not quite."
"A more efficient design?"
"Well, it certainly is efficient. I can assure you you won't have any trouble making sure it goes off."
Ah. So that's what was going on. Defective products. But, well, bomb shops weren't all that common. How much travel would it take them to find the nearest one? Could they afford to try to find it... and perhaps a bigger question, could she convince the others to leave empty-handed for now?

(not a game entry, just commenting Flo00 should the bomb tokens really cost to activate? That way this spell is a spell that deals 1 damage or a Chandra's Pyrohelix with "your opponents may pay to deal 1 damage to any target")

I think the token is pretty flexible, so the make sense if you get them in larger quantities. Might not be the best card to showcase them.

I mean, you could change the token (costs to activate or amount of damage), but you could also just change the number of tokens you get.
