Hello, fellow denizens of the Jundland Wastes. As promised, here’s a decklist column. I think I’ll be doing this more often, whereby every time I complete a set on The Reserved List, the next week will be a decklist column, as a way to give me a break.
But first, a short note on the inner workings of this column. I write these a week in advance, so that my wonderful editor Daij_Djan (I won’t stop buttering you up until you feel like a piece of breakfast toast, good buddy!) can have enough time to read through it & suggest changes. So any and all topical references that I make will be a week late. With that in mind, I just wanted to call attention to the recent superb work of Martha Wells on the Magic story, and my immediate reactions to it:
Ok, enough silliness, on to the deck. This deck was one of the few decks I’ve made as a serious go at Standard, and like all Standard decks, has lapsed into Modern. Some of the sideboard choices will seem a little strange, until you remember that the Standard of the time was dominated by Whip of Erebos decks, which usually ran about a million Hornet Queens. The name was just the first word that popped into my head, and it seems to’ve stuck.
Skittles
4 Blossoming Sands
5 Forest
5 Plains
4 Temple Garden
1 Temple of Plenty
4 Windswept Heath
4 Hardened Scales
4 U Wot, M8?!
1 Feat of Resistance
4 Baah! Ram! Ewe!
1 Valorous Stance
3 ”Peter, I can fly!”
4 Banishing Light
3 Devouring Light Light ‘em up!
3 Tuskguard Captain
2 Bow of Nylea
4 Courser of Kruphix
3 Abzan Battle Priest
1 Ajani Steadfast
Sideboard
3 Gods Willing I’m thinking of swapping these out for Path to Exile
1 Feat of Resistance
3 Glare of Heresy
2 Valorous Stance
1 Devouring Light
2 Naturalize
2 Prowling Serpopard
1 Windstorm
I have absolutely zero experience with, or idea how to, sideboard, so this is the deck that’s slowly teaching me how. I still get the feeling that I’m constantly doing it wrong, even when I win, so any
advice on how to improve would be greatly appreciated. Even with all my mistakes, this deck is just a blast to play!
I’ll see you all next week, where we’ll be starting on Arabian Nights. Expect a lot of weirdness.

Looks like in addition to Sultai Hospital (my name for Jace/Vraska, as that pairing is all kinds of hurt/comfort, even if neither of them seem like they’d particularly like the Sultai), I’m gonna hafta start shipping Jhoira/Tiana/Weatherlight
