I’M FUCKING DONE WITH CONTROL DECKS!!! They piss me off so much1. Wizards, you did NOT need to give control ANY MORE TOYS TO PLAY WITH IN M21! Especially egregious is reprinting fucking eugene!
So, we’re gonna make our own little format, since you lot seem so enamored with the proliferation of new formats lately:
- EXTREMELY LIMITED
- Each deck in Extremely Limited can only ever have a maximum, among its main and sideboard, of the following:
4 Planeswalker cards You want a playset of a planeswalker? That’s all 4 slots used up. 0 4 Removal spell cards If it says destroy, exile, or deals an amount of damage capable of being lethal to anything, it goes here, and there’s no differentiating between pinpoint or mass removal. 0 2 Tempo (bounce/flicker/phasing effect) cards 0 2 Countermagic/control cards Countermagic you can understand, but when I say control in this case, I mean any card that prevents a player from doing something they normally could do. - Additionally, if any card qualifies under more than one of these categories, it takes up 1 slot of EACH of those categories, so that Tef3ri would take up 1 planeswalker slot, 1 tempo slot, and 1 control slot, and you could only ever have 2 in you main and side.
- If we wanna take it even further, we can say that the format rotates every four sets, NO EXCEPTIONS.
No, I’m not bitter (not much, at least), but writing this out has helped me to calm down. I just wish Wizards would listen more to the players, not only what they’re saying, but also what they’re NOT saying. I’m pretty sure nobody is begging Wizards for control to be even MOAR powerful than it already is right now. Judging by one of the links from last week, I’d say just the opposite. No one wants to see a return to the bad old days of utter control dominance.
If anyone would actually like to test out these format restrictions, be my guest. They were made more in frustrated anger than any consideration towards playability.
