"Then I guess I'll see you next year!" Lettie grins as she waits for her joke to land, and regardless of response, quickly flips through the first few pages. By winds of wastelands, this looks like the sort of nonsense an alchemist at home would come up with to explain medicine... except the whole plane is like that. Maybe they were on to something after all. Lettie takes a moment to internalize what she's read, and to wait for Ani to finish. "This is amazing. Back at home, we had alchemists who would try and guess at elements as being fundamental to our being. Course, none of their quackery ever actually worked, but I think maybe if I went... if I..." She trails off, and realizes what she's about to say. She fumes, and tries to recapture the rambling glee she had been channeling. "...um, I think I could apply some of their theories, see if they were really right, and if they were, that means I already have working recipes to treat any Volarian, or to adapt Volarian treatments to people like me! And then there's the potential in trying to cultivate strains of these plants to be less dependent on aether, or trying to adapt other plants to be more tolerable to the aetheric atmosphere..."Miasmatite Creature — Elemental Whenever Miasmitite attacks, defending player loses 2 life. 0/4 Aetherphile — Always a fan of additional mana restrictions in activated abilities. Also seems appropriately costed considering the gaseous form ability. 9/10 "Ooh, making strains less dependent on aether's something I want to do in the future too! I wonder if it's possible to make people less dependent on aether too..."Basically Silent Skimmer minus flying, it's probably fine here. 8/10 Resilient Nature Instant Target creature gains protection from everything until end of turn. Untap it. (Either protecting your creature or protecting one of my own so I can kill yours, it work either way)

I'll talk with you again when I come back by here... oh, and I almost forgot. I'm Lettie. See you for the next year." Lettie arranges to have her own copy of the book, and departs, and considers what she just said. Why did I promise that. Zeni's there, he's going to tell her that I was there. How did I get so caught up that- Gods damn it all, I'm going to have to dance to that song again.
Resilient Nature — I don't think we can say "protection from everything" on an uncommon. This also grants unblockability in white, which is very questionable. 6/10

As the light of day started filtering from the sky, Pidge bounded her way over to the EPIC outpost and pulled a blue envelope from her nearly empty mailbag.

"Leira." Seiva says my name like I'm in trouble. I lightly mark my page and close my journal.
"Something wrong?"
"I need to ask you about something." Seiva approaches me, sitting herself on the edge of my desk.
"Yep?" I look up at her. Is this about how I spent a week away? I've got more aether now, I can just go... I've got to find Sanaerti. None of my words come out as I watch her.
"I need to know why your internal thought energy is at point seven."
"My... what?" Point-seven? That doesn't sound right.
"Why is your internal earth at point two?"
"Is..." Is that why I've been so weak? My energy's doing weird stuff?
"I need you to go back to Entela and talk to a bioaetherist about it. You can come back when it's fixed."
"I need to keep searching. I can't just... walk away." My words happen now. "The city just went missing, it's all of my research. I can't just go."
"Leira, you've got an aether virus draining your energy. You can't expect me to let you stay here while you're sick like this." I look up at Leira like a young child. I can't leave. "You can come back when you're not dying. I need you to stay alive, and you need to go back to Entela to do that."
"I..." I guess I am dying, huh? I didn't notice the difference between a virus and aether exhaustion.
"You're not in trouble. Once you're healthy, you can come back and get right back to what you were doing."
I stare up at Seiva, stay there for a long second, and then nod. "Okay... Okay."
"Excellent. Let me send you back."
Leira has left the Arena for a short time while she recovers from being sick.
(For reference for those who aren't Volarian bioaetherists, internal averages for these are all about 1.)

"J?" I ask as I read the letter. It only takes me another moment of thinking to decide how to answer the question. "No, I'm not making any of my friends deal with this. Curse me if you will." "Okaaaaay?" Pidge says to the outburst. "Well, I gotta go, seeya later Seiva!" the kithki shouted as she bounded off.
If the letter took note of anything, it didn't seem to do so visibly.
The next morning as Seiva was waking up, there was something on her. Something small... and heavy... and moving... and going meow...
The cat rubbed its head into Seiva's and began to purr. Next to her bed, another cat meows to get her attention.
As she looks around, there's another, and another, dozens, maybe hundreds of cats all over the outpost, rolling around in papers, trying to climb the half built foundations, sniffing around the aetheric devices, and looking for trouble everywhere they could get.Catastrophe! Sorcery Each player creates a number of 1/1 pink Cat creature tokens equal to the number of artifacts that player controls plus the number of enchantments that player controls. Doomed to Despair - hmmm, feels off for red but guess it's not strictly out of color. Does seem more white tho. 7/10

"Where did these come from?" I say to no one in particular. Everyone else here is asleep. Somehow. We typically don't have these in Entela for a reason. Thankfully all our aetherics are off overnight, but now we'll have to de-cat everything.
What do I even begin to try to do about this? I step outside so I'm not disrupting anyone. And there's more cats. Wow. How did anyone even have this many cats, and how did anyone get them here without anyone noticing?
I sigh. "Contact Haia."
A cat presses its face into my leg. I flinch away from it. It jumps away for a moment before deciding to try it again. I guess I'll have to get used to that while we solve this problem.
My transciever clicks through. "Uh... hi, Seiva." Haia sounds tired. I guess I'd be tired too if I got up at 7 every day. "Something wrong?""Nope," I say, glancing around at all the balls of fur trying to get in the way. How did you get on top of that wall? I need to use magic to do that. "On an unrelated note, do you have experience dealing with cats?""I, uh... yes...? You can kind of... move them around with spells, if you're careful? They... like boxes, things that crumple... climbing things..."
"Oh, so like paper and walls?" She still sounds kind of tired. I tap my transciever to check her vitals. With Leira getting sick, I don't want anyone else catching that same virus.
"Paper, yeah... They climb anything they can find... They also get into really small spaces, like the... uh... deconstruction chambers."
"Well, there's a few of them here, so I guess we'll have to make sure there aren't any in the core or anything. Are they venomous?"
"What?" I guess that's something I was supposed to know. "Uh... I mean... no, they're not. The ones at the outpost seemed pretty friendly. I was, uh... going to tell you about them, but... thought it would be rude to wake you...
I chuckle. "Don't worry, I figured it out. Uh... while you're there, do you mind seeing if anyone wants to adopt a cat?" I look down at the 5 cats weaved around my legs. "There's a lot of them."
There's a giggle from the other side of the transciever. I'm not sure if I've ever heard Haia do that before. "Okay, mi-- Seiva.Catastrophe! is an amazing pun. Shame Seiva's too busy with the cats to notice. The first thing I notice when I step through the tunnel is the mess of fur across the outpost. "What in the hell is all this?" I say without thinking. No project head, no architect, but about a million cats. An elf and a student sit off to one side, seemingly unaware that there were cats around. The elf seems to have noticed me. Based on how exhausted he seems, he must be the subject.
The second thing I notice is just how little aether there is here. Even Outer Volaria had some. There's nothing here. No wonder this is so important. I look up at the elf who looked at me.
"We have a few cats now," he casually remarks.
"Where's Seiva?"
"Working on it." The elf looks straightens himself and stands up. The student just watches him. "I take it you're Kaira Veis, then?"
"Yeah. Aether technician, material effects mostly. I'm here to work with those rifles you got from Leritha." I look around. "I can't do that with these cats here."
"Oh, trust me. We also can't run the tunnel, core, or condensation grid with any of them here. Seiva and Haia are trying to fix that problem. If you'd like, I can show you the rifles, though. The tenebrite has... interesting properties, and the reaction they use seems to make enough force to break the sound barrier." A cat shoves its face against me. I lightly use magic to lift it away. That's a thing I'm going to have to do less.
"I'm interested to see what I can do, when I can."
Kaira arrives and unlocks Multityper.

"Mostly we use aether to turn it into other things. Occasionally you use aether directly, but mostly it turns into elemental energy, which keeps us alive and powers... everything. That's why an elem-elec core is so much better."Find a Use is a strange punisher. I'm not sure whether it's amazing or garbage, playability-wise. 8/10 Elemental Conversion Instant Whenever another player draws a card this turn, you may draw a card. If you do, discard a card.
Elemental Conversion seems alright, 9/10. Dropping the flavour scene.

His tail flips back and forth, and unlike the other cats, he trots off if someone gets too close. Up for Adoption - hmm, might want some way to rebuy or stack up benefits. 7/10

They're here.
Why are they here? When did they get here?
Whatever, I guess I can hide over here... Maybe they won't notice me...
Maybe...
EPIC reincarnates, though they're still around. Kei is here to take your attention.
In a small cave, the older woman resides. A few vials of water, laced with the brilliant yellow glow of magic. A bedroll. A small number of Lerithan bits. And books, written in a smooth and curvy script. Some have poetry, some have notes, and some... have prayers to some deity only named as Darkness. Darkness thrives beside the light, Darkness exists in all forms of life. Darkness is worthy of prayer, of praise. Some track the motion of various interplanar organizations, the Seventh Circle, the Eternity Project, and the Lerithan Merchants most notable among them.
Age barely shows on the woman's face, but it doesn't seem to have affected her mannerisms, lifestyle, or abilities. Almost unnaturally, her hair remains jet black, despite her growing age. She wears a dark cloak over top of a long white dress, and carries a wooden staff with intricate shimmering white runes that make a double-helix down its sides.

(Still had a loose end to wrap up)
It’s been a few days since the interaction with Miss Twyla. Nothing’s changed much in our ability to make aetheric environments or in finding planes to relocate an entire world’s population, but we also haven’t died yet, so we’re probably doing alright. Of course, having not died yet, that means I need to record data about the other conversations of today. Where’s my notebook?
“Miss Seiva?” That’s Karina’s voice. I look up to see her standing in the frame of my door.
I sigh. I told Karina we’d talk about it later. Guess it’s time. “Yeah, I owe you an explanation, don’t I?”
“Yeah, you do.” Karina crosses her arms. “How much of Volaria’s in trouble?”
“Uh… My current theory is ‘all of it’. We don’t know exactly, but I see no reason why it shouldn’t finish collapsing. There’s nothing we can do about it.” I look down at Karina and wait for her to ask more questions.
Karina frowns and thinks. “But you can move people, right? So… how much time do we have?”
“About a hundred years. Kaira did the aether resonance calculations and estimated that it’d happen at about 500 VY.” Karina takes a sharp breath. That’s about the reaction I had too. “In that time, we need to find places to put people. Which is most of what I’m doing here while we work on not dying.”
“Um… I know a plane. It doesn’t have people on it. Maybe that would work?”
I stare at her, running through all the possibilities. “Completely uncivilized?” I ask. “So like, we could put a tunnel there, have a civilization and not bother anyone…?” That’s literally almost the perfect plane. It’s still not aetheric, but at this point I’m kind of accepting that we’re not going to find a plane that’s aetheric, we’re just going to have to adapt to not having aether. I jot some notes down into my notebook.
“As far as I’ve seen,” Karina says, pulling my attention back.
“Excellent, great. I’ll have to ask you for more details about that in the future. That’s such an important find…” Okay. Okay. Calm down, we’re okay. “For now, back to the topic at hand.”
“Who else knows?”
“Uh…” I think about the conversations in the Arena. “Myself, Kaira, Master Sara… And then, Miss Sevid, Miss Twyla, and Inspector Aevia. That’s it. We’re under very tight orders not to tell any other Volarians. You know, as well as that went.”
Karina takes a minute to think things through. I guess that’s the best I could expect from an eleven-year-old. “I’m telling Hannah. And I think I have to tell the 7CI.”
“Yeah, I’m not going to try to stop you.” I briefly consider my next words. “But please make sure they know that this is exceptionally confidential. The number of people that know this is less than ten.”
“... When are we telling everyone else?”
“Whenever we have a real answer. If something happens to EPIC, we lose our chance to save everyone, so it’s… really important that no possible enemies learn until we’re ready.”
Karina looks up at me like she’s not sure if she believes me. “Who would want...” Karina looks back down before she finishes her sentence. “Okay,” she sighs. I hold up my hand to let her know she should stick around. I don’t know if she was about to planeswalk, but I need her here still.
“Also, I have to pay you for your translation services. That’ll be three and a half ryla for each half-hour. Did you want me to credit that or did you want cash?”
“Can you even credit it?”
“Definitely. It’s connected to your name and ID number. … which for you isn’t important, since no one else ever has or ever will have the name “Karina Oblay” on Volaria. Here, let me show you...” I poke around my transceiver to show Karina how to check her credit. “You can tell literally any Volarian vendor ‘Credit Karina Oblay’ and they’ll apply it to the amount you have on credit. There’s a bunch of checks that they do to make sure it’s actually you, but you don’t need to worry much about that.”
“Um… then yes, that, please.”
“Excellent. I think I had you for the better part of two hours, so I’ll pay you fourteen ryla for it? … And then I’ll let you go back to Hannah now. If you have more questions or ideas, come talk to me about it and I’ll try to help you.”

Glimmer of Starlight Instant Until end of turn, nonland permanents you control gain "When this permanent is put into your graveyard from the battlefield, return it to the battlefield under your control.""In the darkest nights, the stars still shine on the believers."Specifically Enchantments and Creatures is a bit of a strange combination to see on a card. It's also really hard to make the second half relevant, so maybe it doesn't need to be at random. (Also at random probably is functionally similar to targeted in 90% of decks) 7/10

Whoops, mana cost should be . I think Estova would be better if he gave you an extra card, yeah. In my experience playing with vanguards, the decreases (mostly to hand) are minorly annoying but are also rarely stopping you from doing busted stuff. (Shifty, I'll get to that once I pick up this other response)

If you do, each opponent loses 1 life and you gain that much life.)Whenever one or more creatures deal combat damage to you, you gain 2 life. , Sacrifice ~: You lose 1 life and draw a card. "I have little interest in physical objects... If you have information about the Eternity Project for Interplanar Cooperation, or the Seventh Circle Initiative... Then I would be more interested."Nicholai's Audacity is doing... a whole lot, and I'm not sure how many of them really want to be in the same deck or cost 4 mana. I also don't think this is really in need of being legendary? 6/10 Binding Starlight Enchantment When Binding Starlight enters the battlefield, exile target nonland permanent an opponent controls with converted mana cost less than or equal to the number of enchantments you control until Binding Starlight leaves the battlefield. Nothing Left To Do But Face The Encroaching Night Scheme Ongoing scheme At the beginning of each opponent's upkeep, that player sacrifices a permanent and you gain life equal to its converted mana cost. At the beginning of your upkeep, if you have 30 more life than any opponent or no opponents control no nonland permanents, abandon this scheme.
I'm glad this says "or" and not "and". However, Archenemy starting at 40 means it seems likely this just does absolutely nothing. 7/10 As the Sun Falls Instant Target player gains life equal to the number of cards put into graveyards this turn. Draw a card.

Draw a card. Odd how good As the Sun Falls is with mill, may be more appropriate in but it does work in this colour. 8/10
The Rivers Shimmer With Ghosts Scheme When you set this scheme in motion, create a 1/1 blue Spirit creature token with flying for each card in your graveyard.

The river is, in fact, filled with ghosts. They should probably be white, though. 9/10 Spirit Sending Enchantment When Spirit Sending enters the battlefield, exile all creatures until Spirit Sending leaves the battlefield.

You Truly Do Not Have To Worry About Me Ongoing Scheme
You and untapped creatures you control have hexproof. Tap an untapped creature you control: Destroy target tapped creature. Activate this ability only once per turn and only at any time you could cast a sorcery.
At the beginning of your end step, if you control no untapped creatures or an opponent controls no creatures, abandon this scheme.

Kei crouches down next to the fox to attempts to pet it like she would a living animal. A similarly glowing cat generates itself next to the fox, sniffing at it.This seems very good, much like Lingering Souls. I'm unsure if too good, so it can be 8/10 Starlight Companion Enchantment Creature - Cat Whenever a token enters the battlefield, you gain 1 life.1/1 The fox-construct treads warily through the air around Kei's conjured cat. Suddenly, it steps in two directions at once and there are two foxes, eyeing each other and barking silently. One of them reaches out a paw and bops the cat lightly on the nose, freezing up for a second before the two become one again and the lightform takes off at a run, quickly becoming one with the glare of the sun.On Starlight Companion: Interesting Soul Sister sidegrade, and a design I like a lot. I wouldn't put this at common, personally, but it's definitely a 9/10.

The Eternity Project’s outpost seemed to finally be finished. The young architect excitedly pointed at parts of the building as she toured most of the members through it, visible from the outside through glass walls supported by marble and aethersteel. Interior walls were decorated wooden walls, though they shimmered of some kind of magic.
The architect pointed into various rooms, tracing along the walls. Had she ever been this excited before? Certainly not in any time Kei had been around. She was certainly excited enough to speak loud enough for Kei to hear her, which marked the first time Kei had ever heard the girl.
Kei approached, keeping behind the interior walls as the excited architect continued to guide the members of the Eternity Project around. Four combat casters were with her. One was a cryomancer. Two more were completely unrecognizable. The last one… Kei recognized her type of magic. She recognized it well.
”T-this is your new material effects lab!” The architect let one of the unrecognized combat casters into the room to see it. Her name was… Kaira? “Whatever you needed it for. I’m not, uh… I’m not sure why…”
”Don’t worry, you let me worry about that,” Kaira said as she came back out. She connected eyes with the cryomancer. “I’m working for our future.”
”I’m working for our future.”
”I’m not letting you take her from me.” Kei looked at the man that intended to take her daughter. Previously she may have thought more of him. No longer. She cringed to think she had any feelings for him at any point. She cringed to think that he was her daughter's father, the same person who wanted to…
”I’ll have to use force if you keep resisting me. Stand down.”
That was enough. She knew enough. Kei stepped back, quietly at first, breaking into a full run once she was out of the immediate sight of the Eternity Project. She could hear that someone knew she was there. She desperately hoped none of them had seen her.
There was still much more to be done.
Kei has unlocked sorceries to help her planning for the future.
