Meliyah al-KhovaniBloom of the Fifth Garden"Beauty flowers in the heart of every living being. Yes, even you." art by Fahmi Fauzi ML 0 Types: Creature, Enchantment Perks: Enchanter, Rarity Upgrader KeywordsRefract <cost> (<cost>: If this permanent has no shine counters on it, put one on it and create a token copy of it without this ability. Refract only as a sorcery.)Valor / Score: 34 / 34 Mana Pool: 10 / 10 A Brief SynopsisOn Meliyah's home plane, war and peace alike are waged for the approval of the Fairest, the fickle fae gods who watch over the world and value aesthetic appeal at least as much as actual achievement. Meliyah works for the Fifth Garden, her nation's intelligence and special operations service, as a designer of hard-light constructs for all manner of purposes. To stave off the dread specter of artist's block, designers like Meliyah are sent on frequent extended holidays to refresh their minds; thanks to her planeswalker's spark, she can go much further afield than the provinces, though only her handler knows this. The Arena is the site of her latest sabbatical, and she's out seeking new sources of inspiration for her future creations. Meliyah's HomeNone, yet.

shiftyhomunculus An older looking man approaches the woman, seemingly intent on speaking with her. "Ah, hello there! I don't believe I've seen your lovely face around here. "All bark and no bite, I see!" Meliyah is a little startled to encounter another on the road, but she's quick to ready her blandest, most pleasant facade to greet this new arrival (gods know, she's had enough practice with the functionaries back home). Just as he gets within earshot, though, recognition clicks in her head - it's him! That lovely individual who broke her concentration when she was out surveying earlier! Still, best to stay nice. Maybe he hasn't made that same connection.
She stops and straightens up. "Thank you for your kind words," she says, inclining her head almost imperceptibly. "My name is Meliyah al-Khovani. I'm here on vacation, to take in the sights of this realm." Mentally, she prepares her cover story, the storied career of the parallel version of her she'll be using for this particular extended break. "You must forgive me; I've yet to acquaint myself with the area. Would you do me the honor of introducing yourself?"Cover Identity Enchantment You have hexproof. A life you've never lived can still be quite the education.On Empty Words: I'm not sure I'd call this a blue effect - because it's continuous, the "counter" wording is a bit of a red herring since it's more like a tax effect than true countering. Pretty well-costed, though, so it still gets a 7/10.

The politics of this realm continue to baffle me. Yesterday I attended a gala hosted by the Count of Valuce Majeure, and, in a side room, I encountered a strange bald fellow who claimed to be the heir to the throne of Elnoch. (He is the third such man I have encountered over the past two weeks.) Claiming that he could prove this, he plucked a crimson moth from a nearby wall and demanded that the Duke of Celetue eat it... and, presumably out of some obligation he felt to the Elnish crown, inasmuch as it exists while Elnoch remains a republic, the Duke did so, before retiring to the vomitorium for quite some time.
Out of curiosity, I had an analyst pattern take a look at one of those moths, and they're deadly poisonous. From the manner of this Peris Rook, I would be equally unsurprised whether he knew this or not.Prostasia Priest Enchantment Creature - Cleric Whenever one or more creatures and/or planeswalkers you control become the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, you gain 3 life. 1/4On Peris Rook: I have no idea how to assess Vanguards so I can't really speak for balance, but, off the top of my head, my impression of this one is that it's quite swingy for something you're meant to be able to build your own deck around; it seems pretty strong against midrange and certain types of control, and pretty bad against any deck that goes wide or plays no creatures at all. 6/10, I think.

shiftyhomunculus Cover Identity: 3 feels a bit too little, 4 feels too much, rough spot. Solid and slick design. 9/10, 1 of those points is purely how much I love that flavor. Also, not a request for reconsideration, but I was thinking that there's a little flexibility with counter via "maybe I want it to be in my yard!" but yeah, it is more taxey. Nicholai gave a slight frown. This was the second time his name had been ignored upon introduction, and by a different person... was he that unremarkable? "Er, well, yes. Good to meet you, Ms. al-Khovani - I, once again, am Nicholai. An enchanter and artificer, at your service." as he spoke, he felt that same weakness from earlier, but only slightly. He realized where he had seen this woman before... but he continued as normal. "All is forgiven. Now, you said it yourself, you're on vacation - and what's a vacation without something to remember it by?" he asked. "I offer a range of items - from magical to pure vanity! Something like..." he stares at her for a moment, before nodding and pulling out a ring with a white gemstone in the middle.White Topaz Ring Artifact - Equipment Equipped creature gets +1/+1. : Equipped creature gains indestructible until end of turn. Equip He taps the topaz in the center, and a white aura forms over him. "See? For a bit of mana, it protects you from all mortal harm for a short time. So, interested?"

Seemingly from nowhere, a wild, flailing orc with two cleavers appeared near the scholar, only stopping to breath heavily and look wildly at his surroundings. His eyes caught Meliyah, and the orc roared again, running the sharp end of one of his cleavers against the other, a provocative move. {Attack Card - Caterwauling Raider}
