pixelguard you still need to write out "The first time you cast or copy a spell each turn..." - ability words have no inherent rules text of their own. And now for my entry: Formless Lurker Creature - Shapeshifter , pay 2 life: Formless Lurker becomes a copy of target permanent until end of turn. It lurks in the shadows, waiting for an idea it can claim as its own, if only for a short while.2/2 Edit: Forgot p/t I know that it does not have a ruling on their own, but i was like "ehh, we all know what does it mean. it make card looks smoother." And who knows, maybe one day it will be a thing, bc it should be. Otherwise even putting "magecraft" or other abilities on the card is pointless

Otherwise even putting "magecraft" or other abilities on the card is pointless I don't think it s pointless at all. The text should be there so that people who don't know the ability know what it does. Yet if you know the ability, you can just skip over the text you already know. I think kinship demonstrates this pretty good. When I see one of those cards, I read it like "Kinship - skip four lines" Ability words also help a lot in making abilities easier to handle in your mind. If a card has magecraft I know exactly what it triggers off and don't need to read that part a second or third time during a game.

Yep, psuedokeywords (outside their use as pure flavor in the DnD set) are the best middle ground wizards RnD has come upwith between putting all the rules text on the card and putting all the details in the reminder text, which is then omitted from some cards. It make the game more friendly to both noobs, who need the text, and veterans, who don't need the text. That said, pixelguard if you don't like using psuedokeywords as they've been laid out by wizards, you don't have to: it's a free world after all if you ignore all the capitalism. Just understand that by doing so, you are choosing to give up some utility.

JUUUUUD... oh, wait, that's me. {viriss}Good french vanilla. Right rarity. It works. It's just not very exciting. I also liked you first entry {hydraheadhunter}At first, this looks like another Murmuring Mystic/ Kykar. But this also can wreak major havoc on your opponent's board. Given how cheap this is, you will usually be able to play this and make some copies of it right away. Even if the original is easy to kill, the copies still keep their activated ability. I like what this does, it just seems very dangerous that this might easily create unfun situations. Is there a special reason why the border is purple or is it just esthetics? {MonkeyChewToy}I like the really flavorful connection between investigate and learn. Creates an interesting new combination to build your deck around. The mentor seems a bit randomly added on. With that art, I would have expected something that refers to the according steps in your turn {ZephyrPhantom}That's a fun combination of effects. I like how this is one time delayed 4 damage. And then it's either just a wall or a challenge to find a good way of tapping htis. Works probably pretty good in a vehicle deck. I also like how this is definitely in the right colors but doesn't really do aggro like usually does. {sdfkjgh}The activated ability an amazingly good ratio of cost vs effect. And I don't mean too powerful, but just the right amount. I like how this kind of mimicks a Cinder Elemental but can be kept in play with the right efford. {pixelguard}Ability word discussion aside - the last ability is pretty crazy. Combined with the Magecraft, I guess the best way to play him is to fill your deck with counterspells.
{gamma3}Nice take on the clone ability. And a good way to use the base picture and the fact that you actually don't have a profile pic. Took me three times reading your card to get that it actually copies any permanent and not only creatures. Me likes.
{Ymonrah}That's a fun way of adressing the problem of your picture already being a card. Gave me a good laugh. I also like how you downtuned every bit on Omnath's abilities and yet it still seems like a somewhat playable card. Also nicely done that as a little bit of compentation you let it trigger on after the third landfall. The only thing that confuses ma a bit is why the scry is a may ability. Why would I not want to do it?
Thank you all for so many good entries! I'm having a hard time deciding for a winner.

Flo00: Thanks for the win, and excellent use of the meme.
Let's get strange. I would like, if I may, to run this entire contest backwards this time: I provide the card design, we all submit arts and credits, then at the end of two weeks, Will of the council--we all vote on which art we feel best fits the card, and whichever art gets the most votes wins it for the one who submitted that art. In the event of a tie, there will be a runoff vote.
Here is the card:
Shardstorm Instant Choose one— • Destroy target artifact or enchantment. • Destroy target creature with flying. Entwine (Choose both if you pay the entwine cost.) Overload (You may cast this spell for its overload cost. If you do, change its text by replacing all instances of “target” with “each”.)

Sandstorm Hellkite Creature - Sand Dragon Flying, haste Whenever Sandstorm Hellkite attacks, you may exile another target creature you control and the top card of your library in a face-down pile, shuffle that pile, then manifest those cards tapped and attacking. 3/4

If you want the land to lose its abilities, then your card has to state it. Deleting abilities does only work for basic land types. If an effect sets a land’s subtype to one or more of the basic land types, the land no longer has its old land type. It loses all abilities generated from its rules text, its old land types, and any copiable effects affecting that land, and it gains the appropriate mana ability for each new basic land type.

Flo00See, I was wondering if that's how that worked, because I was looking into cards that did it, and they all do basic land types. Which I realize have specific rules associated with them, but I'm really not a fan of the corner they've written themselves into with it. The end of rule 305.7 states "If a land gains one or more land types in addition to its own, it keeps its land types and rules text, and it gains the new land types and mana abilities." (Emphasis mine.) That, to me, means that a card should have to state "in addition to its other types," whether the type is basic or not. I'll probably get around to changing it, just one of those oddly specific rules that hasn't come up yet on any official card (at least that I could find) which makes designing in that space a little bit more of a headache than it should be

It's nonbasic land types (Desert, in this example) that require you to write in the specifics.

Flo00 A three mana 3/4 flying creature that can attack same turn with two 2/2's is really strong. lordpat I wish it made 1/1 colorless Sand creature tokens instead of a single. Also I think it can't be a Desert unless it's also a land. Flo00 & lordpat , I like that you both had the "storm sweeping in" feel to your entries! Jartis I had my own questioning of "does this overwrite?" "can I use this offensively?". By itself it's hard to see the utility. Winner lordpat

Thanks for the win aswell! I thought about making them 1/1's but was worried about powerlevel. So, seeing how we have been trying to add some spice to the challenge and failing, I'll try this. I will provide you several images. You must pick one of them and make it feel home in the following plane: "Arvellas is a world dominated by five powerful empires, seeking to take away wealth from anything they can: - : The druids of Merv, obsessed and fanatical, and love feeding those who they feel inferiors to their "pets".
- : The warriors of Reket, are convinced of their superiority, and want to make sure that their bloodlines live on, usually by killing anyone they don't like.
- : The wizards of Bruj, materialistic, shallow, fame and power hungry. They enjoy the pleasures of lives while exploiting those they conquer.
- : The artificers of Sumad, cruel and efficient. They seek to achieve their goals dilligently, extracting resources and ruining the lives of countless.
- : The obnoxious and paternalistic knights of Sheras, they claim to do things for the good of those ethey conquer. In reality, they are just as cruel and exploitative as any of the other empires, recurring to absurd and humilliating punishments for even the most petty things.
Arvellas has several monocolored tribes and groups that have been used and abused by the five empires in their power seeking games.
" {Image 1 - credit to jameszapata on Deviantart} {Image 2 - Tsabo6 on DeviantArt} {Image 3 - anndr on DeviantArt} {Image 4 - Emiroth on DeviantArt} {Image 5 - Nele-Diel on DeviantArt} {Image 6 - JasonTN on DeviantArt} I went with some "obvious" images, but also threw in some less "obvious" ones so that you can have space to be creative. Good luck! Also: feel free to be creative here. You can use full art cards (promo cards and stuff like that) if you want all the vertical art to fit. You can also (although it would be hard) to make a double faced cards using two of the images here.

Yo guys, apparently this didn't work well. So, new challenge: Create a card using any of the art of the post above. It doesn't have to fit this plane if you don't want to.

Forgot about thisss
Flo0: I love the simplicity and yet incredible flexibility of this card. I think tapping creatures with reach is cool beacuse it allows you to attack with flyers. Triggers every combat might make it a bit too impactful tho. Still, great card. vriss: Super cool card, I really dig it and the flavour I gave for the set does imply treasures and stuff like that is a thing. It is a different type of flavour for GW but I like those things. Not only because noncreature tokens sound like a cool idea, but even something like sacrifice in general is actually on color with GW. They are both solid cards, but I'm gonna give the iwn to viriss because I love the way he used the art, it really sells the "I'm superior to you and you are probably going to die", while flo0'S card art is good but more traditional.

Daydreaming Enchantment If a player would draw a card, put a dream counter on Daydreaming instead. When Daydreaming has five or more dream counters on it, sacrifice it. When Daydreaming leaves the battlefield, each player draws a card for each dream counter on it. The basic idea behind this is a symmetric Pursuit of Knowledge. I'm sure there are some fun ways out there to abuse this. It's Magic after all.

| Glory-Daze A generic and three white Enchantment
Flash When Glory-Daze enters the battlefield remove any number of target creatures from combat. Each creature you don’t control doesn’t untap during its controller's untap step unless its controller pays a generic mana (They pay for each creature individually).

Trestian Machinations Instant Each opponent can’t draw more than one card this turn. Whenever you or a permanent you control becomes the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls this turn, you may draw a card. “I can arrange that, sure.”
