Jartis - I've always thought Awaken was kind of an awkward mechanic. I think tying it to a land search is a good way to make use of it, though. Nothing seems too outrageous about the way it's costed, and it seems all around like a decent example of Green being Green, though I almost wonder if it couldn't have been at Common with how straightforward and "bread and butter" the overall effect ends up being. The flavour text is a little silly, but I like it. I do feel, though, like the primary effect doesn't really tie well to the art without the secondary. somerandomperson - Your card has some good theming, and it gets full marks for creativity. This is an interesting take on a Saga, but I don't think it works. Mechanically, it does, but having I think that ultimately what it's doing overall doesn't lend itself well to the Saga card type. With the single effect, it might have been better to just make it a normal enchantment. I grant you, this way does have an effect on what it's doing, guaranteeing a trigger each turn and setting a limited number of activations, but I think that the Saga mechanics overall bog down the card in an inelegant way. I'd also normally say that at CMC 6 the amount of value that Landfall gives is diminished, but this is a card that encourages building a deck to take advantage of late-game land drops with its effect that scales the more it's used, so it gets around that. However, if you have no other source of land creatures, it's only netting you a 1/1, 2/2, 3/3, and a 4/4, which isn't terribly exciting that late into the game, and for having to work around its mechanics, even with haste. So it's also a card that is going to rely heavily on support from other cards. Overall, this card wants a deck to be built around it, which can be both a good and a bad thing - though it helps here that with proper support, it is absolutely a win condition. Flo00 - Your entry is pretty similar to our first one, actually, though more cohesive and self-contained. So a lot of the same thoughts apply. However, folding the Awaken into the main card created an awkward and slightly ambiguous wording. "It becomes a 0/0 green Elemental creature in addition to its other types and gains haste until end of turn." At a glance, I can't tell if only the Haste is meant to last until end of turn, or also the being a creature. With pseudo-Awaken, the former would make sense, but the wording supports both interpretations. If the latter, it could have benefited from having the clause about Haste separated with a comma or period. If the latter, putting the "until end of turn" before the effect would have eliminated the ambiguity. viriss - This is interesting to me, and I like how you've deviated a bit from the obvious with your design. That's sure a big thing to be mutating, though! Design-wise, this is another card that seems to want the deck to be built around it, but it's also pulling the focus in two directions. On the one hand, it wants to do lots of mutating, but on the other hand it wants to be in a token deck. It's also a bit less of a definite win condition than our second entry, though the potential is still there. melono - Our third card that wants to be in a certain kind of deck, but probably the easiest one to build around. It's only after one thing, and having a specific creature type is more manageable than either Landfall or balancing two aspects. A hydra that fights on entering also surely fits the bill of a potential win condition, though being big with its only other ability having a risk of backfire depending on the opponent's board it keeps it from being a perfect one. Name, flavour text, and theming are all strong here, and make for a believable card. I think that CMC 3 might be a little on the low side for the effect, but given that it excludes itself, and that the value of X is fixed when it enters the battlefield and not a constant match to current plants controlled, it can probably get away with it. gamma3 - Something about this entry feels off to me, but I can't put my finger on what. It's got reasonable power and toughness for its cost, especially for a creature with Defender, and the flying hate fits with Green and with the art given. I can definitely picture this as something that would fit. Two-and-tap cost for a base 4 damage to anything with flying each turn feels cheap, but green has similar creatures with stronger effects. Ultimately, I think on an intellectual level that I'm undervaluing this entry, but somehow the overall package just doesn't work for me, despite the fact it technically should be doing anything right - and I really can't explain why that is. I think that with such a simple effect, it's a bit of a shame you didn't give flavour text, though. Winner: melonoRunner Up: virissHonourable Mention: gamma3 (Who almost certainly deserved a better score than I gave them, and I can't adequately explain what it is I didn't like.)

gamma3: The biggest issue I see is that it's either under rarity or over powered. An uncommon that can regularly kill two creatures per combat is ridiculous. Bumping it to rare (and possibly removing defender in the process) or any combination of 1) making it fight, 2) upping it to , and/or 3) removing reach would balance the card out.

kefke it was ments as a pseudo-awaken that only grants the haste until end of turn. I see that the wording wasn't clear on this.

After designing it with "trades flying for protection" in mind and taking Pursued Whale as reference for the protection, I thought I was adding the "diving into the water" flavor to the ability, only to realize that the Pursued Whale aka Moby Dick was probably already designed with that flavor in mind. So, probably not very ingenious but let's keep it. {old version without ETB clause}

Judgement! MaiApologies (She/Her) - Thunderous Skywhale: An advanced Bonecrusher Giant without the Stomp. The advanced Bonecrusher ability is really strong on a great body, and added to it is the lifelink. Even without the flying and the vigilance this would be very powerful, and now I am afraid it is a bit too powerful, though only playtesting would tell. viriss - Etherwhale Pod: Stronger Prowess, with an ability to copy itself. Really interesting mechanics, making it so you have to decide when you’re copying your whale. I feel like this card might be more suited for rare though because of the copying, but that isn’t the most important. The copying being instant speed might be a bit too strong. Jartis - Wizened Seabeast: a really powerful tribute ability. Either it gets +3/+3 or you draw at least 5 cards. Which, unless it’s all decided the next turn, will most likely fall on the +3/+3 decision. Removal of 1 card versus 5 is a bit easier to manage. Very expensive manawise which is good for a card like this. Flo00 - Timewhale Meeting: confusing to read at first. You can either get a lot of 4/4 blockers for 1 turn, or you would have to kick it (at least once) to have some attackers. You would have to pay 6 mana to have one whale that lasts two turns and can thus block then attack then vanish. Not the most desired outcome. Giving more time counters to all permanents is a plus though. Boogymanjunior - Strandfin Whales: Taking flavor inspiration from other cards like it is a good idea, ingeniousness aside. Nice whaley for blue. Costly, has flying, and some protection. You’d probably want to use the protection at the start of the opponent’s turn, as you can’t use it in response as you’re already targeted. That might be a bit too complex for just an uncommon card, though its power is very much an uncommon. I’m going to give the win to viriss Runner up is Boogymanjunior

Jartis "When ~ enters the battlefield, ..." ? Lol, yeah. It didn't start life as a permanent, and by the time it got there I wasn't thinking about it. I'm going to bed now, but I'll fix it tomorrow if I remember.

Huh, I was sure there would be one enchantment creature, what with all the stars in her hair. /shrug/ =) Flo00 I like the "all abilities" but feel bad that it misses out on all the EOB effects. =) Still there's some stuff this can do. Really depends on the set this ends up in. Jartis Yeah, it's still missing the EOB wording but I read it as if it had it the first time. I like the token create and the combat trigger combo, but i'm not a fan of "reveals their hand" after the first time... meh. A third sacrifice effect would've been useful as well. melono Nice overall balance. But the quote makes me wonder if "Creatures you control with flying" would've pushed this further with a reward for giving the savant flying. mosgon Mosgon, you're new here. Hello! A like the plainswalker approach. +2 feels good with a token that can also protect. -2 seems a little off for white. I do like the emblem. Kind of like Coat of Arms but just for your birds, though -10 might be too costly. {Winner} Winner melono with a nice balance of two creatures like the artwork, and the human part still feels like its own thing.

Greedy Bloodlord Creature - Vampire Noble At the beginning of each end step, if you lost life this turn, create a Treasure token. (It’s an artifact with “T, Sacrifice this artifact: Add one mana of any color.”), Pay 2 life: Draw a card. 2/3 Thanks for the catch viriss!
