Tesagk: Sorry to steal your idea, but this was too good to pass up. Anya, Mother of Flame Legendary Creature - Human Shaman Whenever a Phoenix creature you control dies, create a 0/2 red Egg creature token with defender and "When this creature dies, you may put a Phoenix creature card from your hand or graveyard onto the battlefield." , : Search your library for a Phoenix creature card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library. 2/2

Do you want a semi-natural birth or do you want to magically get a full-functioning preemie?

I wasn't expecting four colors to show up for this one!! Fermat Oh red! I normally think of reincarnate as green but I think it works well here in red. Making for some creepy eggs. The use of "exile it" and "conveted mana cost of 3 or less" make for a good mix that's not easy to abuse. I do think the cost might be a little too cheap. eshix Oh black! I like the "something born from carnage" idea with the variable cost allowing for larger monsters to appear. I wasn't sure about this being in black, but the animation and life lose do feel black overall. The picture cost doesn't match the example text cost, which looks like you were trying to find the right balance. Flo00 Oh white! This card looks annoying. =) I'm glad it isn't legendary. Once you get going with indestructible protectors you'll be set! I kinda wish the eggs had one more stage, just so they had something to do. Since using eggs to defend over and over feels a little off. ameisenmeister Oh green! Currently the egg can cradle itself which I think wasn't intended. And it can attack if it wants? But I like the idea of building up hatch counters to get a bigger option. And limiting the search to the top X is great. Xenozfan2 I don't associate Phoenix with eggs, so that feels a little off. But I can't think of another creature type to do this with without being broken, like dragons. Overall I love the feel of cycling the Phoenix back onto the battlefield since most of them are... annoying to bring back. And the pay to search really brings this to mythic rare. Which I like! Tesagk Like the "mother of flames" up above. This uses the temporary token has a holding place. But this one triggers too quickly for my taste with every creature I just lost while blocking on my opponents turn is now back on the battlefield. Also the current wording is a little messy since the temporary tokens also create tokens when they die. Making it pretty much impossible to kill a creature. But I do like the grand feel of "all your creatures are" that this is going for. Jartis Tribal! This one's cool. Build a dragon and you can get a head start! Nothing more to say. Boogymanjunior Also like the one above it, this has a great time trade-off. This doesn't need to be an enchantment. I think you can do all of this with a sorcery. Well, i'm not sure about the "you may cast" part. If Praetor's Grasp can do it... I kinda wish you didn't know what was in the egg right away. hehe, but this being a potential doom clock is pretty fun too.

Thanks for the win! I went back and forth a lot on the rarity and cost and wasn't sure I had struck a fine enough balance. Glad to see it paid off. Anyway, for the next challenge, I would like you all to use this piece: Artwork by Brian C. Hailes

He looked very hypnotized, so I thought that it is the Cave (lookes more of a Balm) that hypnotizes to leech off him.

Judging: { Flo00 }Interesting take on the mana dork. I specifically chose this piece because the creature didn't look like any established Magic creature types, so interesting choice to go with Shapeshifter. I don't know if I would have thought of that, but it makes sense. My only complaint is that giving it the mana abilities of nonbasic lands might be a bit powerful for two mana, but I think the rarity counteracts that. Great entry. { eshix }I like the idea, but I feel it could have been achieved more succinctly with the wording, "When enchanted creature would die, you may sacrifice another creature instead. " It gets most of the same effect, except it doesn't trigger ETBs. Part of the problem with the wording as is, though, is "return that card to the battlefield." That could be taken to refer to the creature you sacrificed, rather than the enchanted creature. While that may be the case, the fact that it could be read either way is too ambiguous, in my opinion. { Tesagk }Beast was probably the safest bet for a single creature type for that art. A possible 3/3 trampler for 2 is well within green's wheelhouse, and I don't know that we've ever seen that exact effect before, so that's cool. { viriss }I assume you meant "for each Mountain you control." While I like the idea of the second ability, I think it's a bit weird that you went with "can only be blocked by creatures with flying", instead of just giving it flying, or making it unblockable entirely. { hergusbergus }Could have been monoblack in line with Altar's Reap or Costly Plunder, but with making it repeatable, specifying a nontoken creature, and upping the rarity, I think you've made a fine addition to the sac-and-draw draw arsenal. { Boogymanjunior } I really like the idea of leaching mana from a tapped down creature, mechanically and lore-wise. The colors are both clearly represented, I think the rarity and cost work well considering recent freeze effects have had 3 CMC, and it would be a fun card to play in any format. Well done. {Winner}I liked a lot of these entries. Ultimately I'm gonna go with Boogymanjunior as the winner with Flo00 as a very close runner up. Fun and interesting mana abilities.

Cool, thanks for the win! Next picture: Art by Mateusz OzminskiI was often unsure that the picture options I see may be too narrow, but the challenges were always more varied than I worried about. So, well, as always, I'm curious what shows up.

The picture has an interesting level of weirdness. The well known images of standard fantasy knights juxtaposing with the strange frog creatures in the foreground. It's unclear whether the monsters are actually posing a threat but the horses shying away from them gives the viewer a slight feeling of unease, of not knowing what comes next. These are the feelings I wanted to capture in my card.

Expedition's End Instant Expedition's End costs less to cast if it targets a creature whose controller has drawn two or more cards this turn. Destroy target creature. They'd set out to solve the mysteries of the wilds. Their disappearance became one.

Tarn Lurker Creature - Frog Mutant Evolve (Whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control, if that creature has greater power or toughness than this creature, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature.)A the beginning of your end step, remove all +1/+1 counters from Tarn Lurker. If two or more counters are removed this way, draw two cards. 1/2

Judging has arrived! { melono } melono A new Squirrel Nest variation, quite nice. Normally I don't like land type specifications, but here I can imagine it as a part of a cycle or so. I kinda like how menace on a 1/1 serves no chump block hate role but only lets more pests through, very unnerving. Triggering the life loss to every tap is a good idea too. If the effect and mana cost would have been bigger, it would have stroke an imbalance, but at three mana you want to use both land's abilities equally, so that's fine. { viriss } viriss simple and nice, simply nice. Slower start for a better use of early-game critters in the late game. { kefke } kefke simple, but effective limited card. Kinda like how the people feel threatened (menace) while the toads look at each other (buff) in a chill way. { Tesagk } Tesagk A nice flavourful idea of a plague-ridden swamp harboring bigger plagues in it. Three small things and one big: paying on such a black-centric card feels strange, flies would be insects and the art neither shows flies nor (hints of) a big toad, but the card nevertheless cares about toads. And it's very overpowered considering you can spam the board with ridiculous amounts of tokens from the second turn on. { ameisenmeister } ameisenmeister a really nice card; good flavour and interesting effect, both for simple effectiveness and for a little build-around. {@flufflydeathbringer} fluffydeathbringer Nice, flavourful card with a good flavourtext to boot. The condition is rather uncommon, especially considering that often the targeted opponents would have control decks without many unprotected creatures, but that's okay. Not least because even without the condition it's not a bad card. { Flo00 } Flo00 Interesting card using evolve in an unusual way and comboing with other +1/+1 counter effects. Drawing two cards can seem a bit strong for a two-drop, but on the other hand most of the time only one creature at a time ETB and you have to use another card to get it to two counters on the same turn. Although the more I think about it, evolve doesn't seem to fit because a tiny 1/2 and even a 2/3 triggers for almost every creature anyway. Funnily, it's a good target for fluffydeathbringer 's card. { and the winner is...} ameisenmeister ! There was nothing to object, and your's was more on the cool unique side and fits well for straight-forward play as well as for build-arounds. Runner-ups are viriss and fluffydeathbringer.
