A red portal vmmd to life nearby. A kithkin wearing a lightly loaded backpack steps out, gently holding a pouch in her hands. She scans around to get her bearings, freezing at the site of the ruined building.
Her attention is drawn by Aki's movements, and she breaths a sigh of relief on seeing Lettie outside of the rubble. "Lettie! What on earth happened? Are y'all okay?"
Late to the Party Sorcery You may put a nonland permanent card from your hand with converted mana cost less than the greatest converted mana cost among permanents you control onto the battlefield. (guest attack)
Lettie was quietly irritated that Aki has dragged her back to reality, but is glad to be present now that Pidge has arrived. She almost smiles. She hopes Pidge will interpret the resulting expression as merely tired.
"There's hard...ly a scatch on me." A partial truth. "As for what happ...ened, something similar to when the THING tore apart your outpost. We won, though I doubt you could have guess...ed that." Though Pidge's priority is obviously no longer the delivery, Lettie takes the pouch, and inspects the ingredients, offering them to Aki to verify. Lettie knows that this was an obvious act against a ruinous backdrop, but it is becoming easier to speak, this way, dripping with irony as it is. She had always loved incorporating irony, since she first realized her role. "The Eternity Project volunteered to pay for the replacement, bless them. I didn't even have to say anything." Not that silence was Lettie's choice. "I would prefer not to live in a glass house, but given the circumstances, there's no sense refusing." The Worm that Feeds Creature — Worm Horror Flash The Worm that Feeds costs less to cast for each creature that died this turn. 6/6 I would be happy to fade away after one good day, and leave no corpse to feed the rot that is me.

"...It wasn't the THING, was it?" Pidge asked. She'd barely been conscious during the attack, what did happen to it? "Or...EPIC is payin' for it? Kei?" Pidge shook her head with a small laugh. "And after that, you're still stayin' on the Arena? You're a lot more resilient than I ever was. Or at least pullin' a lot better profits than I ever was."

Aki looks at Lettie for a second before sighing. "...I'm sorry, but... I have to go for now. There are some people out there in the void who want to see me." Aki winks at Lettie, a small tear rolling down here cheek as she vanishes in a flash of light.
Aki has left the boards and has been nulled... for now.

"...It wasn't the THING, was it? Or...EPIC is payin' for it? Kei?"
Lettie considers a full explanation, but decides she lacks the energy for one. "No, it was none of that. You haven't had an outpost in this place since Summer's second half, and Winter could be next week. You wouldn't really have any grounds for knowing what this was just now." She leans back slightly and stops looking at Pidge altogether. "It doesn't matter anymore."
"And after that, you're still stayin' on the Arena? You're a lot more resilient than I ever was. Or at least pullin' a lot better profits than I ever was."
Lettie snorts at the remark. The life infecting her indeed is resilient, though Pidge probably doesn't need to know those details. "Yes, I... have had to be resilient in my operations for a good year now. It's part of the reason why I have multiple locations at all times, though I doubt I could ever pull profits like yours... Pidge." Lettie wonders for a moment if Pidge might be implying that she's stubborn or foolish for staying. Then she notices that they are relatively alone, and that wondering won't be necessary. "If there's anything else to discuss, I'd like to take you up on your offer, so that we can say everything 'out loud', just for this moment. I am exhausted from this act." A gloved hand rubs at Pidge's chin. "I was tryin' to talk 'out loud', I'll try it again... hrm. I mean that I'm surprised you're still wanting to stay. The Arena is supposed to be dangerous, and it's hard to stay brave when you've lived through that danger on your own. I sure couldn't. But I've seen that you're braver than me. Even after, whatever caused all thise, you're still healin' people that need it." She thinks for a moment, trying to puzzle out how to say precisely what she means. "I hope that you're gettin' somethin' worth stayin' here for. Every week I worry a l'il, cause I don't wanna see a smoldering wreck where ya use ta be." She looks over to the house, "This ain't the first time it's happened to somebody on the Arena, and I don't think it'll be the last time."
"I just want ya to stay safe, alright? I'll keep makin' my rounds out here to keep ya that way as best I can."

"Yes, it's... helpful." Lettie stares at the ruins, at the Entelans, as she struggles for a long time to decide how she will prepare Pidge for the inevitable, without inviting questions she could not possibly answer. She twists her fingers when she finds her thoughts stalling. "Pidge, I don't know that I could keep shop set up anywhere but the Arena. It's a matter of survival. I don't know if you can believe it, but the past few months have been... tame compared to the... mess I've run into before. I... don't know if I'm lucky or unlucky. There's... some...thing that seems to be keeping me... alive, but it doesn't stop things like this from hurting everyone around me. Sometimes I try... to head off any trouble ahead of time, but then I'm the one hurting others."
She had thought she would have to fight back tears, but is now taken aback by the hollowness creeping through her. "I know why this happens. It's... more than just business, and it's not something that either of us can fix... and there's no point discussing it. Have you read the Seer's Parables? Particularly the verse 'Claw', about the Deity of Scars? I can't ever be safe. I don't think I'll ever be able to stop fighting until I die." Lettie shudders when she considers the possibility that like the Deity, she might just persist for all eternity.
"I'm sorry. You've been a wonderful friend Pidge, and I wish I could be one for you... that I were anyone but myself." "I know. That's the problem."

I have colluded, killed, and committed crimes against nature itself. When I took upon this name, I vowed that I would never turn away from suffering, least of all that which I cause. Lettie wants to scream at Pidge that she's a murderer, a monster, but what willpower she had remaining has been eroded by sickly sweet faith. Lettie can only shake her head and mumble, "All the same, I'm sorry that I must worry you so. Any day could be my last."
She sits silent for some time, contemplating Pidge's offer, and weighing her simpler desires against the knowledge that this charade can't continue forever. "There's no sense trying to fill an endless abyss." She stands, still staggering somewhat, and gathers her belongings. "As last time, I would be grateful if you sheltered me, and left it at that."Fomorian Ascetic Creature — Giant Hexproof Fomorian Ascetic can only attack alone. Fomorian Ascetic can't be blocked by more than one creature. 6/5 "Even before the Bitter Starfall, we were ensnared by violence."
Lettie chooses to be alone, in the end.
All Alone — Seems almost weak compared to stuff like Curse of the Nightly Hunt (since a player can just choose All, unless you get them with a pacifism), but I love the idea and name. 9/10

Where a house once stood near the bakery, there is now rubble. The root of a great sprawling system, it has been severed, but its creator lives, attending the surviving shops branching throughout the Arena and Multiverse. A new house will be built soon, and until then, Lettie Wormwood continues to ply her trade. Though the last vestiges of the burns beneath her eyes have vanished, they are quickly being replaced by horrid dark circles. Despite that, she seems lighter, in a sense, more energetic, as though she has found the answer to a dilemma that she has faced for far too long. Anyone can see, however, that the answer has only brought her grim resolve, and not happiness.

Flicker is usually something you want to repeat though, so I'm glad to see it on a rebound. 8/10 "Worry not; I've simply walked a long way, both down roads and across aether, and need something to keep me walking a bit longer. From what you say, I'm pretty close. And the temporal anomalies would explain... well, a lot, but in particular why my sense of direction's not so good here." Shortly thereafter, the traveler leaves the shop, with less silver in their purse, but more spring in their step and knowledge in their mind. Everwake Sentinel — I appreciate your answering one literary reference with another. As for the Sentinel—eh, it's yet another twin piece, and comparing Champion of Lambholt it's correctly balanced, but nothing exciting. 8/10

When Haia arrives at the same place as every other time, she notices that there was now a distinct lack of a house. She hadn't gotten the chance to see the damaged house, as Entelan salvagers had moved in quickly and dismantled it, leaving the remaining wood in tiny pieces scattered around the clearing to act as a fertilizer for the remaining land. She lightly reaches into her pocket for her magic, grabbing at the aether in the small vials she was carrying, and gets straight to work. A desk of condensed air, visible only by the marginal bit darker it is compared to the rest of the world, holds the sketchbook she was carrying. Her eyes take a colorless shimmer from her Litaran magic and she starts drawing into the book, each of her pencil strokes being reflected in the real world by light blue line of magic.Sketch Instant Search your library for a noncreature nonland card, exile it, then shuffle your library. If she turns to find the source, she will see her client standing behind her, a mere shopkeeper, comical in comparison, chewing a bite of muffin. test Madam Wormwood,
Madam Lysenda has recently fallen ill, and I believe Yorick is to blame.
She looks no different and claims to feel perfectly well, but she eats less, sleeps poorly, and mutters to herself often as though addressing a voice I cannot hear. The source of this illness remained a mystery until I cleaned her room this morning and discovered Yorick's journal hidden under a floorboard.
On the cover is written that the journal "may be" cursed, and the inside cover lists three rules for interaction: no physical contact for more than twenty minutes at a time, store out of view and away from other books, don't look at any words or diagrams that seem to move. I can make no sense of any other writing in the journal, but as a world-walker perhaps you can read this foreign script. You need merely ask and I shall send it to you, in case the key to breaking its enchantment lies within.
I know curses are not your specialty but if anyone can heal Lysenda, I hope it to be you.
Your loyal servant,
AlsyYour Words Betray YouScheme When you set this scheme in motion, for each opponent, exile up to one noncreature, nonland card in that player's graveyard. For as long as those cards remain exiled, you may cast them and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast them.

It's a pretty thing to ask such help from a cursed woman. Lettie has serious doubts that she can do anything for Lysenda, but she considers the benefits of at least trying. This is convenient; I was already hoping for some insight on "Yorick" from this journal, and Alsy has already done the work of wresting it from Lysenda's collection. This will be entirely favourable for me, unless I catch the same curse. In preparation for her own precautions, she reviews the warnings and symptoms. Poor eating habits and affected sleep could be indicative of poor attenuation—I should know. She could be suffering from supernatural fixation of some kind; it would be consistent with muttering, but so would possession. The outlying fact however is the precaution against proximity to books. Could it be a form of cursed knowledge in and of itself? Simple contagion of the curse between appropriate foci? Lettie already knows from the tale of the Fallen Star that some knowledge can carry harm inherent to itself. But if this were the case, wouldn't the warnings have been more broadly construed? Without further insight into the text, it would be impossible to know. In the case of fixation, my own curse should be sufficient to counteract lack of sleep or nourishment. As for possession, I'll have to hope that the clutches of whatever binds me to this rotting life prove more powerful.
In the end, Lettie accepts the offer, and follows the precautions by storing the journal beneath the floorboards at one of the cat sanctuaries, far from any books, and only reading the journal in short bursts of at most 15 minutes between the demands of her work. She's aware of her own shortcomings with her inability to ignore certain things, so she immediately closes the book whenever she reaches a page containing an image, and only proceeds under the influence of a relaxant, so that it is difficult to focus on the image.
Dampen the Nerves Instant Exile any number of target cards from a single graveyard. Create a Vial token. (It's an artifact with ", Sacrifice this and another permanent: Draw a card. Activate this ability only during your turn.") Your Words Betray You — I'm not very familiar with Archenemy's schemes, but this seems notably weak compared to something like The Dead Shall Serve, both in terms of availability and value. 7/10

Arcanis considered the establishment with curiosity. It was odd to find a shop in the ruined area surrounding it. Someone must care about it enough to keep it running. But that was neither here nor there, for Arcanis had a problem. He didn't have any money. He was relatively new to this place so he wouldn't risk his neck trying to steal anything. He could tell whatever plane of existence he was on was teaming with magic power. He should probably figure out the vernacular as well. Sighing he began to pat himself down as he approached the shop finding a couple things he might be able to trade for some information. test Dampen the Nerves: Looks like a useful sideboard card in Limited. Exiling everything at common seems rough for decks overly reliant on the graveyard, but I could see it in a set where several archetypes each have a little bit of graveyard synergy. 8/10.Most of the journal is written in illegible shorthand, but the readable portions describe the customs and daily life of a Kithkin clachan on Lorwyn. The writer appears particularly interested in their language, superstitions, and especially the nature of their thoughtweft; he develops a number of hypotheses about "meaning density" and "realization vectors" which prove impossible to follow. Images show up on roughly one in eight pages, evenly divided between crude sketches and indecipherable diagrams.
Around forty pages in, the writer brings up an abandoned well at the edge of the clachan's territory. After this point the text appears increasingly often to shift in place, first in the corner of Lettie's vision, then closer to the center of the page. Letters blur and writhe like worms partially obscured by dirt, reshaping themselves into new words.
It's difficult to look away, almost as if they want to be read.We Know What You DidScheme When you set this scheme in motion, choose target opponent. Create an X/X black Nightmare creature token with menace, where X is the number of cards that player owns in their graveyard and in exile. That creature attacks that player each combat if able.

She raises an eyebrow, and given enough time, comments, "Anything that can be appraised here will be accepted. While you're searching, is there anything I can help you with?" If Arcanis can sense the magical power of his immediate surroundings, he might notice that there are traces of power throughout the vials on display, the taxidermied skins, and a surprising amount of compounded power from an ongoing multitude of self-similar spells being cast surrounding the otherwise plain shopkeeper, but offset in the unseen direction that leads to the blind eternities. Strange Bauble — A slightly weakened version of a card restricted in vintage is a good enough route, if otherwise basic. Note that in the remaster of tempest, Petal was uncommon. 7/10Stepping across the threshold, Arc sensed, with all of his senses, the thickness of the magic in the shop. The taste and smell in the air was like that of a room full of people each with a unique aura. He still had no way of evaluating those sensations but he knew that nothing seemed normal here. His newfound existence also seemed to resonate with this place, though he couldn’t put a finger on why. His previous life was steeped in a similar but far different energy. His hand closed around a small bauble in his pocket, doubtful he would have any use for it here, less of course than what he could purchase for it. In his line of work information was the difference between life and death, and he felt very mortal right about now. Arc placed the shiny object on the countertop for the shopkeeper's consideration. Grace and courtesy were tools he was well versed in, if not local customs. “Please, I’d like to buy some information.” Arc glanced around at the curios in his general vicinity not even pretending he knew what they were for. “I am a traveler and I know very little of this place. Something drew me here though, something kindred. Can you tell me about this?” Arcanis gestured as if waving his hand through smoke or fluid, trying to grasp the incorporeal substance. He felt foolish, but he needed to clearly portray his ignorance. Though ignorance was not synonymous with helplessness. And as he stood in the shop he began to grasp a bit of nuance to the power and flow throughout the shop. He begun by separating out the individual signatures and feels to their respective sources. Wary Professional Creature- Human Ninja Ninjutsu When Wary Professional deals combat damage to a player, return an artifact that player controls to it's owner's hand. 2/2 Propagation Dish- First time evaluating a card so bear with me. I think this would be better at just one more to cast. The "Artifacts you control" ability is a pretty cool ability but this also brings another artifact with it to the party. so it's a bit strong at 2 CMC (I disagree with the MV change). I do love the aesthetic of the card though matching the apothecary idea and Oozes consuming an artifact. 9/10

test Dampen the Nerves: Looks like a useful sideboard card in Limited.
Lettie hasn't forgotten the warning, but finds herself unable to tear her gaze away. It's a familiar feeling to her, of screaming at one's self to do something, but unable to act. Poor attenuation can have its advantages, however. Lettie starts mentally recounting the plants she knows, which ones she included in her alchemical process for the melancholic blood, hoping to happen upon a step that she can't quite remember, so that she can ride the impulse to immediately refresh her memory using her notes tucked into her primary ledger, stored far away from the journal. Then she remembers the bastard, and gives in to the urge to fantasize about tearing his flesh from his bones, of smashing his skull to dust against a railing, and hearing his gurgled pleas for mercy. Anything but fully comprehending what she is being forced to read. With that and the relaxant, what part of a curse can she avoid? Tears of Hatred Instant Destroy target tapped creature. You lose 3 life. I won't forget what you did.
We Know What You Did — This hopes to get four or five hits at least, comparing to other token schemes. That's just over what you might expect from the graveyard, so I hope it's good enough. Good flavour, enough that it was incorporated into the response text. 9/10

She normally doesn't charge for directions, but with the payment already on the counter, she takes it and begins explaining. "You are on a plane of existence known as The Arena. Here, both space and time will contrive to have you meet others, as you have been drawn to meet me. If you did not come here intentionally, it's possible that you are not yet aware of what you now are. Now, more specifically, you are in the shop of an apothecary; that would be me. I sell potions, plants, reagents, poisons, and excess stock. I operate many of these throughout this Arena. Does that sufficiently answer your question?" She doesn't seem to have understood what Arcanis was asking; from her perspective, he had seemed to be waving his arms about the place, as though gesturing to the surroundings.
With more time to examine the magical signatures, it's clear that some of the potions are bottled spells, waiting to be released, prepared by the treatment and arrangement of various materials with an apothecary's magic; almost certainly the shopkeeper's. The taxidermied animals seem to be enchanted with rudimentary animation that allows them to perceive visitors; the animation can be briefly amplified to animate the entire being to act. The alligator could drop from its vantage point jaws-first if it were animated now as such. The self-similar magic just beyond the veil, however, proves far more puzzling. There are more instances of the spell than can be counted, and comparing the mass to a liquid or vapor is indeed apt. Each instance seems to rapidly cycle through a large set of distinct states, propagating itself with every repetition. Near the edges of the effect, a chaotic force, likely the churning blind eternities, disrupts the pattern before it can be completed. Comparing to the potions, the process is likely alchemical, but is almost certainly too complex and foreign for Arcanis to fully understand. Where it passes through the nonlinear geometry of the blind eternities, it can be seen, looping back towards the taxidermied animals, seemingly linking them with the apothecary. Lastly, with enough time spent examining it, Arcanis might notice that the mass seems to pulse like a slowly beating heart. Megrim Reaper Artifact Creature — Scarecrow As Megrim Reaper enters the battlefield, choose a nonland card name. , : Target player reveals their hand and discards a card with the chosen name. Activate only during your turn. 2/1 Naming whatever Professional would swap with. Could also be used for somewhat unimpressive synergy. Your evaluation style is acceptable.
Wary Professional — A bit narrow, though I recognize it's a response to the response. Keep in mind that as the attacker, you don't have to respond to me, though doing these back and forths be fun. It seems somewhat weak for its cost; with this much value deferred, and with the opponent's choice, you could probably broaden the possible types. 8/10
