Embrace the Change
"I made the mistake, so I have to fix this."
Set Name: Nothric
Set Code: NOT
Cards: 286 (20 Basic lands, 105 Commons, 85 Uncommons, 60 Rares, 16 Mythic rares)
Vunik stood at the edge of the balcony, hands on the cold wrought iron railing as he looked over the carefully manicured gardens below him. He took a deep breath, the cold air stinging the back of his throat as he did so. Winter had come, and with a vengeance for the tempered summer. It wouldn't be long before the flowers and shrubs below him died, unable to handle the weather.
Letting go of his breath, he turned and walked into his room, closing the door behind him. A fire flickered against a far wall, pushing back the cold air that he'd let in. He walked over to his desk, but didn't sit in. He looked over the papers, feeling a tinge of irritation. Running an estate included a lot more paperwork than he had expected, and it only ever seemed to get worse.
He turned away from the desk, pushing those responsibilities until another day. He left his room, entering the cold stone corridor, lit by steady magical lights. As he did, he nearly ran into a tall, tan-skinned woman.
She stopped quickly, standing up straight and taking the posture a noble like him demanded. She didn't speak.
"What is it, Cordelian," Vunik said, rubbing his temple. "Is someone here to negotiate a treaty or agreement for something-or-other again?"
"No, Lord Ayra," she said, smiling and bowing slightly to him. "That device you built, out on top of the north tower? One of the attendants has reported a spike in its readings. Large ones."
He blinked, processing what she said. "What? Something registered on it?"
Cordelian frowned. "Uh... yes. Is that a bad thing?"
Vunik felt a smile creep onto his face. "No, it's a wonderful thing. Cordelian, you're in charge of the estate while I'm gone." He walked by her, heading towards the staircase at the end of the corridor, resisting the urge to run. For a surge of energy to be large enough to trigger the sensor... Something big was happening in the Multiverse.
"While you're gone?" Cordelian still stood where he'd left her, calling after him. "Where could you possibly be going?"
He paused at the threshold of the stairwell, and turned his head back to her. "The sensor is designed to read across planes, Cordelian. I'm going to whatever place triggered it."
