"Very well, then. Lead the way." The android gestures in the direction Rixos was walking before he saw her, despite having been facing the other way when he approached. "And I'm... saints, it doesn't matter now, does it? I'm VIA. What's left of her, anyway. There was a mishap when I tried to leave."
Identity Cache Artifact Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, you may exile it. If you do, ~ becomes a 2/2 artifact creature with that card's colors and creature types. When ~ dies, if it's a creature, return the last card exiled with it to its owner's hand. Rixos and VIA go together to the city. After a few hours, it becomes visible. "There it is. I don't think we should make the last steps together. I need to be discreet and you... well, you draw attention. Don't take it as an offense. Before I leave, do you need something? If you don't have money you can pay me next time we see."Farewell Sorcery Exile target creature. "Our paths diverge here."I suppose this can happen before both Rixos and VIA get to Rudara's city, right? Identity Cache: Nice way to circunvent the fact that you can't desing artifact creatures! I honestly like it, even though the copying colors and creature types won't be relevant most of the time. 8/10

Rixos makes a slight bow as a gesture of farewell. "I wish you a good life, my lady." Then, Rixos enters the city, cloaked and unrecognizable. Cloaking Device: Nice, I don't know what to say. 8/10

Rebirth - Part NULL
{You cannot escape your past} There is a space on the Arena where a living gate once stood: large, flat, and utterly barren. Until recently, those were its only distinguishing features, but now a small river trickles through it.
The source of the river cannot be discerned. The water is so clear as to be nearly invisible, and the cracked stone on its banks remains as dry as ever. It is easy to walk through the area without ever noticing the river at all. But those who do may begin to notice other sights around them: massive buildings plunging deep into the earth, robot drones patrolling the skies, humanoids and cyborgs and spirits of limitless varieties milling about. An echo of AKHATAR-that-was, just before its last mistake.
And if anyone who found themselves in this realm were to leave it again, they might feel as though nothing had happened at all.VIA has spent 1 Skill Point to unlock Lands!
{But maybe you can change it}VIA has not spent 1 Skill Point to unlock Lands. Yet.

// Leira takes notes as she walks. This river may not be real, but it exists, and that's good enough for Leira to follow it to see where it leads.
Seiva, please be on high alert for Miss Via. She and all signs of her are absent from her post.I like this idea a lot, but there's enough restrictions on it that it could probably be a single mana similar to Visions of Beyond. 7/10 Along the River Enchantment Whenever a creature you control with power 2 or less deals combat damage to a player, put a +1/+1 counter on it.

"Hello?""Good day, Mister or Miss. I'm looking for a woman named Via.""Is there a woman named Via around here?"// Leira asks questions to various people in the crowd, looking for anyone who might even notice her presence or understand her language. This city reminds her of Mirora's most developed districts.Lost in the Crowd is probably fine. Time Ebb isn't exactly a good card and this has a fairly sizeable downside. 9/10 Daunting Search Sorcery Tap all creatures you control. Put two +1/+1 counters on each of them.

WindyDelcarlo Daunting Search: Seems useful in go-wide midrange. Strong, but seriously vulnerable to board wipes. A nice clean rare. 9/10.Leira’s questions go ignored by most of the passerby, and a few of them pass through her as if she isn’t even there. But slowly, the jostling of the crowd lessens, and it begins to thin, leaving a berth of several feet around her.
A glimpse overhead explains why.
A hawk-sized metal construct, vaguely resembling a red-eyed moth, floats above her. Its speech is incomprehensible, but somehow, she can understand the gist of what it’s saying. “Pardon me, Citizen. Your Frame ID is not accessible. Please display it, or if it has been misplaced, please follow me to the nearest Assistance Booth to earn a new one.”Assistance Booth Artifact , : Untap target artifact or creature. , : Target artifact or creature doesn't untap during its controller's next untap step.

Where in the hell... "Yeah, I need one and don't have one."
// Leira follows the omochao moth to obtain a new identification to replace the one she probably didn't previously have.
Assistance Booth is fun as yet another CMC 2 Time Vault piece. Otherwise seems perfectly fine. 9/10
Identify Sorcery Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. That creature becomes legendary for as long as it has a +1/+1 counter on it.

WindyDelcarloIdentify: This seems like it could have memory issues (unless every +1/+1 counter card in the set makes stuff legendary, which is a big ask) and it doesn't do much unless the legendary theme is very prominent. It's an interesting concept but I'm not sure it's feasible as-is. 7/10.The drone leads Leira to a small, partially enclosed orange kiosk on the sidewalk. A screen on an elevated platform within it displays numerous icons: a faceless silhouette, an intersecting pair of rings... a red 'X' begins flashing on the screen before she can identify any more."Have you changed your face recently?" Asks the drone. "The system doesn't recognize it."The 'X' gives way to ten round circles against a blue background. "Don't worry, we have other biometrics. Please put your fingertips directly on the spaces provided."Surveillance Database Artifact , : The next time target creature attacks or blocks this turn, draw a card. If that creature is legendary, draw two cards instead. "That one's more than just another face in the crowd."

I follow its directions, not expecting much to happen. "Do... do you have a system for someone that hasn't been here before?"I like that this can try to deter attacks but is probably more likely to just target your own stuff. 8/10 New Faces Instant Exile target nonland permanent, then return it to the battlefield under its owner's control. If it was the target of another spell or ability, you gain life equal to its converted mana cost.

WindyDelcarloNew Faces: Not entirely sure flickering Auras is normally allowed at common due to complexity issues (the only example I could find is Teferi's Time Twist, which returns at end step) but maybe it's just something Wizards hasn't done yet and I'm seeing a rule where there isn't one. In any case, I like flicker effects and this seems like a pretty good one. 9/10.As expected, a red 'X' fills the screen again."Not here before?" The drone asks. "That depends. Where exactly are you from?"Tracking Drone Artifact Creature - Drone Flying At the beginning of each end step, if a nonland permanent entered the battlefield under an opponent's control this turn, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. 1/1

As no one else should be, Leira is unsurprised that it didn't find her information. "I'm from Entela. As EPIC's Ancient Historian, I'm investigating the disappearance of a woman named Via." That's what happened, right? She disappeared? Not "looking for a threat named Via"?Tracking Drone seems fine. Reminds me of Managorger Hydra, which I like a lot, but not being able to control it is really awkward. 7/10 The Search for VIA Legendary Enchantment - Development At the beginning of your upkeep, put a development counter on The Search for VIA, then each player who developed The Search for VIA searches their library with an artifact card with converted mana cost less than or equal to the number of development counters on The Search for VIA, reveal it, put it into their hand, then shuffle their library. Develop 3--Sacrifice an artifact (Sacrifice an artifact: Note your name and put a development counter on this. Any player may develop this as a sorcery if there are less than 3 counters on this.)

WindyDelcarloThe Search for VIA: It's weird that this develops on its own but you also need to actually develop it to get its benefit, and that it's roughly symmetrical against artifact-heavy decks but effectively one-sided otherwise. Also, that's a lot of tutoring for a 3-mana card, which makes me worried that games involving this might tend to slow way down and play out more or less the same way. 7/10.The drone says nothing for long moments."You are... from another world?" it finally asks, excitement creeping into its voice. "My apologies, Historian of Entela! It's not often our humble plane is graced with a visitor."A thunderous roar echoes through the streets, and a truck-sized vehicle vaguely resembling an iridescent manta ray descends from the sky. A hole appears in its side, directly facing Leira, and a short ramp slides out of the opening."On behalf of the Most Sane and Necessary Empire of AKHATAR, please allow me to extend you our warmest possible welcome. We formally invite you to the Imperial Palace, and an audience with Empress VIA herself. If anyone on Kiphis can help you with your investigation, it's her."Suspicious Invitation Artifact ~ enters the battlefield tapped. Okay, Leira. You're Entela's diplomat here now. Don't do anything wrong. Say what needs to be said. You're fine.
"Please," I say with a nod. "I would speak with her."
Suspicious Invitation is a five mana murder that kills anything, which is probably fine? 8/10
(Leira finds that if this is the place that send a device to her, it probably isn't hostile. Also I think there's not a card to accurately attack here. If you intend for an attack-like thing during the travel, you could attack me, if not you can respond here and I'll attack after knowing what exactly happens on the travel)

WindyDelcarloFrom the inside, the sky-vehicle is transparent as glass, but thankfully insulated from the bitter cold of the street. Leira floats above a vast and colorful metropolis, augmented with charts and descriptions appearing above important buildings and historical sites. These additions are written in a bizarre language full of intricate loops and swirls, but she somehow understands them anyway. This mushroom-like tower once housed the servers of the machine-saint YLDR; that building resembling a bleached coral reef is some sort of refinery, and yes, it's supposed to be on fire; that immense palace complex bristling with corkscrew spires is the Imperial Palace, and you have arrived.
The manta settles to the ground just outside the building, and the drone leads Leira down a series of twists and turns and elevators until she stands before a towering circular archway leading to a cavernous hall. At the end of the hall is a throne of marble and obsidian. Atop the throne sits a young girl.
"Welcome, Historian of EPIC." Her voice, though quiet, carries easily through the long hallway. "Leira, isn't it? What brings you to my home?"

WindyDelcarlo Locate: Not a fan of tutors in general, but this one has an intriguing twist and strong flavor. 10/10.The girl smiles back at her. “Well, I don’t think this is the place you were meant to visit. But you’re welcome here anyway.”
The hall seems shorter now, the throne smaller, and the air slightly warmer. Leira can hear a faint crashing of waves in the distance.
“Although now I’m curious what the device’s first message was.”Unexpected Inference Sorcery Choose a nonland card name. Target opponent reveals their hand and discards all cards with that name, then draws a card for each card discarded this way. Draw a card.

"Hm..." Weird. Did she not send it, then? "How were you aware there was a first message? If you don't mind me asking, of course, it just seems like a rather... strange thing to be aware of.""To help with my investigation, do you mind if I ask where I am, and why the device would have not sent me here?"(So I designed my attack before reading your defense. That's amazing.) I think this being a cabal therapy ought to be black, even replacing the draw. Still is hand attack, after all. 6/10 Lost Locations Sorcery Exile target nonbasic land. Its controller reveals their hand and exiles all cards that share a name with that land. Then that player draws a card for each card exiled from their hand this way.

WindyDelcarlo (re: Unexpected Inference - I was thinking of it as a weaker version of the Vendilion Clique effect, though I suppose in retrospect a one-off rare is somewhat iffy precedent) Lost Locations: 3-mana land destruction that can also remove lands from hand seems scarily oppressive, even if this does replace them. I could maybe see this in a straight-to-modern/legacy product, but it's probably too expensive for either. 8/10.The girl shrugs. "Context. If I told you that, I'd first give you a suggested course of action and a priority rating. Probably a location too, if I had any idea where it was."The floor ripples like water, and the hallway momentarily seems to tilt in multiple directions at once."As for where you are, I don't know myself. My home is... gone. This is just a pale imitation." She pauses in thought. "So am I, for that matter."The floor goes still again. The girl sags wearily on her throne."I'm surprised I didn't tell you I moved to the plane of Azoria. That's where you'd go to talk to the real me. Not that I'd recommend it."
Pale Imitation Instant Draw a card for each card that was put into your graveyard or exile from your hand this turn.

Post by WindyDelcarlo on Jun 3, 2019 7:59:56 GMT
That's... interesting. "As a matter of fact, it appears that you are not there, and are instead somewhere on either this plane or Volaria. I'm not actually sure." I bring up the first message and read it aloud, now that it doesn't look like this is the exact version of Via I'm looking for. "INCOMPLETE INFORMATION – ROGUE/ESCAPED ENTITY ON YOUR PLANE – DETAIN/CAPTURE IF POSSIBLE – HIGH COMPENSATION/CRITICAL." Who's sustaining this augmentation? It seems they're running out of energy for it. "I was placed on alert in case this "entity" was hostile, but these kinds of interactions are my job with EPIC."
Pale Imitation seems like it wants to be rare, given that Shadow of the Grave is the same but different. Otherwise cool variant. 7/10
Go Rogue Sorcery Target creature gets +1/+1 and gains menace until end of turn. Whenever that creature deals combat damage to a player this turn, you draw a card and lose 1 life.

"Who could've sent a message to us to look for the real version of you?"
But I Don't Want to Die is perfectly fine (it's a glorified fog) but the name is really awkward as a card name. It's definitely more of a flavor text. 7/10
Interplanar Protection Instant If target creature would die this turn, instead exile it and you may cast it for as long as it remains exiled.

WindyDelcarlo Interplanar Protection: I like this sort of ability, but since it only targets one creature it’s basically a Graceful-Reprieve-to-hand that can sometimes hit enemy creatures if you’re in the right colors. Could probably stand to cost just . 8/10.The girl sighs. "I know about EPIC, Leira. And not to insult your culture’s technological advancement or anything, but I doubt they know how to copy memory from a spark, let alone paste it." Her eyes widen fractionally. "Do they?"
"Anyway, either AKH or AKH VIA sent the message. I wouldn’t have done it on my own, and I don’t know if the gate still even has their copy of me. If they do, they might have to kill the backup to get our spark back." She shudders.
"Oh, and there’s no 'real' version of me. Or, if there was, it died when I was eight."Essence Aggregator Artifact Whenever a creature you control leaves the battlefield, you may pay . If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature.

Copy memory from a spark... That's...
Wait. "I... I might. There is someone in Entela that has a powerful memory spell, if you don't mind me contacting her. She's not strictly EPIC but we have access to her."At her acceptance, I lift my transceiver. "IPCC, Master Sara.""Hey," she immediately replies. She's really quick about that, isn't she?
"How does your Erasure Process work?""Uh..." Master Sara's voice trails off, and her eventual response is very strict, as though I had done something massively wrong. "Why are you asking this, Leira? You understand that Erasure Process has specific laws--"
"I want to use it to copy the memory's from a planeswalker's spark before they're lost forever." There's silence on the other end. I thought that'd do it. "The planeswalker in question is an Empress Via of the Empire of AKHATAR."
"I... I could do that. I need enough aether for two casts and about twenty-four hours, but I could do it."Essence Aggregator seems perfectly fine. Limited playable and stuff. 8/10 Erasure Process Instant Search your library for an instant or sorcery card with converted mana cost 3 or less and reveal it. If you controlled a blue and red legendary creature or planeswalker as you cast this spell, you may cast it without paying its mana cost. Otherwise, put it into your hand. Then shuffle your library.

// Master Sara pauses for a few seconds. "No side effects for taking them, assuming you don't attempt to harm me or push against the spell. Same with inserting them into something that's not alive. Giving a full person's memories to another living person could cause a personality conflict, but shouldn't kill them unless something special happens. Which is why I wouldn't be taking them directly. I would be copying them into Deep Storage, and then copying them out of Deep Storage into wherever you want them to be."It was originally designed, over a thousand years ago now, to destroy memories, to isolate them from the person. So, you know, it got called "erasure" because it was supposed to erase them. Which is why the spell, when used for that purpose, is highly illegal. However, the same spell can be used to just, separate the memories off, to insert them into another thing capable of holding memory, or to repair the broken memories of another person that was damaged by erasure."I'm really wary of Rhystic effects that're this capable of being relevant at this low. Worst case scenario it untaps land for counterspell or makes them pay mana into it every spellcast and it costs 2? I'd like it at a mana more in colorless, I think. 7/10 Memory Replication Sorcery Exile target instant or sorcery card from your graveyard. Copy that card twice. You may cast the copies. (You still pay their costs.)

Post by Parasign on Jun 4, 2019 2:52:57 GMT
WindyDelcarlo Memory Replication: I like the double-flashback concept. I'm not sure it's worth it at this cost, but then two mana might be too cheap. Maybe make it an instant? 9/10.The girl frowns. "Still seems dangerous. And, like I said, these memories are... important. I think I can be removed from them without ruining anything, but I'm not sure. Or they might make a new copy of me, which would just make the problem worse." She sighs again. "I'm not opposed to it. But only if you give me your word that the 'entity' you're looking for will not be returned to the gate." Never to Meet Again Sorcery Choose two target creatures. Exile one of them until the other leaves the battlefield. (Yes, another awkward card name but I just couldn't resist . I realize there might be memory issues, though Constricting Sliver suggests exiling creatures under other creatures at uncommon can potentially be okay.)
