Thanks for the win Idea! Sabretooth Stalker was my initial idea for the mechanic. It felt too limited-warping at for a common. I was back and forth between common or uncommon. It loses its essence if you can't drop it first turn, so yeah one mana uncommon seemed best. For the next challenge, I would like to see a keyword associated with traveling.

The keyword I'm bringing you today is Going on an expedition. Goes on an expedition: this/that creature joins an expedition on the battlefield or starts a new expedition.Going on an expedition is a mechanic similar to venturing into the dungeon. It brings out a specific kind of card from out of play, and you go through sections of it to gain various relatively small benefits. With this kind of mechanic, the sheer variety of effects that could be found in a dungeon or in this case on an expedition, without being tied to any given theme or color, means that it might not to be wise to expect a specific interaction between the creature and the expedition other than in both existing. As such, in most cards outside of the expeditions themselves, the main variety would come from the various ways of triggering the expedition. That being said, there are some key differences between dungeons and expeditions. The rules for expeditions are as follows: - Creatures, not you, go on expeditions. They start an expedition when they bring a new expedition onto the battlefield. They join an expedition when they join one which is already on the battlefield. They are in an expedition so long as they've started or joined an expedition and both cards remain on the field. They leave an expedition when this expedition ends.
- The same way dungeons have rooms, expeditions have quests. However, while venturing into the dungeon progresses the dungeon to the next room, expeditions instead progress by completing the conditions in the current quest. When that condition is met, the expedition progresses to one of the next quests. When the last condition is met, the expedition ends.
- Unless a timeframe is mentioned (such as "this turn"), you start counting to meet the conditions of a quest only once you've started the quest. Thus the quests of each individual expedition are only active one at a time and are never simultaneously completed, though in some cases they might be completed immediately following the previous (such as if the condition is not an action but a state and you're already in that state by the time you start the quest).
- You can have any number of active expeditions, and any number of creatures on any given expedition, though you may only have one expedition with the same name on the battlefield, and each creature can only be in one expedition at a time.
I also think rather than using the dungeon template, expeditions might use their own template. I, however, lack the time or skills to make a whole new template, so... Yeah I make do with what I have. Now, while many expeditions will function similarly to dungeons, being connected to specific creatures means that you can mention those creatures for effects. Creatures on a given expedition will be occasionally mentioned or even targeted for the conditions or benefits of the expedition. Also like dungeons, some expeditions will be simpler and more linear, while others will give you choice. Often benefits and conditions will play into one another to make it easier to meet conditions or otherwise more in line with the kind of plan you'd be going for if you're meeting those conditions anyway. Despite what I mentioned earlier about the source of variety in the mechanic itself, there are other ways to interact with it, though they may at times have less to do with the keyword itself. One of the most clear ways is to send creatures that ordinarily wouldn't have the mechanic on expeditions themselves. Another is to mess with the rules for expeditions.

My entry is a mix of the Whammy deck - MTG Wiki (fandom.com) and Planechase. I’m not sure if the wording is correct, so help is welcome. Chart (If there is no active Terrain deck, shuffle one and then Traverse. Otherwise, you may Traverse to a new Terrain. A Terrain deck consists of a Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest.) /// Traverse (You may move your current Position to an adjacent space. If there is no Terrain in that space, take the top card of the Terrain deck and place it in that place.) Dauntless Scout Creature – Merfolk Scout (U) Chart (If there is no active Terrain deck, shuffle one and then Traverse. Otherwise, you may Traverse to a new Terrain. A Terrain deck consists of a Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest.) Whenever you traverse to a new terrain, You may have Dauntless Scout gain your choice of Haste or First Strike until the end of the turn. 2/2 Bog-Wraith’s Wrath Sorcery Chart (If there is no active Terrain deck, shuffle one and then Traverse. Otherwise, you may Traverse to a new Terrain. A Terrain deck consists of a Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest.) Destroy target creature. This spell costs less if the current terrain is a swamp.

kefke take my words with a grain of salt, but I believe the wording for this type of mechanic when referring to a card being flipped onto the front side, is “When ~ is turned face-up”.

kefke take my words with a grain of salt, but I believe the wording for this type of mechanic when referring to a card being flipped onto the front side, is “When ~ is turned face-up”. I'd normally agree, but I believe that for the sake of abilities like that of Overgrown Islet, that care if the cost was ever paid, it needs to be a persistent state. I may be wrong about that, but I also don't feel like changing and re-uploading multiple different cards for my entry. So I submit - Please imagine I looked for the proper wording, and used it.

Limninus' 4th ability reads like RoboRosewater. Try "Whenever a Beast with power 3 or greater you control deals damage, you may sacrifice it. If you do, create three Food tokens."

Last call for entries - since I don't have one anyway, I'll judge this over the weekend!
EDIT: Yeah, that didn't go as planned - sorry about that. Challenge now closed!
EDIT 2: And here we (finally) go! As I usually do with this contest, I'll focus more on the mechanics themselves and won't comment much (if anything) about the individual card designs: { Idea}Expeditions are an interesting concept indeed. They definitely should get a somehow unique template, but using the Dungeon one for your entry is completely fine. The one thing I'm kind of concerned is the complexity though. You're gonna potentially have several creaures on board, each potentially on its own Expedition – each of those with its own unique triggers to keep track of – and you can't even tuck the cards underneath the particulas creature since there's counters on them (also it could be more than one creature on the same Expedition, obviously).. Obviously this is much less of an issue on Arena – but for paper Magic I could see this mechanic being a bit difficult to actually use.. { dangerousdice}I'll be honest, I'm not sure whether I understand your mechanic completely. So differing from the Whammy deck, yours doesn't get shuffled again but the placed cards stay out in the open? Also apparently new terrains aren't placed on top of the old one but rather next to one another like on a map – in every direction or just two-dimensional? Pretty sure the mechanic would require some proper rewording indeed – like is Chart supposed to be a keyword action? Because if so, Dauntless Scout would need a proper trigger f.e. { vizionarius}Like the idea for a mechanic about visiting locations, monuments etc – and using a similar balancing concept as Crew is a clever choice indeed. Not sure the mechanic needs to add by default though..? Also personally I think I would prefer using it on noncreature permanents – or if you do want to use it on creatures, at least change it to another for them so that the creatures don't „visit themselves“ since imho that's pretty weird flavorwise { kefke}Morph for lands is clean and flavorful, nothing much to say otherwise. As far as the individual cards are concerned, I'm not the biggest fan of Overgrown Islet's restriction (since it's easy to not think about it – also it's weird for the land to not have a mana ability otherwise..?); and since Inspiring Vista only filters mana it doesn't really feel rare. { Sanfonier of the Night}Interesting choice to make the ability trigger purely on ETB – pretty sure WotC would change it to a Kicker variant. Also I think it's worth pointing out WotC has moved tutors (land tutors for Limited's sake aside) mostly out of common to lower their as-fan in Limited to not have repetative shuffling (obviously not an issue in digital mediums) – so maybe change it to a Cascade-like approach? I do like the flavor and concept of the mechanic quite a bit though, despite my nitpicks.

My ability is the fusion (blatant thievery, if will) of sdfkjgh ability, with amass. Hope you all like it and if sdfkjgh doesn't like my entry feel free to delete it. Crowded Mass Accord (XXGW)Enchantment / Rare Crowded Mass Accord enters the battlefield with X crowd counters on it. At beginning of your end step mobilize X—X, where X is the number of crowd counters on Crowded Mass Accord. (Create X 0/0 Citizen Army creature tokens that’s all colors, then put X +1/+1 counters on each Army you control.) Whenever an Army with power 7 or more attacks, it gains trample until the end of the turn.

Mobilize (This becomes a creature until end of turn.) Experimental Mechsuit Artifact - Vehicle Whenever a Human enters the battlefield for the first time each turn, mobilize Experimental Mech. (It becomes a creature until end of turn.)Haste 3/1 "Highly unstable. Recommend good ejection seat." - K0-T0RConglomerate's Thoughtship Artifact - Vehicle Whenever you draw your second card each turn, mobilize ~. (It becomes a creature until end of turn.)Flying ~'s power and toughness are equal to the number of cards in your hand. */* "Welcome to a future that has no need for organic pilots."Firequasher Engine Artifact - Vehicle Hexproof from red, lifelink Whenever a player creates a Treasure for the first time each turn, mobilize ~. (It becomes a creature until end of turn.)Crew 4 3/4 "Typical nobles. They can't even make the basic act of saving lives an act without consideration for coin."Reference to ancient firemen led by Crassus in Rome, where they would only put out the fire if you effectively paid him. I decided to put a crew cost on the last one to A) still make it usable in draft and B) show how Crew and Mobilize can be used on the same card to create flavor - most Vehicle cards with this P/T/cost ratio have Crew 2 or less, making this relatively expensive to crew if you're a 'peasant'.

Today I bring a simpler keyword, which of course is MobilizeMobilize: Until end of turn, this/that creature gets +1/+0 and can attack as though it didn’t have defender.Mobilize is largely something which already exists in the form of letting creatures with defender attack as though they didn't have it. I felt adding the +1/+0 would help make this mechanic it's own thing rather than just a rewording (though keywording something has its own value), plus there is some intuition to it as many defender creatures have 0 power. So mobilizing your walls always turns them into something that can actually do something with that attack. That being said, while largely meant for walls, it can also put big stuff into a position to attack where before they couldn't because defender was the tradeoff for their big body (which admittedly, can lower design space for defender creatures, but also opens some as they now have a bigger chance to be able to attack at some point). It also isn't necessarily only usable on defender creatures, since even others might benefit from the +1/+0 bonus. Lastly, this mechanic has great synergy with effects that make a creature assign damage with toughness, as many defender creatures will have much higher toughness than power.

Judging based on the keywords, not the individual card designs.
sdfkjgh (To mobilize N, create N 1/1 colorless Soldier creature tokens.)Straightforward enough. Puts me in mind of a war-torn world where factions of every color use these colorless Soldiers.
Sanfonier of the Night (To mobilize N-M, create [N or M] 0/0 Citizen Army creature tokens that are all colors, then put [M or N] +1/+1 counters on each Army you control.)The biggest issue with this mechanic is I have no idea whether the first number is the number of tokens you create or the number of counters you put on your Armies. Like, if you mobilize 2-3, do you get two 3/3 Armies or three 2/2 Armies?
Either way, putting multiple variables in one keyword action is very complex. Just writing the mechanic down in this judging, I had to double check multiple times to make sure I got it right. Assuming this is a common effect in whatever set it is, it would constantly be making multiple tokens of varying sizes, which would be very hard to keep up with.
ZephyrPhantom (When a permanent mobilizes, it becomes a creature until end of turn.)The mechanic itself seems like it would play totally fine. I just think it would have a hard time finding a place to be used in sets. It reminds me of the enchantments that become creatures temporarily, but I doubt that any set needs more than a handful of them, and in that case, it would more likely be an un-keyworded ability. vizionarius (As this creature enters the battlefield, you may discard a card. If you do, it enters with a +1/+1 counter and gains haste until end of turn.)As a fan of riot and even the much less popular unleash, I want to enjoy this mechanic. I just think that giving up a whole card for a relatively minor buff to a creature will often feel really bad. Losing a significant amount of card advantage for a slightly larger creature with haste isn't going to be fun most of the time.
Idea (When a creature mobilizes, until end of turn, it gets +1/+0 and can attack as though it didn't have defender.)It seems like this mechanic would have very few use cases. Almost always, defenders are good blockers. I can't think of many occasions where you'd want to attack with a 1-power creature if it would provide a lot more utility holding back as a blocker. Like you mentioned, there are some cards that would like to attack if they could, but I don't think any one set would have a large enough density of those to make this ability relevant on more than one or two cards. If the mechanic inherently caused the defender to damage with its toughness, that would be more usable. Daij_Djan (You may cast this spell for its mobilize cost [as if it had flash] if you control an attacking creature.)Simple, flavorful, and I think it would play quite well. A potential issue is that you'd usually have to cost the card around its mobilize cost, which might lead to some unappealing actual mana costs to keep the card fair. However, I think your showcase cards are great examples of how it would work.
I'll have to give the win to Daij_Djan with sdfkjgh as a very close runner. Thanks for participating!
