Keyword Challenge Instant (Silver Border) Choose a word not named for cards named Keyword Challenge this game and not currently a keyword in Magic: the Gathering, then choose a sentence of twenty words or less. Target creature gets +2/+2 until end of turn. Put a keyword counter of the chosen word on that creature. It now grants the ability of the chosen sentence. Went with a new version of clash that isn't so "so what happens now?" and bad feels about everyone knowing their next cards.

Tjall, Who Dares Legendary Artifact Creature--Golem Warrior First strike, deathtouch, lifelink, vigilance, haste Tjall, Who Dares can’t be sacrificed. Whenever an opponent sacrifices a permanent, put a +1/+1 counter on Tjall, Who Dares and untap it. XRWB, T: Challenge X target players. X can’t be less than 2. (Each challenged player secretly chooses a nonland permanent controlled by an opponent, then reveals that choice. Each player who controls the permanent with the greatest mana value chosen this way or tied for greatest sacrifices those permanents, then each challenged player who didn’t choose a permanent with the greatest mana value this way draws a card.) 2/4

Just to be sure: Can it challenge any creature in combat or does it have to be one the Samurai is blocking or blocked by?

This is from an old challenge I did here, I named the keyword challenge as I didn't win, now I heve another chance. I assume that challenge as a key word needs two targets to function so the "Another" is always implied, and that's fine. But if I might nitpick, "target creature blocked or blocking" feels wrong to me because "blocked or blocking" is acting as a adjective (a complex one, but an adjective no-the-less) and in most english dialects proceeds the noun it modifies: "Target blocked or blocking creature." See arbelest elite for the analogous "target attacking or blocking creature." If your only reason for having the card as it currently is is the worry that having it targeting a creature it's blocked by or blocking would be too verbous, it's just two more words ("by" and "it"), and in that case the order you have would be typical because in the phase "target creature blocked by or blocking it," the words "blocked [by] or blocking" change from acting as an adjective to acting as a prepositional verb (a preposition which relates how objects' actions relate them rather than how they are positionally related in space), and that postceeds nouns in most english dialects.

I've imagined challenge as an effect similar to cascade, except it moves up in mana value. Challenge (When you cast this card, exile cards from the top of your library until you exile a card with a greater mana value. You may cast that card for its cost reduced by the cost of the challenging spell. Put all cards exiled this way that weren't cast on the bottom of their owner's library in a random order.) |
Note that it calculates the reduction by cost not mana value, so a two green costed spell () won't help reduce the cost of a two generic and a red costed spell ().Ralsori Brute A generic and a green Creature - Elf Warrior
Tap: add Green. Challenge
1/1
| Rampant Tomfoolery Two generic and a red Sorcery
Goad upto three target creatures you don't control. Challenge | Foolhardy Temper two generic a red and a white Enchantment - Aura
Enchant creature you don't control. Enchanted creature gets +2/+0 and is goaded. Whenever the enchanted creature deals combat damage to a player, you may draw a card. Whenever the enchanted creature dies, return Foolhardy Temper to its owner's hand. Challenge | Ttavori, Coliseum Survivor two generic and four white Legendary Creature - Giant Survivor First strike, Lifelink, Vigilance Challenge. If this spell was cast in a challenge, challenge three times instead.
4/6 | Gladiator-fed Lion Two white Creature - Cat
Challenge Whenever you cast a spell in a challenge, gain life equal to its mana value.

Thanks for the win ZephyrPhantom! Next word: Challenge (challenger, challenged, ...) Deftblade Duelist Creature — Human Soldier Challenger (This creature can’t be blocked by more than one creature if it’s attacking alone.) : Deftblade Duelist gains double strike until end of turn. 2/2
| Phantasmal Pugilist Creature — Illusion Warrior Challenger (This creature can’t be blocked by more than one creature if it’s attacking alone.) : Phantasmal Pugilist gets +1/-1 until end of turn. 1/5
| Bold Bloodsucker Creature — Vampire Rogue Lifelink Challenger (This creature can’t be blocked by more than one creature if it’s attacking alone.) 3/2
| Feckless Fighter Creature — Goblin Berserker Haste Challenger (This creature can’t be blocked by more than one creature if it’s attacking alone.) 2/1
| Taunting Throatslitter Creature — Elf Assassin Deathtouch Challenger (This creature can’t be blocked by more than one creature if it’s attacking alone.) Whenever Taunting Throatslitter attacks, target creature defending player controls blocks it this turn if able. 1/6
| Boastful Battle-Axe Artifact — Equipment Equipped creature gets +2/+1 and has challenger. (It can’t be blocked by more than one creature if it’s attacking alone.) Equip

Whew! This one was a real—pardon me for saying—challenge! I went through a few ideas, (almost making a new card type along the way,) and finally settled on something playing in the same space as provoke did in Legions, inspired by Challenger Troll, and potentially devastating in an exalted deck. I don't know how much depth there is to it, as it kind of encourages bogged-down board states, but they just added Sora to Smash Bros and this version seemed Simple & Clean, so...

Note that it calculates the reduction by cost not mana value, so a two green costed spell ( ) won't help reduce the cost of a two generic and a red costed spell ( ). A few weeks ago I (and apparently also others) thought so as well. Then the5lacker taught us better. Long story short: Comprehensive Rule 118.7b If a cost is reduced by an amount of colored or colorless mana, but the cost doesn’t require mana of that type, the cost is reduced by that amount of generic mana. It's just that most cards that do colored reduction handle it differently in their rules text. If you look at the rules for offering, this actually handles it the "generic" way. Judging on monday

Thank you for the win,. Glad to get it, especially after my interpretation of the mechanic I submitted was dead-ass wrong according to the comprehensive rules, and then I changed nothing about the mechanic...
You never know who might be listening: Design the keyword Eavesdrop and a card that uses it.

Gateway Gossip Enchantment Whenever an opponent attacks you and/or one or more planeswalkers you control, create a 1/1 white Soldier creature token. That token eavesdrops on the attacking player. (Reveal the top card of that player’s library. If it’s a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on the token. Then put the card back or put it into that player’s graveyard.)
| Crafty Conjuring Sorcery Target creature with power 2 or less can’t be blocked this turn. That creature eavesdrops on an opponent. (Reveal the top card of that player’s library. If it’s a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on the creature. Then put the card back or put it into that player’s graveyard.)
| Infectious Informant Creature — Zombie Rogue Whenever a creature card is put into an opponent’s graveyard from anywhere, target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn. , Exile a card from your graveyard: Infectious Informant eavesdrops on an opponent. (Reveal the top card of that player’s library. If it’s a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature. Then put the card back or put it into that player’s graveyard.)
2/3
| Boisterous Braggart Creature — Orc Warrior Trample Whenever a creature attacks you or a planeswalker you control, that creature eavesdrops on you. (The attacking player reveals the top card of your library. If it’s a nonland card, they put a +1/+1 counter on that creature. Then they put the card back or put it into your graveyard.)
5/2
| Sylvan Snoop Creature — Elf Rogue When Sylvan Snoop enters the battlefield, it eavesdrops on an opponent. (Reveal the top card of that player’s library. If it’s a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on this creature. Then put the card back or put it into that player’s graveyard.) Whenever a land card is put into an opponent’s graveyard from anywhere, you gain 2 life.
1/2
| Extended Eave Artifact Whenever a creature eavesdrops on an opponent, you may draw a card. , , Discard a card: Target creature you control eavesdrops on an opponent. (Reveal the top card of that player’s library. If it’s a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on the creature. Then put the card back or put it into that player’s graveyard.)

What is eavesdropping if not exploring your opponent's library? (I know, that doesn't make any sense, but don't worry about it. )

This might be a little too high-concept:
Tumbledown Shack Land--Lair Tumbledown Shack enters the battlefield tapped and exerted with three eave counters on it. Whenever one or more creatures attack you or a planeswalker you control, if there are any eave counters on Tumbledown Shack, remove one of them and that counter deals 2 damage to a random creature attacking you or a planeswalker you control. (This damage isn’t targeted.) : If there are any eave counters on Tumbledown Shack, add one mana of any type. Otherwise, exert Tumbledown Shack and add . (An exerted permanent won’t untap during your next untap step.) : Put an eave counter on Tumbledown Shack. Activate this ability only if there is an eave counter on Tumbledown Shack.

{judging} Sanfonier of the Night | Eavesdrop (You may look at the top card of each opponent's library.) | As a keyword, this is really inflexible, and permanents with this keyword are redundant. I just don't see to codify this effect as a keyword, because realistically how many cards are going to use this effect? It just doesn't feel like a keyword-worthy effect.
| ZephyrPhantom | Eavesdrop (When you play this card, target opponent reveals a card in his or her hand until end of turn.) | A relatively simple mechanic, but as currently written the opponent can repeatedly reveal the same card for additional instances. I'd want it to say "Reveals a nonrevealed card in their hand," so that getting enough eavesdrops reveals the entire hand. maybe a penalty for failing to reveal a card. | viriss | Eavesdropper (When this creature deals combat damage to an opponent, if that player has more cards in hand than you, you draw a card. Otherwise, they mill two cards.) | A conditional curiousity effect. Neat. | MonkeyChewToy | Eavesdrop (To eavesdrop, reveal the top card of that player’s library. If it’s a nonland card, put a +1/+1 counter on the token. Then put the card back or put it into that player’s graveyard.) | Explore for an opponently library, like you said; but, there's a reason scry is evergreen and fateseal has only seen print on about five cards. Launtern control is the worst thing short of prison. | noahlotr | Eavesdrop -- If a player revealed a card this turn, foo. [spells] Eavesdrop -- Whenever a player reveals a card, foo. [permanents] | My one critique is that I'd want it to care if an opponent revealed a card, since you can't really eavesdrop on yourself... | sdfkjgh | Eaves counters, which do a thing ?_? | I have nothing to say: perfect shitpost. |
{winner} I'm gonna give it it to viriss .
