Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our two-hundred and thirty-third challenge! The winner of the "Spells and abilities" poll was gateways7 with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... Looking at recent GP Top 8 decklists have shown one of the decks being played was Sultai GPG, even though the deck was originally Azorius. Color shifts in pre-established archetypes are always interesting to me, so your challenge is to design a card that could reasonably be played in a Constructed deck archetype, while being outside of the colors the deck normally uses.Note: | Any Constructed format is fine. Feel free to add either a link to a decklist / feature or give a short explanation of what your card is for, and it'll be added to the poll. ~Daij_Djan |
To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

I'll take a stab at green storm for modern. Storm is pretty standard in terms of decklists, and they usually play strictly blue & red. I figured I would try to give them a reason to add green.

Threads of Undoing
Enchantment Each enchantment and enchanted creature you control has "Whenever this permanent becomes the target of a spell for the first time each turn, counter that spell." Enchantment spells you cast can’t be countered. “Spells are like a blanket, woven of individual threads. Unraveling any one of them puts the whole thing in peril.”Art by: Kim Van Deun This is meant for Bogles, which can be found here. It's not outside of the color spectrum of Bant, but Bogles appears to be a much more green-white focused deck. Edit 2: Whole new entry. Render to be posted later. Edit 1: I went through and made it a legendary sorcery, to compensate for the "off-color." However, at the old costing, it was still technically in-color. With the hybrid mana you couldfeasibly cast this as one color, though the cards effects span two colors.

gateways7 : Congrats on the forgone conclusion. As soon as you posted your card, we all knew it would win. ::clap::
Thoughtbound Baloth Creature--Elemental Illusion Beast Thoughtbound Baloth enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each card you’ve drawn this turn. Deathtouch, hexproof Thoughtbound Baloth can’t be blocked by creatures with power 2 or less. 0/0
Because Teferi, Hero of Dominaria control needed more ways to win.

RE: bird pick. I think he wants to pick up *Chicks*, not female canines. Okay, bad jokes done, horrible horrible bad ideas for the metagame here: Attachment Deleted"When in doubt, design a pauper card." This is meant to make Pauper tron highly incentivized to be a white-primary deck, e.g. like Rhystic Tron, and less green dependent. Getting Bojuka Bogs is a side benefit.

EDIT: Its probably a bit strong for a modern common so I made it an old school card. "Oracle text: Instant, Target creature gains hexproof and indestructible until end of turn. Put a card from your hand on top of your library." So the first deck I thought of when I read this week's challenge was Delver in Pauper. Anyone who has played pauper knows that bolting the delver is the first and only priority for anyone facing one down and sometimes it would be great to be able to just flip that situation on its head. In current decks that usually just means counterspell, but I wanted to come up with something that could both protec while also setting up the flip. If push comes to shove it can also just be used to set up that delver flip. I play Izzet Delver myself and I think that a couple of the commons from GRN spoilers could really push UB delver, but I think a Simic version could be really awesome.

Spellslinger decks are pretty popular in EDH, but they're typically red and/or blue, since those are the two colors that care the most about instants and sorceries. Here's a green and white spellslinger commander with a +1/+1 counter twist.
Alser, Steward of Suncrown Legendary Creature - Elf Shaman Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, if it has converted mana cost less than Alser, Steward of Suncrown’s power, copy it and you may choose new targets for the copy. Otherwise, put a +1/+1 counter on Alser. 1/1

Ah, what the hell. It's been way too long since I last did something outrageous. Sarr, the Rift-Favored Legendary Creature - Elf Knight Trample As you cast instant and sorcery spells from your hand, they gain "Put a +1/+1 counter on up to one creature you control." 1/1Would storm ever play green? I don't know, maybe, why the hell are you asking me? Ask inverness , they seem to have a better idea of what they're doing. Sarr is an alternative storm finisher with text engineered from Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder so that the +1/+1 counter rider carries over to storm copies. If you need to go a bit wider, you can give counters to Empty the Warrens tokens, or even to Baral if, say, you enjoy making suboptimal choices in games of Magic: the Gathering. She is also probably hideously overpowered. More than usual, I'm calling in the feedback train this week. I can hear it chuffing on the horizon. It's coming for me.

what is infect Urabrask's Infiltrator Creature - Rogue Haste Infect (This creature deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters and to players in the form of poison counters.)Whenever Urabrask's Infiltrator is dealt damage, it deals that much damage to you. 1/1

As for your entry, I think it's pretty good power-wise. You have to play 2 spells before this creature breaks even on P/T, so it requires investment but also rewards you for it by being able to grow much bigger. I'm also glad that you decided to flavor it after the rifts from Time Spiral, that was a nice touch and it helped sell me on the card as a whole.

Always Greener Enchantment You may have Always Greener enter the battlefield as a copy of any land on the battlefield. I think this could be fun in Scapeshift, or Tron.

Back after a long break, looking forward to really getting back into the swing of card design. And with Ravnica just around the corner, I decided I'd love to see Death and Taxes expand to Orzhov colours, would be a really flavoursome faction and mechanic combo IMHO. Brutal priests and consiglieres sending in the Blackguard Paladin Enforcers to crush any mages, citizens or skulls that fall out of line. I also quite like that the card encourages wealth, having the coin/mana to keep up the beat down as your opponent continues to cast spells over the game.

Which deck is it intended for, and what's the new color? I will say off the bat that I don't see the white in this design at all - it's two fairly iconic red wraths (Hour of Devastation and Anger of the Gods) stapled together, and the player damage is also unilaterally red. If you'd showed me this text box without the frame or mana cost attached, white wouldn't even have crossed my mind.

Mutterflock Creature — Bird Flying Whenever a player draws a card, Mutterflock gets +1/+0 until end of turn. They spend each day watching and listening, and end each day whispering to each other incessantly, causing a low rumbling wherever they flock.0/1 Hard challenge! I designed this card for Hollow One. Though it doesn't synergise with Hollow One itself, it does with its enablers, such as a Faithless Looting, Goblin Lore, and especially Burning Inquiry, meaning it plays a similar role to Flameblade Adept. Synergy with looting might push it into , where it could go start using windfalls or wheels. It's also probably overpowered in delver, or any brainstorm deck, or storm, or any combo deck, and it's probably a nightmare in MTGO, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Attachment DeletedSoulcager Creature- Spirit Flying Other Spirit creatures you control get +1/+0. Whenever a nontoken creature you control dies, create a 0/1 white Spirit creature token with flying. 2/1 It promises eternal life but offers only eternal servitude. For Bant Spirits (modern). Black opens the doors to sideboard Lingering Souls (if not mainboard) plus other noncreature spells, and Vial flashing in Soulcager opens up some neat plays.

My knowledge of deck styles is... pretty bad. then my comment from one user to the next is: either delete the entry from the contest that specifically requires knowledge of deck styles, or research deck styles so you can modify your entry into a contest-compliant one In the interest of making this a bit easier - a good way to just quickly learn some iconic archetypes is just to quickly google something like "mtg modern archetpyes", find a list of them like this one, and research the strategy and the colors it's in. You'll find that often deck archetypes end up being referenced in terms of one or two words such as "Jund", "Dredge", "Bogles", "Storm", "Affinity", "Death's Shadow", and so on. (It's usually not a coincidence that they're using a word that refers to colors, a specific card, or a mechanic as a nickname.)

Tesagk: Recommended wording, assuming you want this to trigger once per permanent per turn: (Wording cribbed from Kira, Great Glass-Spinner.) I like the effect, but I don't think it needs to cost five mana. Privileged Position is five mana, the aforementioned Kira is three... given its limited range and scope of protection, this could probably sit around the two- or three-mana mark. As for whether Bogles would play it... It does protect enchantments, but one of the big draws of Bogles as a deck is that a majority of its threats have hexproof natively and thus can't be targeted. It could be a sideboard option to bring in against the inevitable sideboard enchantment hate from the other side.
