Uncommon 1 Sun-dance Herald Creature - Dryad Shaman Whenever a creature phases out for the first time each turn, exile the top card of your library. Until end of turn, you may play that card. 2/2 The Sun-dancers furiously exhaust their energy in their prophecy-dances of what is to come, for their words will not sway a frigid, certain Winter.

Summary: Very high scores all-around! I think the set took a really nice shape as the booster evolved. Deciding a winner was pretty difficult. I might message a few of you for "permission to use" in the coming weeks/months for some aspects of your designs for the set I'm working on in this setting. Thanks for all the great designs everyone! {Judging} { ameisenmeister } Frostgreeter: I really like this as the first card in the pack. Definitely sets the mood with the art, the name, the creature type, and effects. Feels appropriately-costed for a 3/2 that only is around every other turn, and that ability feels very appropriate for winter. I like it! [5/5] { Fermat } Summer Drizzle: This is a really neat design! I like that it can be used as a temporary removal or as a way to save your own things. I like the addition of the allied hybrids. It makes sense as both a red and a green card. Nice flavor text as well. The card draw makes it maybe a tiny bit strong. Fits very nicely to summer. [4.5/5] Famished Bear: I don't mind that this is green. It's the summer creatures that hibernate . I like that the limitation works well with this set, and that it counts both your phase-ins as well as the opponents, as a way to fulfill the limitation. Good name too. It feels just a little bit weak (see Nettle Sentinel). While phasing is definitely a major theme in the cards so far (and in the set as a whole), it's definitely still a limitation. Since it's a bear, I'd definitely keep it at 2/2. But maybe add a minor "enters the battlefield" effect that relates to his hunger, or some minor weaker ability (like frenzy 1?). [4.5/5] Priest of the Unforgotten: Our first enemy-colored true multicolor card (not hybrid)! Perfect name, flavor, and effect combination! You capture the feel of the Priests of the Mists here very well. 3-mana 3/3 with lifelink is strong. And the ability is setting for a very nice arcun, especially combined with the Sun-dance Herald from ZephyrPhantom . I like that we see an expansion of the "exile matters" theme. My only hesitation is that it might be a little too strong with having it trigger for each instance of life gain. Maybe a "for the first time each turn" or "at end of turn, if you gained life this turn" would put a check on its power. I really like this design, though! [4.75/5] { melono } Urge to Hibernate: I like the continuation of the allied hybrids, and this also feels both white and blue. Scry 2 at sorcery speed feels appropriate to add on as a bonus, and the limitation to enchant only low-toughness creatures puts a nice check to its power. Feels strong, but not too strong. Also fits obviously to winter. [5/5] { Bouncearama } Boon of the Mists: Love this card! I'm a fan of the "save me" variants, and this card highlights how this set would do it. I like how it gives a better way to keep the creature protected for the whole turn at the cost of not having access to it until your next turn. Very clever. The +2 power feels appropriate. Love the art and the name. Great depiction of what the Mists are about. I wonder if a creature entering phased out would have its "enters the battlefield" triggers trigger. I suspect yes? [5/5] Autumn Dryad: Nice continuation of the true multicolor uncommons (non hybrids). And we have an expansion of the Dryad sentient race. The power feels appropriate, and allows for nice burst plays every couple of turns. Mana value and power/toughness feel very appropriate; feels extremely like autumn as well (not just the name, but in effect -- you are harvesting!). Love the choice of art; perfect for the set! [5/5] { lordpat } Sage of Lost Horizons: The introduction of enemy hybrids makes sense given the factions, I approve. Very fitting creature type, good name, and I like flash on it. Love the flavor text. And I really like your design for the "no spells or lots of spells" as a way to show the solstices. Scry 1 and a 3/2 body both feel appropriate. [5/5] Sudden Bloom Collector: Interesting to see a ::U/R:: Elf! But I guess the spring theme allows for it, and we've seen off-color creature types when the flavor calls for it, so OK by me. The two abilities work really well together, so definitely asks to be played in a deck with both in it, but still useful in draft as a 1-of color. 3/1 feels a little strong, especially with those abilities combined. Great name too. But a "Bloom Collector" doesn't strike me as a fighting type, so the 3/1 feels a bit off for me with respect to that as well. a 2/2 to tone the power level down a tad, and make it feel more like a Bloom Collector, would work better I think. I do like the "if C was spent to cast" for this set, and with this being ::U/R:: I image the art having sakura trees in it. [4.5/5] Taltosh Shaman: Our first large creature in the pack! Sticking with the Elves, and with a new faction ability, this time for Taltoshes. Shaman is the perfect creature type here, and at 3/5, this feels quire beefy compared to other cards in the pack, so the Mists must have affected this Shaman to be so strong . I love your flavor text here as well. Super fits the mystical feel that I was aiming for with the set. I really like your sow ability. Being green (for summer and autumn) feels fitting for sowing (and harvesting, which is the upkeep return is). Keeping it to being able to harvest only 1 creature keeps the power of the ability in check. It's like a delayed "return to hand", but you can sow a bunch of creatures, keep them safe in exile, and then harvest when you want to cast them. Also works really well with the 2nd major theme of the set (using cards in exile as a resource), which hasn't been explored yet in the pack until this card. I like that mirrors foretell. I'm a fan! [5/5] { foureyesisafish } Seasons Familiar: Doesn't feel broken to me! I like that this is an elemental that bridges all the seasons, so it having all colors makes sense, even though it can be cast with generics. It also works well with the many multicolored spells we've seen so far in the pack, but limiting to once a turn sets the power level appropriately. It makes you go wider, not bigger, in terms of casting spells. So it has some synergy already with lordpat 's ability on Sage of Lost Horizons. I tend to not be a fan of the "only once a turn" being spelled out directly on the card, but I understand that sometimes it allows for designs that would be broken otherwise. 2/1 feels appropriate, the name is great. [4.5/5] { twintania } Extreme Weather: I love the name of the card tied with the effect, and enchanting the land as a way to show weather is very neat! I like that you used phasing to show that sometimes the weather is great for mana generation and other times it's not. Also feels very fitting to both summer and autumn, which share green. Flavor win and effect win over here. [5/5] Llweryn/Bolazzo: What an amazing way to capture the dualities in the set than with dual faced cards! We have the duality of phasing in/out, of the opposites in winter/summer with the solstices (that you capture here); with things going into exile but still not quite being gone. I'd likely keep the dual faced cards at just rares and above, and no transforms 9so far so good). I like your use of Snow, but would keep it as a flavoring, not something that actually mattered in the set, so what you do here works for me, but is not really needed. Having a Elf works due to the season colors, but Human Efreet feels off to me (just Efreet would have been better, I think). Llweryn's ability allows the controller to remove bad things from their creatures, but hurts self-helping Auras, Equipment, and counters. It also allows her to re-trigger leaves and enters triggers. But other than that, it doesn't really change the overall effects of phasing. However, Bolazzo has a much greater effect! He makes all exile removal into a temporary one! That feels very strong. At a 4/1 body, I guess he is easier to remove otherwise, (and will take down something with himself, most likely). The colors for the Order of the Solstice are and . It's the Order of the Equinox that is and (but now that I think of it, it would make more sense for them to be the other way around... thanks for making me think on that more). Generally interesting effects that play on the major themes of the set, but some minor misses in terms of flavor for me. [4/5] { ZephyrPhantom } Sun-dance Herald: Our first non-hybrid, multicolor card! Fitting to have them at uncommon (and up). Great name! And I like that we have with it also a new sentient creature type in Dryads. It plays on lordpat 's Sudden Bloom Collector's "exile top and can play it", but on repeat. The ability ties in nicely with spring and summer (with red being the bridge there). Great flavor text here! Has that ominous/mystical feel I was going for with the set. I like that the exile happens as a must. The fact that it's on every turn feels like an increase in power, but also makes it so that you do run yourself the risk of exiling away many cards (especially if you have multiples of these in play). A nice first arcun in the pack! It also enables the "cards in exile are a resource" strategies (a theme in the set), even if you don't play the card that turn. [5/5] {Winning} lordpat wins for some really neat designs that played well into the set, as well as highlighting some of the lesser-focused aspects of the themes in the set. Also really liked the mechanics designed for the various factions. Bouncearama and Fermat are second for adding high-quality designs. There were some quite stellar designs by others as well, but wanted to highlight the ones who had multiple entries that were topnotch.

Very sorry, I read your prompt again and again but I wrongly thought the main color of winter was white and summer was red so failed to remember the solstice was UG. I was totally confused.
About Human Efreet, I thought a pure efreet doesn't match with this a bit mystical flavored world. A half efreet whose looks is like a pure human except he can emit fire seemed not to disturb the world's flavor. But you are right, I couldn't express this taste with the card and it was superfluous.

Oh, you actually highlighted that it would make more sense to have the two switched! I like the R/W to be the solstice and the G/U to be the equinox. I will be changing that in my set. And I see now what you wanted with the Human Efreet. Something like a pyromancer, but not by training, but by nature. Sort of like the Flamekin from Lorwyn, but more primal and less of a constant flame.

Mysteries of Pekla Credit: chris orstowski on deviantart.com A long time ago, a civilzation of giants build the world. But without notice, they vanished. Their spirit and wisdom carried through the Fae, who used their magic to animate the Toys and other Objects in Peklas. A lot of their mechanisms revolve around clockwork, and many contain a mix of wodden and metal park. These beings are not only living, but many of them are concious and move through life seeking their greater prupose. What that purpose is, that is a good question. The toys have been divided into several kinds, the Order of Steel consists of warrior figurines, and have incredible tactical ability. The Doll Cultists are experts in magic and often cast hexes on whoever they seem to dislike. And these are two of the many many different divisions, some of which coexist peacefully, but conflict is also rather common between them. But much greater threats exist in this world. The Council of Insects is an organized mega allegiance of the ants, spiders, centipedes, scarabs, bees and flies. They move as one and can stomp entire houses in a day and kill any toy in sight. But these are nothign compared to the Feline Threats, giant Catlike beings that are not only vicious fighting machines, but seem to actively enjoy causing suffering to the toys. Rats and mice are kinder creatures, some of which are fairly intelligent, and often act as temprary allies of the toys. And finally and most terrifying, The Pack. Some see the pack as a godly punishment of the unpure toys, some adore them as these beings of supreme power. But everyone fears them deeply, knowing their destructive power. Their wagging tails can create currents that disrupt aerial escapes. their physical strentgh can rummage almost any defense, their keen sense of smell makes it impossible to hide among them. The grand hunter Shillad is the only Toy known to sucsessfully harm an atacking Pack Member to the point of retreat. And those are the threats they we know of, who knows that horrors lie ahead? The songs that come from the morning, the croaks in the night, where do they come from? What can they do to us? Only time will tell.... Flavor: As the description implies, this is a set where everything is huge. Rats and cats, which would be small creatures in other sets, are fairly strong here. Everything should feel dangerous, everything should be terrifying, even the most trivial of things. Survival is far from guaranteed here. Mechanics: There are several mechanical themes that could work here: -small creatures vs large creatures -small creatures matters -constructs/artifact subthemes -tribal subthemes: faeries, insects, rats, cats, dogs, etc. -raid/looting or something that reflects the struggle for survival Gameplaywise i'd like the toys to feel as such, maybe some way to customize them or something. The fae are the only source of hope for the toys, and they shoudl probably reflect that. Other than that go crazy, feel free to go for some daring name titles like "Search for the Toothpaste" or "Hide under a Penny", while some humor is fine, I want the darker tone of the set to still remain.

Maybe you intended this, but shouldn't a construct also be an artifact creature?

Maybe you intended this, but shouldn't a construct also be an artifact creature? I thought about it, but then I saw that there is this. So I think it works. They are no longer artifacts because they have become fully sentient. (That's not to say that all of them should be fully sentient, but maybe sometimes, and just that there is at least 1 precedent for a non-artifact Construct).

Common #3
Here's a card that displays the suffering that the toys are enduring at the hands, or rather wings, of the other critters. I hope that a removal spell that scales based on the number of creatures in play will fit in well in a set that cares about small creatures. This is also my first post on not only this thread, but the forums themselves. Hello I guess

Sorry, been absurdly busy lately. vizionarius is the winner, but entries have been extremly solid in general. I'd have wished for the dogs and alike to be a bit bigger, but other than that great mechanics and cards.
