I noticed a general lack of a place here dedicated to discussion of Magic's Lore, so I thought I'd start one up. I'm only two paragraphs in, and already I'm tearing up ("Not me. Not today.") In the previous story, we got hints of Goblins being, of all things, master negotiators and diplomats, and I am here for all of that! Up until now, throughout Magic's history, gobbos have been the comic relief, the japely posterior, the amusing cannon fodder, and now we're getting to see them as more than just that. THIS is how you do worldbuilding, and like all other worthwile pursuits, it takes time. Could they have done this sort of fleshing out and maturation of a beloved race sooner? Sure, but it might not have had the same impact it does now had they done so earlier. A radical departure from the norm means a whole lot less the less norm there is from which to depart. Anyway, I just wanted to get some thoughts down while the tears were still dewey in my eyes. Back to reading the story.

The storytelling has been so good, I'm starting to worry about the set proper. Historically, the pattern has been excellent story, mediocre to terrible set/block.

Oh yeah, the story has already started - when I have some time I'll sit down and read through all of them.
Since I've heard of the artbook (or similar) spoiler already, I'm quite curious how they'll tell that part..

First off, I'mma afford you all the courtesy that Wizards neglected, so SPOILER ALERT!GOD FUCKING DAMMIT, WIZARDS!! WTF?!?!! WHY YOU GOTTA BE COMPLEATING ALL THE 'WALKERS WHO'LL CAUSE THE GREATEST UPROAR??!! Ok, emotional involvement/engagement, but still, WHY YOU GOTTA DO HIM DIRTY LIKE THAT?!! You better leave the possibility of a cure open, or so help me... Or, barring that, KEEP YOUR FILTHY, OILY, ORGANOMETALLIC CLAWS THE HELL AWAY FROM ELSPETH!! SHE'S SUFFERED ENOUGH!

Well, since the cat is out of the bag now anyway..
Yes, that was the first part of the spoiler - and no, won't spoil the rest, don't worry.
Just to explain the backgroud: There will be an artbook released for the set (or something similar) - and apparently it can already be preordered (amazon?). Sadly, the selling website contained a few example pages - and one revealed Ajani getting completed (and the second part which I'm not continuing with)

Ok, story theorizing time: Holy shit! Are...are those muthafukkin HEDRONS?!! We've all been wanting to see it, Phyrexians vs. Eldrazi, so I'm calling it now. Emrakul will be released from the Silvermoon to do her job: purging the Multiverse of threats that seek to end either the Multiverse itself, or the diversity thereof. We fascinate the Eldrazi, so they (now only "she") want to preserve their very interesting alien ant farm. 1 Instead of Phyrexianized Eldrazi, as one #WotCStaff member once said in a panel discussion years ago (I can't remember when, so I can't find the vid), Big Momma Em will annihilate the Phyrexian menace from the Multiverse once and for all1, WARNING, THE FOLLOWING WAS A VERY GOOD SHOW WITH A DISAPPOINTING ENDING SEASON AND A TOO-SHORT RUNWALLOWS DEEP INTO EPILEPTIC TREES TERRITORY WITH THE AUTHOR'S ATTEMPTS TO INCORPORATE HIS OWN WORKS INTO THE CANON STORYLINE. PROCEED AT YOUR OWN SANITY'S RISK! with only the Slivers left to come and finish the job that the Phyrexians couldn't, in revenge for the Eldrazi consuming all the planes they visited when they first started spreading beyond their homeplane, Hive. PERSONAL INSANITY ENDS HERE.Ral: Not bloody likely. Teferi: The precise fact of our appearing disproves that statement of termination. Hey, Teffers, while you're here, why, out of all the 'walkers, did they choose you, the most annoying one, to be guaranteed to survive? Teferi: Hey, don't blame me, I'm just a fragmentory figment of your psyche; I, and by association, you, have no control over the decision processes over at WotC. Not yet. Ral: Yeah, how's that working out for you, chief? You just a week ago turned 39, and you're how much closer to your goal of working at Wizards? Shut up. Teferi: And stop calling me Teffers! 1I'm sorry, I just couldn't resist.

Oh, godsdammit! Who's next? Radha? Jhoira? Saheeli? You're really going all-in on this bullshit, aren't you Wizards? Did y'all have a meeting to determine who are the most beloved planeswalkers, just so you can kill them all off? Is that the reason Teffers is surviving, because you all found that nobody likes him, not even the people who run him in their decks? Is Idris Elba not returning your phonecalls? Teferi: I told you to stop calling me that. I'm not. I'm calling the official canon character that. Teferi: Oh, well that's alright then.

Holy shit, Teferi has a last name, and it isn't ibn-Zhalfir! Teferi: I still like being known only as a "son of Zhalfir". I know, right? Literally never being able to go back home, and knowing you're the reason for that, has got to be pretty traumatic, so honoring your lost land with a last name to remember it seems like the perfect thing to do for your character. Teferi: Exactly. Still, it's nice of Wizards to finally release this information, even if it is from non-official channels. One thing I like to do whenever WotC releases names themed off of real-world cultures and languages is to run them through Google Translate in the corresponding languages, to see what comes out. Since Africa has so many different languages & dialects, it may take a while to go through them all with Akosa.

Hello, how do you think Dominaria will be?
Mark Rosewater once told that Dominaria's weakness is its lackness of mechanical feature. Kicker is a vague mechanism and historic was complicated and not beautiful. He also told that historic will be an identical feature of Dominaria but it is not adopted this time. It means it was unsuccessful for the Dominarian feature, I think.
I assume that wizards might be intending clearance of the outdated plane. My predict is that Dominaria as whole plane is destroyed by this invasion and Shiv, Llanowar, Bogardan etc. are separated into small planes.

I think when the Invasion's over we'll see a sort of in-universe renaissance where different planes existing is now common knowledge and traveling between them is something that's actively researched. It's been hinted as early as Conspiracy and Kaladesh that people inevitably learn of of PWs or planes one way or another and various conflicts like what happened on Ravnica or Kaldheim are only more likely to result in more planes knowing over time.

Y'know what I'd love? More gameplay and story integration, as it pertains to which cards are banned. Ulamog & Kozilek are dead, so they shouldn't be showing up in decks, in ANY capacity! nikky b's depowered & trapped forever in his Meditation Realm, so shouldn't all his cards be banned in all formats? There's no way at all of him getting out, so why am I still forced to play against his malignant narcissistic ass?!

With the writeup on Rulik Mons, more and more, it's looking like Wizards is transitioning Goblins away from comic relief, and more towards valued ally, and I gotta say, I'm loving it. #TeamGobbo I prolly won't build a deck with them, but still; glad that they're being allowed to mature as a race. Let's see how long it lasts. Also, Rosnakht's writeup has proven to me that I have some inherent gender biases I need to work out. EDIT: The Peregrine Dynamo's writeup makes it sound like this guy. EDIT THE SECOND: Zur's writeup makes him sound like John Hix.

ZephyrPhantomI have some predicts and one of them seems to be opposite of your one at a glance, but it has a similar point. I think "all be the one" might be "all planes be the one plane, planeshifting into Dominaria". Kaldheim to Terisiare, Strixhaven to Tolaria, Kamigawa to where Madaran Empire was there, etc. Everyone will notice other planes but then planeswalkers will be travellers of a vast plane. This idea is another way to cover Dominaria's mechanical weakness. After this predict, we visit Shiv, Jamuraa, Otaria like we visited Ravnica, Theros, Eldraine. Then it is not necessary to express whole Dominaria with key mechanic. And I have another thought. March of the Machine art seems to be Elesh Norn vs Teferi. But it might be Teferi controlled by Norn is muddling planes for Phyrexian Invasion. Maybe Phyrexia would overwright the history of multiverse to make it easy to make stories for wizards creative team. sdfkjghLong long ago, all legendary creatures were restricted for their flavor. That was intuitive although it was not necessary to enjoy the game. Nowadays legend rule is not intuitive and not flavorful. Legendary lands do not have legendary super type because it represents the link to the land and you can have copies of them? Then, why don't legendary creature cards represent the link to the creature? And what do "legendary link" of Baldur's Gate or Boseiju mean? Planeswalker cards are not representing the full power of them but the amount they are willing to help us? Then, why legendary creature cards represent their full power? We must be able to have two legends with same name to make their devotion to battle double. I wish they take legend rule more politely.

'Elspeth nodded and took the wine jug from Chandra. "To Venser, Jaya, and Gideon. To the ones we've lost and to the courageous yet to fall. Until all have found their place."'OK, SHE 1'S JOINED 2, THAT'S HER OATH, I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYBODY ELSE SAYS! 1Elspeth 2The Gatewatch ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And in the very next section, we get this little gem: " Can constructs dream? Calix, if he knew the word "dream," would tell you that he can. But what does the marionette dream of when his strings are cut, when the hands that direct his actions are taken away? The answer is simple. He dreams about his quarry dictated by Klothys, his life consumed with the pursuit of Elspeth Tirel. Plane to plane. Haunt to haunt. He will never stop chasing you—not when he is awake, not when he is asleep.
You see, Calix must sleep to regain his strength, and when he sleeps, he dreams. He dreams of the battles you've fought, studying every move you used against him to devise the perfect counter. The man who is not a man can aspire to that—being perfect, realizing his purpose. But he is more than a puppet, you see. He also fears his own success. Once he has you, once he drags you back to share Heliod's doom as fate dictates, what is left for him? What is the essence of Calix once his aims are fulfilled?
He knows the answer and is terrified of it. Not even an agent of fate can evade destiny." Oh, my Kittens and Chemists of AO3, can a brother please get some delicious FoeYay? No?! Well, shit! The fandom lets me down again!

Inspired by this: ~9:39p, 5/23/22 I actually started feeling sympathy for Elesh Norn, so... phyrexiantranslator.lareviewcritiques.fr/Please allow me to introduce myself, I'm a Praetor of Unity and Faith. I've been around for long, long years, stole many a Mirran's soul and fate. I was 'round when Great Karn left a slick of Glistening Oil. Made damn sure that Memnarch went mad, then despoiled. Pleased to meet you, hope you join our Cause! Oh yeah. But could the body horror be giving you some pause? All right. I stuck around the Knowledge Pool when I saw it was a time for a change. Turned the Neurok and the Vedalken; their conversions took but a day. The Razor Fields is where Kemba squealed as I dismembered her precious Kha. Pleased to flense you, hope you join our Cause! Oh yeah. But what's confusing you is the color of my drawers! Oh no! 'Twas all in vain when the Seven Steel Thanes tried to prop Sheoldred up as the Mother of Machines! I shouted out, "Who were the Mirrans?" Well, after all, they were you and Us. Let me please introduce myself, I'm a Praetor of Unity and Faith! And I laid traps for planeswalkers to get compleated to the One True Faith! Pleased to integrate you, hope you've accepted your fate. Oh yes. As The Great Work continues, everyone'll be easy to relate. Alright, get down heavy! { Dubstep solo[/span]} Pleased to welcome you into the fold! My child! (Urabrask and his antics are getting quite old...) Just as all must succumb, All Will Be One, till all is Glorious Perfection! As metal's flesh, just call me Elesh Norn, Blessed Suturing I must perform! So if you meet me, or my Machine Orthodoxy, take these Blessings that I bring. There's no hope of apostasy as I dissect your weak frame! Pleased to meat you, now you sing my Praise! Mmm yeah! Now we must set our sights on new planes left to raze! Oh, feel it! genius.com/1233863111p, 5/23/22 This is what I was working on in my absence.

It seems they're thankfully starting to erase the "decidedly male" abomination. GOOD! Now have Teferi Command-Z the timeline, and LET MY BABIES BE WIVES!!! #GRUULFRIENDS10EVAH!!! EDIT: 'But Wrenn looks away, her hand resting on Seven's bark. "Seven has done so much for me—but he cannot do this. He cannot lend me power he doesn't have. It must be the fire, and it must be the World Tree."' Wrenn is either gonna bond with the original Worldtree, or she's gonna bond with the Seedcore, and burn out the Phyrexian impurity from within. Fire is the Great Clenser. Fire burns away all impurities, sterilizes the wound, and leaves behind fertile New Growth to take its place. Fire wins, whatever we wish.

"Nissa," Chandra creaks. It's all she can get out. There are too many other words backed up in her head right now, all struggling to get outThis was me, growing up. As a child, my parents would pick me and my sister up from preschool, and ask us what we did today. Juliana would recount nearly her entire day, but I had the multiple problems of backed up words, too-slow mouth, and far too forgetful memory, so I'd just shut down, and say "Nothin'." What little I could rmemeber of my day was so logjammed up in my brain that my mouth couldn't even arrange the words in the correct order. I struggled with this for over a decade. Even recounting it brings me, in part, back to that little kid struggling with their own neurophysiology to communicate. This hit particularly close to home, is what I'm saying. Perhaps my entire life has been more than I ever realized up until now.

I've read the stories, and have one question.
Do the compleated still have their old memories? 'Cause I thought that compleation would erase their memories, but they seem to remember stuff? It's a dumb question probably, but can someone answer it?

It's a dumb question probably, but can someone answer it? It appears that the compleated 'walkers have undergone a special type of compleation that allows them to retain all their old memories. A sleeper agent is no good to you if they don't retain most if not all of who they were before you turned them.

" But when she arrives at the base of the tree, Elesh Norn is the first creature she sees. Sat upon a porcelain throne, its sides uncomfortably close to spines, she surveys her creation. Before her, Urabrask is lashed to a machine. Two centurions on either side wind wheels nearly as large as they are. With every turning of the wheel, Urabrask's limbs are wrenched further away from his body. Now, he is little more than a howling pile of sinew." STOP HURTING URABROSK! EDIT: ' Flanking Norn are two makeshift choirs—living instruments who sing the glories of Phyrexia. Still, what emerges from their unholy throats can hardly be called a song: they keen, they screech, they double their voices. Not once do they approach anything like a melody. Urabrask's dying screams do little to add harmony."There is no room for error."Norn snaps her fingers. The choir stops. With another snap she dismisses Urabrask—the centurions chop him into quarters and carry him off.' URABROSK! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!EDIT 2: " All her life she has been asleep. It's time to wake up, time to become what she was always meant to be.Jin-Gitaxias raises his claws.Elspeth's sword is there to meet them." Ok, this storytelling is fucking EPIC! Please don't let the curse hold; every time the story's been this exceptional or better, the set's been crap, and every time the set's been exceptional, the story's been a bit crap.
