The ferns rustle quietly. On approaching the clearing, that’s all there is, a wall of fern, but anyone approaching - if they listen carefully - can hear someone swearing intricately under her breath. If that visitor is brave enough to push the ferns aside, they’ll see a young woman with cat ears and a tail lying on her side. Her arm is plunged up to the elbow in mud, mud that’s smeared over her coat and in her dark hair.
Talk in the town is that she’ll sell herbal remedies if you ask, but it’s hard to find anyone that’s actually purchased anything from her. And there certainly isn’t any sort of shop here.

A soft, idle hum fills the clearing, growing in volume as he approaches. By the time Jay enters the clearing, he's made his presence known. "So I heard there was someone new around here," he remarks, ""And I wanted to extend a formal welcome." But despite the friendly smile and tone, there was something off putting about his demeanor, like he has some ulterior motive to be here.

An unkempt woman in a white coat stumbles her way through the ferns into Iritola's camp. She somehow looks both to be completely lost, and exactly where she intends to be. In a hoarse voice, she croaks out "Help... me. Starving..." As though those few words were the extent of her energy, the woman collapses onto the ground in a heap.

"Healer!" calls a voice near Iritola's camp. "Healer!"
Two men are carrying a third on a stretcher, trying to find the healer they were told should be here. The third's eyes are closed, but the pained breathing and rattling coughs let everyone know he's not dead, yet. The first thing that Iritola thinks when she hears the humming is that something’s gone wrong with her rover. It’s an odd contraption like a cart but instead of a place to sit is a skeleton full of machinery, pistons and vials and a complex pulley system that, honestly, she’s not quite sure how to interpret. Maybe it connects to the engine? Her samples are safe though. She checks the colors against the makeshift mana scale she made. What was light blue this morning has gotten darker and more saturated. Even better than she expected. Even at these levels, the mana concentration is enough to begin her experiments. She smiles to herself. But that doesn’t explain where the humming is coming from. Her ears twitch, trying to locate the sound. Outside of her little clearing. So many visitors. It’ll mess up her readings but she grabs a handful of mana rich soil, shoves it in her pocket and then puts on her best “impress the investors” smile as she waits for her visitor. As soon as she sees him, she knows she made the right move. It makes her wish she paid more attention to the political games in the lab. “I’m honored to receive it. But now I’m at a disadvantage, you know something about me and I know nothing about you.”Uneasy Salutations Enchantment - Whenever you discard a card for the first time each turn, create a 1/1 blue Spirit creature token with flying. Inquiring Minds - I really like the choice given to the opponent here, it feels meaningful. 9/10

Sorcery Return target creature card from your graveyard to your battlefield, then sacrifice it. Iritola prefers the really injured clients because they make all sorts of noise when they come in. It’s an advantage of the ferns too - slows people down. So she has plenty of time to collect her things and herself before the woman stumbles into her clearing. What Iritola isn’t expecting is for her to just collapse. Iritola does not attempt to catch her. “If you’re starving, I won’t be much help,” she mutters as she uses her foot to check if the woman is still conscious. Apathetic Quip Instant - Counter target triggered or activated ability. You may copy that ability and choose new targets for the copy. Unsettling Entrance: This is spicy! I’m not entirely convinced but I want to be. 8/10

There’s now a long strip of bark with a number of herbs, bowls, some vials and a mortar and pestle, all just barely visible under a few large fern leaves. The rover hums merrily behind her as she crushes some petals in the pestle. She is only too relieved to jump up and deal with the approaching customer.“My finest remedies, hmmm? It’s an interesting request, but not one that has much meaning. What’s “finest?” Are you asking for my most expensive? Most labor intensive to create? Most representative of this lovely town in which I’ve found myself? No, I’d assume that you’d be asking about the tinctures most relevant to your situation.” She tilts her head with her tail slowly swishing. “But I don’t know anything about your situation, do I? I could recommend Castor Beans if you were going to a noxious swamp where you’re sure to inhale poisonous gasses and get bit by venomous animals, but that’s as likely to kill you as help. A monkshood tea would be far more effective, but only against poison, not venom. And perhaps there’s no poison at all and instead you need something to strengthen your skin. Or maybe your resolve? The question must be begged; can you handle my finest potions?” Bolstering Draught Instant - Draw a card. Target creature gets +X/+X until end of turn where X is the number of cards you’ve drawn this turn. For the battles ahead.
Blessing Hoarder - I love this card. This name is hilarious and fits with the effect incredibly well. Seems rad. 9/10

“Witch curses could be a problem,” Iritola says as she examines the sick man. She pulls out a clean cloth and wets it with a pitcher of water she previously collected and wipes down the man’s skin. And potentially wipe off whatever might have gotten on it. Then, using the wet cloth to shield her hand, she presses gently down on and around the veins, checking for swelling or abnormal textures. “If you’re planning on burning me at the stake, I’d appreciate it if you did it now, before I expend all this effort attempting to save your friend’s life.”Patient Patience Enchantment When ~ enters the battlefield and at the beginning of your upkeep, gain control of target token as long as you control Patient Patience. Look, we've not got a lot but we'll spare what we can, we know healers's good people." He presents a few silver coins with a four-armed woman minted on them.
The fever starts to lessen at the water. The markings along the veins are raised slightly but still seem to be skin, like a discolored mole had quickly grown over the man's entire circulatory system. There's no spells or enchantments to be detected, at least on the outside. Thicker than Water Instant As an additional cost to cast this spell, pay up to 3 life.
Create X Blood tokens, where X is the amount of life you've lost this turn. (They're artifacts with ", , Discard a card, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.")
this one's a gift, if you like Patient Patience -idk why you were worried about the name that's great. effect is tricky to judge, sometimes this is just a five mana do nothing and sometimes its as many Mind Controls as it takes to end the game. i think given the colors this hurts the worst can also remove the the easiest, this could live being a bit cheaper. 8/10

"Oh, my apologies for neglecting to introduce myself. My name is Jay Volkan." Jay didn't extend his hand, and although his words, and facial expressions, feigned an air of friendliness, his eyes remained cold and professional. "I've been looking for a....researcher. One capable of discretion." There were plenty of scientists and apothecaries and so on that were easily accessible from the Arena, but most of them were on the wrong end of the alignment chart for him and his needs. The actual research he was looking to commission wasn't actually that important to him, but potentially developing the loyalty or engaging Iritola was. He produced two vials from his coat, each filled with dirt. The first one was very dark, with traces of volcanic dust meshed in it, "Obtained from the plane of Tocaiba,", and the other one was full of a mixture of dirt, ice, and bits of actual water, "And from the plane of Zimask." He placed both vials down at the closest thing he could find to a lab bench. "Both of these planes are connected to The Spindle, my home. I'm curious if you can find any similarities, despite the drastically different environments between them. If you need more resources to accomplish this, I can see if I can arrange a more...conducive atmosphere to research." Smuggler's Shiv Artifact - Equipment Equipped creature gets +2/+0 and has "Whenever this creature attacks or blocks, draw a card, then discard a card." Equip
Uneasy Salutations is a bit weak, I think. Could easily be 2 mana, or have another ability. But I think having this capped at one spirit per turn is a good move. 8/10

They'd heard one had opened up recently, shortly after another closed up shop, and had hoped they would be open.Apparently that was not the case.
They pause where they are, not making any more movement through the thicket near Iritola's outdoor shopfront, and call out, demeanour carefully neutral:"My apologies, I have been informed incorrectly. Would you happen to know the location of an apothecary nearby? Or, failing that, the nearest peaceful settlement?"Just in case, they slip their hand onto the hilt of their blade and prepare to shift into smoke, wary - if not quite anticipatory - of a hostile encounter, and wait for a response.Reliable Waypoint: Really like the flavour here. 9/10
Hardy Bushbasher Creature - Elf Ranger When ~ enters the battlefield, mill two cards. Whenever ~ attacks, if it has no counters on it, you may exile six cards from your graveyard. If you do, put two +1/+1 counters and a menace counter on it. 2/2

8/10The moment Iritola's foot makes contact with the woman, it sinks into her flesh more than should be physically possible. Suddenly, a row of razor-sharp teeth forms around Iritola's foot, and attempts to bite off whatever it can. The woman chokes out an "I'm sorry..." from the ground.
Apathetic Quip - Nice simple card, probably could be 1U since it's so situational. 8/10
Twisted Consumer Creature -- Horror When Twisted Consumer enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice another creature or discard a creature card. If you do, target creature you don't control gets -2/-2 until end of turn. 2/2
“Absolutely not,” Iritola says as her foot sinks into the woman. Pulled off balance, she drops to the ground, but as she falls, she flings her hand out toward some of her supplies. Herbs. Herbs. The mortar and pestle could, technically, be used as a weapon, but not any more helpfully than her foot. The lodestone. That would work. She grabs it and punches the woman’s leg, not to do any damage but to make sure that her hand holding the lodestone is consumed the same way her foot is. Assumptions, she’s always felt, can be justified in pressing circumstances. Protective Gear Enchantment - Aura Flash When Protective Gear enters the battlefield, enchanted creature gains hexproof until end of turn. If enchanted creature would leave the battlefield, instead sacrifice this Aura and remove all damage marked on it. Twisted Consumer - This feels like a lot of hoops to jump through for a small amount of removal and a small creature. I think the body could be bigger. I love the flavor though 8/10

I love the flavor though 8/10 The mouth on Avis' side hungrily consumes Iritola's hand and lodestone as well, expanding slightly to accommodate everything in it. It starts gnawing and biting down, trying to chew up whatever is in the maw in order to swallow. Avis starts to move, slowly rising to her hands and knees, unable to stand fully because of where the formed mouth is. "Sorry... Too... hungry..." She chokes out, looking apologetically at Iritola.
Protective Gear - Love this simple protection aura. 10/10 Fevered Consumption Instant Target creature gets -2/-2 until end of turn. It gets an additional -1/-1 until end of turn for each creature that died this turn.

With so many visitors, Iritola’s spent the day preparing.
Seems rad. 9/10 At first, the Knight seems bemused more than anything, but by the time the apothecary has begun to explain the benefits of wolfsbane, a grin has deepened the creases of the Knight's pale face. "What fine remedies. Indeed, I have no doubt that if one were to imbibe monkshood tea and survive, they would certainly be proven beyond the reach of most poisons." They raise an eyebrow. "My good apothecary, I am telling you that I am riding into battle—on a steed, on solid ground. Against blades and pikes. What would you have for me then? A glass of sharp needles to inure myself? If so, let's settle for something more dull."
Intruding Thought Enchantment Creature — Incarnation Bestow Whenever you draw your second card each turn, Intruding Thought deals 1 damage to each opponent. Enchanted creature gets +2/+1. 2/1 Bolstering Draught — So a few things. Combat tricks are ways to protect our own creatures in such a way that we keep them and our opponent loses a creature; if you're using tricks properly, they're 1-for-1s, which is usually a limit at common, though some tricks like shrink tricks will draw cards since they don't make it easier to actually kill in combat, just not trade. With that in mind, you'll usually be using this on the attack, meaning a minimum of +2/+2, which is easily enough to swing a combat in your favour, and with a card drawn at 2 mv—which is very strong. I think that this also bends an ability that would be slightly better suited for green, given the types of tricks it usually gets. Besides that, it's a great way to stack itself with the Hoarder's copy, so it's a good response in that sense. 7/10

The first man smacks the back of the head of witch-talking man. "We ain't burn witches, that's just a storybook thing.
8/10Iritola takes the coins and shoves them in her pocket as she continues to examine the man. "Can you walk me through what happened? In as much detail as you can. Was he touching something?" She looks up suddenly. "Do either of you have this same discoloration?" She pulls up her own sleeve and points to where the veins would be visible if they're bulging. Hippocratic Oath Enchantment When Hippocratic Oath enters the battlefield, create a 2/2 blue Wizard creature token. Whenever you discard a card, target creature you control gains flying until end of turn. Thicker than Water - I'm not sure how to evaluate this one. Normally I'd be concerned abt that much value for only 3 life but VOW gave out blood tokens pretty freely. I love the flavor of life becoming blood tokens though, huge win on that front. 8/10

The place he went to totally collapsed after some fight she had, so I don't even know what he expected to find. When he came back he complained about being all tired, but he looked fine. This morning while he was walking around he just fell right off his feet and starting this coughing. No one in the village has seen anything like it, so we hoped one of you wandering healers might."
"The colors... that started showing up on the way over here, right?" He turns to the witch-talking man, who is just pointing at the first's arm. While Iritola's arms are clear, there is a light bulge along the veins of the first man.
Which then starts to wriggle upwards. Instant Target player mills equal to the total power among creatures they control. Then creatures they control get -X/-0 until end of turn, where X is the greatest mana value among the milled cards. Hippocratic Oath - hmm this is almost there but feels like its missing a little something, like flavor text to explain the discard flying, or a discard outlet, or maybe making a Phelldagriff token instead of a wizard. good for the cost, might have a good potential in there, but a bit mechanically messy. 8/10

Iritola nods as if she has any idea who Wormwood is. Besides an apothecary. Maybe the one people keep comparing her too? It's something to investigate, if she ever gets a moment to herself. Clearly that won't be happening any time soon. "You need to sit down." She gestures at the other man. "You too." She hands out cold wet cloths. "Wipe these over the affected areas. Don't touch anything that's discolored."She jumps when she sees something move. "Fuck! What the shit is that? Okay okay, shit. Stay there." She grabs a long stick and more cloth and starts fashioning a tourniquet around the man's arm, hoping she can trap whatever moved before it can get deeper into his body. Localized Relief Enchantment - Aura Flash Enchanted creature's base power and toughness becomes 0/4. Scry 2. Get Under Your Skin: This is fun and I like the way the mill and the -x abilities work together mechanically, but there's something off about it. Maybe it's the stinginess? I'm not sure, the more I look at it the more I like it. Also I'm a baby but this flavor makes me shiver, love it and using mill to represent the concept. 9/10

The seemingly unaffected man sits aside, nervously running his hands all over, trying to find a lump of his own. The tourniquet wraps around the other, cornering whatever it is beneath his skin. It begins to wriggle back down. The green and yellow discoloration begins to appear on his skin, which is growing hotter and hotter... Sorcery Target creature you control gets +X/+X until end of turn. It deals damage equal to its power to up to one target creature or planeswalker.
Localized Relief - think this is missing an ETB for that scry 2, plus the enchant creature line. mechanic-wise is nice, defend-wise kinda odd to 0/4 your own creature permanently 8/10

She grins in turn. "Boring, but alright, alright. Your point is heard." Positioning so she always has an eye on the knight, she bends down next to her makeshift fridge. It's just a metal box with a cooling sigil, but it works well enough for her purposes. "Alright, roots roots, why do all these roots look the same? Here we go!" She holds up a something that looks like a white gear, although it's clearly organic in nature. "Lotus root will strengthen your mana, though it's up to you to wield the will and skill to use it." "As for your steed… I haven't been able to dilute it into oil yet but I do have some calendula paste for wounds." She tosses a small jar at the knight. Hesitant Suggestion Instant Draw two cards, then discard a card unless you control an enchantment. Intruding Thought - This is really fun! I really like that it has a mana sink option too. Also the lore implications :eyes: 10/10
