Welcome to the Deckbuilders' Challenge originally created by sdfkjgh! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a deck along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of every two weeks, a winner will be determined by forum poll, and the winner decides the challenge for the next fortnight's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our forty-first challenge! The winner of the “Partners and other references“ poll was ZephyrPhantom with... | (Modern) {Comments} You will run into many a Modern player arguing that the existence of Teferi, Time Raveler is killing Magic. This is especially likely if you're in an area with lots of Control players. So what better way to show your appreciation for their passion for Teferi than bury them in Teferis? This deck pretty much exists to do one thing and one thing only - play as many annoying Teferi cards and PWs as possible to give the opponent as hard a time as possible. Aside from Modern staples Path to Exile and Counterspell, every bit of soft or hard removal we have has Teferi's name or face on it somewhere, or is Teferi himself. As for how we win, we 'win' by making our opponent deal with Teferi so often you'd think sdfkjgh was running a blog posting marathon with him while organizing a jailbreak at the same time. While it is technically possible to ult a Hero of Dominaria or get a creature to push enough damage through, our prime goal is to remind all those excited players that Teferi is here to stay in Magic: the Gathering as friend to control/card advantage/combo. #ShitpostingOnTheSevens |
And the challenge issued by our winner was... Make a deck where every mana symbol in the cost is not a generic mana symbol (E.g. No cards with , , , … , etc... in the cost box) ("Not a lands challenge" fine print: The deck must also feature at least 20 nonland cards in the main deck.)This Scryfall search will give you most of the valid cards for this challenge. Notes: - is not allowed (it's a number). - Twobrid/Threebrid is not allowed (number in the mana symbol) - Searching -m:1 in Scryfall and keeping these two restrictions in mind will also get you most of the valid cards for this challenge. Please provide a decklist using deckstats, tappedout or similar. Feel free to add some comments as they will be included in the final poll. Please provide a deck name as well as choose a card to represent your deck in the poll. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

Bird, Plane & Flying Men (Canadian Highlander)
(First off, I'm not a greedy player. I don't play 5C good stuff decks.) So this deck is a mono-blue tempo deck. As a tempo player, you should use your low-cost, evasive creatures to connect (enemy face), and cast protective or dismissive spells to protect (your board). Since this challenge takes away cards like Looter il-Kor (or the probably better one), we have to make up with every 1 mana flying beaters.

That... narrows down the card selection pool quite a lot. A new submission will be posted after. Thanks for the clarification.

Any idea of how to exclude generic costs from a scryfall search? I just spent the past five minutes tearing out my hair trying and failing.
EDIT: It looks like we've finally found some functionality that Gatherer has that Scryfall doesn't!

This would be my first quick approach. What it doesn't filter out is twobrid and cards hat cost like Ornithopter - first one for laziness reasons and the second one because trying to get rid of those few cards messes with the search.
EDIT: Oh wait, no: The challenge doesn't care abiout abilities xD Then this is correct (with the same restriction as the previous one).

EDIT: It looks like we've finally found some functionality that Gatherer has that Scryfall doesn't! What's the setting? I'd like to add it to the OP to help others interested in the challenge.
In theory a regex in Scryfall include XSWUBRG should do the trick but I'm a bit too busy to figure it out atm.
Daij_Djan That works too, lol. Just as an aside, is still legal - I didn't want to constrict the challenge too much.

Do you want to add the link or should I? Don't want to do it right now in fear of both of us messing with OP at the same time
EDIT: ALso considering costs are fine - are the two exemptions even excluded?

EDIT: Twobrid and aren't allowed, since they'd be putting numbers in the text box. I updated the OP search accordingly.

Protection From ExplosionsDeck ListA lot of pro-Red creatures are , which means they often curve perfectly into a Red damage-based boardwipe. This deck plays particularly cheap ones like Devastating Dreams and Flamebreak to keep the board clear and the opponent behind while you beat down. Once noticeable advantage to this approach is that because we expect to blow up lands often Inspiring Vantage is much more likely to come in untapped. We also sneak in a few triomes to try and get some use out of Prismatic Ending to give us reach against threats this deck normally can't handle otherwise such such as enchantments.

As usual, I've thrown this deck together at the last minute - so it most likely requires some finetuning
This thread is now closed, the poll can be found here. And here's the next challenge!
