Funnily enough, today I have to offer one challenge for the new CotW as well as for this game – so how about we give both a similar theme? Your challenge is to build a deck using at least one card referring to another specific one by name.Feel free to pick any format you like. Have fun! Please remember: You're not allowed to vote for yourselves. |
(Commander)
{Comments}A straight forward concept (I mean picking partner commanders are just lazy). The deck plays like your common aristocrat deck, except you just realize many value creatures are humans. This deck also have a combo potential with Angel of Glory's Rise and many availabel aristocrat components in the deck like Zulaport Cutthroat and Cartel Aristocrat, etc. This deck is trying to be Hermit Human deck but fails. Seriously, why are there so many high-quality humans (in mtg)? |

(Modern)
{Comments} You will run into many a Modern player arguing that the existence of Teferi, Time Raveler is killing Magic. This is especially likely if you're in an area with lots of Control players. So what better way to show your appreciation for their passion for Teferi than bury them in Teferis? This deck pretty much exists to do one thing and one thing only - play as many annoying Teferi cards and PWs as possible to give the opponent as hard a time as possible. Aside from Modern staples Path to Exile and Counterspell, every bit of soft or hard removal we have has Teferi's name or face on it somewhere, or is Teferi himself. As for how we win, we 'win' by making our opponent deal with Teferi so often you'd think sdfkjgh was running a blog posting marathon with him while organizing a jailbreak at the same time. While it is technically possible to ult a Hero of Dominaria or get a creature to push enough damage through, our prime goal is to remind all those excited players that Teferi is here to stay in Magic: the Gathering as friend to control/card advantage/combo. #ShitpostingOnTheSevens |

ZephyrPhantom: I was all set on not voting for your entry on general principle alone, but then I saw how much you were buttering me up with references, and my ego was stroked to completion. Dirty pool, old man. I'm voting for you, under duress, but let the record show that this judge doesn't take too kindly to such boldfaced manipulation.
At least in this venue, it has been proven that you can buy my vote (and I'm a very cheap date), but I don't have to be happy about it.

In all fairness, I took inspiration from this post you made on The Garbage Deck Building Thread: (Previously "Garbage Budget Decks", but I took that budget limiter off - small plug for anyone who wants to share jank decks with the MSE community, btw, custom cards or otherwise.) Shitposting on the Sevens!
Lady Mapi, ZephyrPhantom: What if, now hear me out on this one, but what if you built a deck that ran all (or as many as could fit) of the planeswalker fetch cards from planeswalker decks, but ran none of those corresponding planeswalkers?! It's the ultimate in gimmick decks! Surprise your friends, amuse your enemies. My original intention was to do the above idea but Planeswalker deck cards are extremely overcosted to prevent them from being useful in any context, so I figured it was better to pivot around a pair and a strategy that could actually support that idea (which just happened to be Teferi and Control) since I try to make DC Challenge decks playable at the kitchen table (as in, at least able to punch up against your average Standard deck). I also like dedicated writeups and outside of Modern control players, there aren't many other players I associate with Teferi specifically. I will note that it is pretty funny both of these posts ended up being #ShitpostingOnTheSevens, though.
