Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our three-hundred and eighty-third challenge! The winner of the "Ancient Scriptures" poll was Orion Rings with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... Create a noncreature card with a new or existing card subtype. (Subtypes appear after main types in the typeline, for example Instant – Trap.) If you're creating a new subtype, make sure to explain what it would be used for. To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

Basic Crystal Array Artifact - Crystal Materialize - , : Scry X, where X is the number of Crystals you control. Draw a card. "These crystals are, at their core, knowledge incarnate. It's with this knowledge that miracles become possible." - Anabel, Exile of the Forgotten Family
Crystals are unique to Tahnkosha, and they all grow in power the more you have. The proccess to mine them, however, is quite dangerous, and almost all miners sucumb to calthisis, a disease that results in them turning to the very crystals they mine.

Emrakul's Arrival Enchantment - Saga I & II: Discard a card, then draw a card. III: You may put a creature from your hand onto the battlefield. It gains haste. Return it to your hand at the beginning of the next end step. Can't remember if I've used this before, just know that I came up with it a while back. Innistrad is around the corner, and I like Saga's depicting the prior events of a plane. Emrakul + Through the Breach is a classic combo and here it is in Saga form. The first two looting chapters are meant to synergize with the Madness theme brought about by Emrakul while letting dig for a good creature to Breach, and the third is just Breach itself.

Oh christ, do I take this opportunity to subject people to my Program subtype and explain how that nonsense works, or do I play it safe and just find some art for a Clue card I made the other day. Decisions decisions...

the5lacker: Do it, man. Be the BBC. Inflict your weird programming on us!
Industrial Brewery Artifact : Add . Activate this ability only if you control an Island. , Tap X untapped creatures you control: Create X Kegs. Activated abilities of Kegs you control cost less to activate. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Legends still tells of the petty, spiteful, bitter rivalry of the two competing breweries: Anh-Urza’s Bush and Mishra’s Lobe Ultra.
Keg Token Artifact--Keg , , Sacrifice this artifact: You gain 1 life. Until end of turn, you gain “If a source would deal 2 or more damage to you, it deals that much damage minus 1 to you instead” and “Mana costs you pay cost more to pay.”
The way I see it, Kegs will be used similarly to how Clues/Food/Gold/Treasure are used, as an additional resource that also has its own ability that can be activated in a pinch for some sort of value. The lifegain is because it's a comestible, like Food, but it's not quite as nutritious, and it comes with other benefits/drawbacks, like drunkenness. We've all heard stories of how a drunk driver gets into an accident, and they're fine, but the victim isn't; because the drunk was relaxed, they suffered fewer &/or less severe injuries than the victim, who quite naturally tensed up in anticipation of the impact, thus the damage reduction. The increase of mana payments is to reflect the reduced capabilities of drunkenness.
Also, I'd love it if, during the deciding attack of a major tournament (remember those?), the defending player shouts out "I needa get drunk!", activates a bunch of Kegs in response to the attack, and each Keg activation (yes, this works that way), and uses the stacked damage reductions to survive and crack back for the win. Bonus Cool Points if they start playing the Popeye theme as they're tapping all those kegs.

Fuck it, suffering time.
Firewall Artifact - Program Whenever one or more creatures attack you or a planeswalker you control, you may execute target Program you control. Whenever Firewall is executed, it deals 2 damage to target opponent.
So how Programs and Execute work: 1. Program is an Artifact subtype. It has no inherent rules meaning but acts as a marker for Execute effects. 2. Execute is a keyword action. It also has no inherent rules meaning, but acts as a trigger for triggered ability on Programs. 3. Programs all have some triggered ability when Executed. 4. Most Programs can Execute themselves, typically with an Enters the Battlefield ability for commons and repeatable effects at uncommon and above. Some Programs and non-Program sources can also Execute other programs.

Does this count? Creating a new subtype for an existing mechanic.

Does this count? Creating a new subtype for an existing mechanic.
It's not quite the same. "a Leyline" implies that you can start with only one, whereas "any number of Leylines" would be a perfect match. Now, whether you'd actually want to perfectly match, or fix an inherently broken* (with enough of a critical mass) mechanic is up to you.
*I don't know if you've played against the "Oops, All Leylines!" deck, but it is not fun, and completely non-interactive.

That's a good point! I will pretend that the slight mechanical difference was intentional

shard is an existing subtype created by niko aris. i read that they can temporarily trap people in the shards they make, which means they can put an ally in a shard, throw it at an enemy, and have them pop out behind them. which is amazing

sade612: While I agree with the5lacker on the cleanness of execution of the p/t box, the rest of it is a bit of a muddle. How is it any significantly different from an Arrest with flash? You took what makes Equipment distinct from Auras (sticking around after the creature goes bye-bye) and tossed that out the window.
The keywords for each condition, however, are perfectly grokkable, with one small caveat (I'm not sure of the proper grammatical term, so I'll just spell it out): something can't have coward, but it can have cowardice.
