Welcome to the Deckbuilders' Challenge originally created by sdfkjgh! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a deck along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of every two weeks, a winner will be determined by forum poll, and the winner decides the challenge for the next fortnight's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our thirty-fifth challenge! The winner of the “Roleplayer's Guild challenge“ was ZephyrPhantom with... |
(Modern)
{Comments} A Collected Company based deck that wants to complete dungeons as fast as possible. "Any%" is a reference to speedrunning where the goal is to clear the game with any percentage of completion - just like the title implies, our party of adventurers is looking to complete dungeons as quickly as possible. Our unique little combo is that the main three legends of our party: Nadaar, Selfless Paladin, Varis, Silverymoon Ranger, and Acererak the Archlich all still manage to venture into the dungeon even when you're casting duplicates, allowing extra copies to still have value. We thus can quickly stock the graveyard and use Kethis, Hidden Hand to keep "speedrunning" more and more dungeons in large bursts as long as we have the mana. For this purpose, we use both Birds of Paradise and Utopia Sprawl to get us turn 2 legends in the early game and provide us lots of mana to help start start our 'speedrun combo' later. Likewise, we play Collected Company as a means to get our party out onto the battlefield as fast as possible; if they're out already, Collected Company becomes a 4 mana instant speed value punch of venture triggers from duplicate legends. If our opponent is no fun and tries to sabotage our speedrun attempts, we can play more fair combat and removal magic using Triumphant Adventurer and removal suite consisting of things like Assassin's Trophy to get rid of problems so that we can continue rushing dungeons in record time. |
And the challenge issued by our winner was... Make a deck featuring only Legendary cards and lands.(Note: I checked to make sure - this is possible even in Monocolor EDH. Each color has roughly 160 monocolor Legendary cards and Colorless has about 96.) Please provide a decklist using deckstats, tappedout or similar. Feel free to add some comments as they will be included in the final poll. Please provide a deck name as well as choose a card to represent your deck in the poll. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

Everyone loves legends, so I figured this would be an interesting take to see how far such an idea could be pushed. Some themes like Dragons ( Scion of the Ur-Dragon and Tiamat) or artifacts lend themselves more naturally to this kind of thing than others. I'm curious what could tried here.

Mono LegendsI did you one better and used exclusively lagendary cards - including lands. The rather miserable mana base is compensated by having more than a thrid of the deck dedicated to ramp. Of course, most of those cards are also useful for other things than just generating mana. The commander can be switched between Jegantha, Esika, Ramos, Golos and Sisay.

I did you one better and used exclusively lagendary cads - including lands. To be honest, this is exactly the kind of deck I was hoping to see. XD I would've made it the exact challenge but I decided it was better to give people some room for innovation since more flexible challenges seem to get more decks in my experience.

Hall of OathsDecklistA deck that uses the synergy between its various Oaths (Chandra, Liliana, Kaya) being ETB removal and Hall of Heliod's Generosity to oppress the opponent. Since duplicate copies will go to the graveyard via Legend Rule, Hall of Heliod's generosity can recycle them for us to grind our opponent out of the game. The goal is to keep the board clear of problems so that we can resolve even more oppressive effects like Kiku, Night's Flower and Eight and a Half Tails to slowly wear our opponent out of the game. We have two plan Bs if the initial plan goes wrong: - A suite of Gideons to support Gideon of the Trials, which will also trigger the various abilities of our Oaths. - If our primary methods of attack are locked out via enchantments and artifacts, we can use Ghen, Arcanum Weaver to repeatedly burn the opponent out with an Oath of Chandra or Oath of Kaya instead.

@ ZephyrPhantom: That's a clever one - I wondered whether it would be possible to come up with a non-Commander deck for this challenge.. My only idea was trying to come up with my own version of the Bard Class deck - but sadly the Class itself doesn't fulfill the challenge's requirements
Also sorry for the massive delay. RL was really stressful, and suddenly an entire week had passed. But finally, here's the poll!

(Commander)
I really wanted to create a five-color Shrine deck, but with me being so busy in the first week while being struck down after my vaccination shot in the second one, I really didn't have the time to set it up properly. I really wanted to enter something anyway, so I kind of threw this together within half an hour or so - so I'm pretty sure it's not really balanced like at all Still, hope you like the concept ayway
This thread is now closed, the poll can be found here. And here's the next challenge!
