Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our three-hundred and seventy-eighth challenge! The winner of the "Draconic Rainbow" poll was the5lacker with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... A subtle but important feature in modern set design is the Signpost Uncommon (Or as we often call it here: Arcun ~Daij_Djan), typically a cycle of two-color cards that indicate which archetypes each color pair is aiming for in draft. A recent twist has been to make these Signpost cards Legendary Creatures, both to serve as medium-low power Commanders and because it just seems fun, so that's what we're going to do. The challenge this week is to design an Uncommon Archetype Signpost Legendary Creature, which means: - The card must be a Legendary Creature.
- The card must be an Uncommon, with an appropriate power level and complexity.
- The card must be a signpost for a draft archetype. This typically means being two-color, but there have been mono-color (Eldraine and Theros), tri-color (Alara and Tarkir), and even five-color (BfZ) draft archetypes, so feel free to experiment so long as it's clear.
To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

Don't know why I decided to make Kamigawa the card, but I did. The lore here is Kenzo from CHK becoming a lineage title that the heir to the bloodline adopts.

Aerix, Dread Emissary Legendary Creature - Zombie Wizard (2/3) Menace Whenever one or more Zombies you control attack, each opponent mills that many cards. Whenever one or more creature cards or creature tokens are put into an opponent’s graveyard from anywhere, create a tapped 2/2 black Zombie creature token. This ability triggers only once each turn.
Wording on the second ability is admittedly odd but just a quirk of an ability triggering from mill, discard, and death, and I didn't want it to not work with tokens because I always find that counterintuitive.

I wanted to make the ETB trigger care about the amount of creature types you controlled, but it was either too powerful thanks to changeling, or too wordy to try and negate it, so it was scrapped for something far more basic.

quick question -- which frame or which option turns on this legendary-header? i may be a bit to silly to find it on my own :-)

I wanted to make the ETB trigger care about the amount of creature types you controlled, but it was either too powerful thanks to changeling, or too wordy to try and negate it, so it was scrapped for something far more basic. The phrasing I've used for caring about diverse creature types without being broken by Changeling is "For each creature type, choose a creature you control of that type." At most any creature can account for one creature type, and while Changelings do inevitably count for the total, it doesn't go bonkers with just the one. So for that ability, I'd do something like "As CARDNAME enters the battlefield, for each creature type, choose a creature you control of that type. CARDNAME enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it for each of those creatures."

For my own entry, how about we bring Vehicles from Boros to Selesnya? The idea is to create an army of small tokens, then use those to crew big machines..

Rip, so apparently I forgot to post my card for last week's contest, feelsbadman. It was a Forecast card that gave creatures Echo equal to the colored pips in their mana cost. Anyway, hopefully this creature isn't too complex for an uncommon? My whole niche is jamming as many words as possible on a card lol

Paragon, Fist of the Legion (R)(R)(W)(W) Legendary Creature - Angel Knight (Uncommon) Flying Mentor (Whenever this creature attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on target attacking creature with lesser power.) If a mentor ability of a creature you control would trigger, it instead triggers twice. Each instance of mentor can target a creature only once. 2/4 Flavor text that wouldn't fit: His given name was long ago forgotten, he was simply known as the first in and the last out.{Older Text}Paragon, Fist of the Legion (R)(R)(W)(W) Legendary Creature - Angel Knight (Uncommon) Flying Mentor (Whenever this creature attacks, put a +1/+1 counter on target attacking creature with lesser power.) It's been a minute but I am back! Got married and a bit sidetracked but I plan on being active once again I thought it would be interesting if Modal Double Faced cards ever made it into a Ravnica set in the future, so here's my concept for what a MDFC signpost would be for the Izzet guild. The idea is that the signposts for this set would be based on the cards of former guild leaders, in this case Niv Mizzet, taking their abilities and splitting them across both faces of the card. With Niv Mizzet it was fairly simple - Isranac, Parun’s Advisor focuses on card draw and Zigigdiz, Firemind’s Heir focuses on dealing damage. I included the untap abilities partly because I thought untap abilities were really cool when they came out (possibly one of the only people with fond memories of the mechanic), but also because I thought it could bring down the power levels of the cards while leaving the door open to cool synergies in commander. Let me know what you think! {Text Version} Isranac, Parun’s Advisor 2UU Legendary Creature — Wizard :uncommon: Flying Whenever a player casts an instant or sorcery spell, you draw a card. Untap: Draw a card. 2/3 ---Other Side---
Zigigdiz, Firemind’s Heir 2RR Legendary Creature — Dragon Flying Whenever you draw a card, Zigigdiz, Firemind’s Heir deals 1 damage to any target. Untap: Zigigdiz, Firemind’s Heir deals 1 damage to any target. 3/2

He of Flame and Fel Legendary Creature - Demon Samurai Whenever you draw a card, you may discard a card. Whenever you discard a card, He of Flame and Fel deals 1 damage to any target. “Here I am, come Flame and Fel. Fight and die, or flee and tell.”3/3
Did you know samurai wrote poetry? So I made a demon samurai poet.

I have a set themed around broad 4 color archetypes that I thought would be fun for this. The theme for non-black is "Activated abilities"; my reasoning for that was Zirda and Biomancer's Familiar.

Spells with trample you cast cost 1/G less to cast. 3/2 Technically the hybrid mana symbols are unneeded, but at least this way makes it clear that it does lower colored or generic costs.

Technically the hybrid mana symbols are unneeded I'm pretty sure they are not? Obviously reducing generic mana only works on generic mana, but all four cards reducing colored mana all exclusively reduce mana of said color(s) as well..

Obviously reducing generic mana only works on generic mana, but all four cards reducing colored mana all exclusively reduce mana of said color(s) as well.. Ah, but that isn't reminder text about how colored mana reductions work, but explicit rules text, meaning if it wasn't there the card would function differently. Interestingly, the rules actually account for reducing colored costs beyond their colors. As for whether that's actually a good idea to do (or even remotely reasonable as a DRAFT ARCHETYPE, which I'd like to remind people is the challenge this week, not just "make a two-mana commander you'd like to play") is up for debate, but the rules would absolutely support just having "Cost less to cast" and reducing the cost even for cards with no in their cost.
