“A reminder of my past.”SILVER BORDEREDElectromagnetic Pulse Thopter Artifact - Thopter Flying When ~ enters the battlefield, you may shock your opponent. If you do, put a +1/+1 counter on ~ and it becomes a creature. (You must physically touch them and you both must feel a spark of electricity.) T: Target artifact loses all abilities until the end of the turn. If it’s an equipment, unattach it from the permanent it was equipping. “Your tools of war and violence have no place here!” - Cyria 0/0 Your card is good! Looking online, allies haven’t really done anything pertaining to cost reduction, and I like the simple use of unexplored design space for Allies specifically. 8/10

Just wanted to both bump my thread, as battle boards has been beginning to start back up again, and also to say that I've added a list of all the cards I've made for the battle boards in my original post! (Also, every time I edit my original post, a bunch of empty lines get randomly added and I have to delete them all. Does anyone know how to fix that?)

"Hi there" says a youthful woman with pink hair as she approaches "I think I've seen you at the robot man's place... I say, that's a nice-looking weapon you have there, mind if I give it a try?"Reckless Wielding Sorcery Gain control of target artifact until end of turn. Untap it. It gains haste until end of turn. If that artifact is an Equipment, you may attach it to target creature you control. "I pray that he doesn't find the place where I hid the bullets..."

Cyria grins. "Look again."Silver-BorderedDecoy Artifact , Reveal Decoy from your hand: Switch it with target artifact you control. If a spell would affect Decoy, it loses all abilities and gains "You lose 3 life." instead. (A spell affects a permanent if it would target it, move it into a different zone, or changes its characteristics in any way.)"Ingenuity is what leads the brightest discoveries of mankind. Common sense is what protects them from the forces of evil." - CyriaReckless Wielding - At first glance, I thought this seemed underpowered, but realizing the effect it has with equipment makes it a really interesting card! The ability to steal an equipment and attach it to your own creature, and then have them not be able to regain control of the equipment without paying the mana cost makes this a good card that takes away from an opponent's tempo while also gaining an advantage on one of your attacks. I think, without reminder text, this should be uncommon, but that's a really small problem, so I'll give it a 9/10. Great job!

Decoy: I'm guessing the difference between switch and exchange is that switching will not counter the spell for a lack of target when the switch takes place. I like the idea of changing the spell's ability to give it a downside, I'm not so thrilled that the best way to achieve this is by using blue mana since that means you're spending blue mana for a black/red effect. 7/10.
"Oh, it's just a fake? What a buzzkill!" says Aylin obviously disappointed "For a second there I thought you were the least bit interesting..."
(can't think of any card atm, but probably will continue this later)

"Hey, you!" Okus called out to the strange girl flying down the street. "You seem less crazy than everyone else here. We should team up! I can show you the Arena, and you can show me how this contraption works." Eye in the Sky Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Enchanted creature has flying. Your opponents play with their hands revealed.

Cyria to the woman. "I appreciate the compliment, but I believe by your world's standards, I am plenty "crazy", as it were. I might benefit from learning about this Arena, so I will come with you. But be warned, try to cross me, and I will not relent."Gust Machine Artifact Whenever a creature with flying attacks, you gain 2 life. Sacrifice Gust Machine: Return target creature with flying to its owner's hand. Eyes in the Skies: This is a good, flavorful combination of two very simple effects that create an interesting card that would be a lot of fun to play. There's nothing super special about this card, but I'll give a 9/10 for a solid and creative flavorful design.

The child's hands held Okus tight at the gust of wind from Cyria, strong enough to knock her off balance, but luckily not the hat. "Well, you're the fun kind of crazy, instead of the mean kind of crazy." they explained. "So what kind of things do you want to see?" Karina spun around to point out the destinations, "We can go to the colosseum if you like the fights, or the outlands if you like real fights." Okus paused for another moment. What else would the girl like? The Arena didn't have much else besides... "Or if you're hungry, there's this bakery near my w-school with the best cakes on the whole Arena! Little secret of mine." It turned back to examine Cyria's odd machinery, unlike anything it had seen in its travels. "Orrr if you want to find something to tinker with, we can visit a planar merchant? I like the ones with the weird animals, but there's lots with machines and things too." The hat smiled as it waited for the girl to respond, or to 'not relent'.Guided Tour Enchantment - Saga I - Guided Tour deals 3 damage to target creature or player. II - Each player sacrifices a creature. You gain life equal to those creature's total toughness. III - Return target artifact or creature card from your graveyard to your hand. Gust Machine - This hoses flying so hard it might be green : p Since it triggers on your own attacks as well as giving enemy fliers -2/-0, probably a touch too cheap, but it's a fun one 9/10

cajun: Cyria puts her hand on her chin, thinking for a moment. "Alright," she says, "one of these planar merchants would be interesting to visit. I have some things I'd like to trade anyways." She pulls out a glowing stone from her pocket. "Picked this up from a Nyxian dealer, and I'd love to get rid of it. Anyways, lead the way!"Merchant's Accord Sorcery Target opponent gains control of target nonland permanent you control. Whenever an ability of that permanent becomes triggered or activated, copy it twice. You may choose new targets for the copies. Mana abilities can't be copied this way. (This effect lasts indefinitely.)"No, you can have it. It would honestly be better for me!" - CyriaGuided Tour - Cool card with powerful and interesting abilities, but there's really no flavorful or mechanical theme that fits the card well. Furthermore, although the first ability is technically fine in black, it feels wrong as a part of a mono-black enchantment, so I'll give it a 7/10.

Merchant's Accord - this thing is wild. probably wants a counter or something as a reminder but i love this too much to not 10/10(psst, compare it to the places to go : p) We lead Cyria to the marketplace, taking a quick glance for hats in the animal cages but not stopping until they had reached the dealers of the inorganic, the curious machines, the sparkling gems, the indestructible metals."Ye, I don't think whatcha got'er is real, missy," a merchant wheezed as he looked at her glowing stone. "I could giv'ya a whole gold coin for ya troubles, and that's a charity right there, probably won't be earning that back!" He held out the coin and started reaching for the stone.Interplanar Market Enchantment , Discard a card with converted mana cost X: You may choose a card you own from outside the game with converted mana cost X or less, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Everything is available to those willing to take the time to find it.

cajunInterplanar Market - This is wild and I love it so much. I am generally a fan of sideboard manipulation, and I like how it doesn't give card advantage but instead gives you incredible card selections. Also, the flavor is on point! 10/10! (Also, I didn't realize the thing with the saga until now. If I'm allowed to change my score, it's a 9/10 now.) Cyria frowns and snaps her fingers. The shopkeeper flinches and looks around, dazed. Cyria looks him in the eye and hands the stone to him. "I believe you said ten gold coins for this stone?" The shopkeeper, with eyes glazed over, nods and hands Cyria ten gold coins. She responds "Thank you." and takes the money from him. She turns around to face Karina. "Simple distraction spell. Not my wheelhouse, but he was trying to swindle me and I won't stand for it."Glaze Over Sorcery Tap target permanent. You may activate activated abilities of that permanent until the end of the turn. Draw a card.

Glaze Over - Wee bit worried about this sniping walker ults for 1, but have to give brownie points for the flavor 9/10"Woah," the hat whispered in genuine surprise. "How'd you do that?" It clumsily failed to snap Karina's fingers a few times before giving a nervous laugh. "What other tricks do you know? I only know this lame one where everyone ignores me cause I'm short." they said with a small pout.Sneaking Underfoot Enchantment - Aura Enchant creature Enchanted creature can't be blocked by creatures with greater power. Whenever enchanted creature deals combat damage to a player, you may activate one of it's activated abilities without paying its activation cost.

Sneaking Underfoot - This is a super solid card that works really well on a mechanical level and feels pretty good flavorfully. I don't actually have a problem with anything in it, so that's a 10/10 from me! “Well, how’d you like to get bigger?”Inducer of Rage Artifact - Equipment Equip Equipped creature gets +2/+2 and loses all abilities. Whenever a creature deals combat damage to you, you may equip Inducer of Rage to it.

"Now, what are you gonna do with all that gold you just got? Got any crazy gizmos you wanna spend it on?"Crazy Gizmos Enchantment Whenever an artifact you control becomes untapped, each opponent puts the top two cards of their library into their graveyard. , Tap two untapped artifacts you control: Scry 2. Inducer of Rage - is also the inducer of layers weirdness, cause any abilities it gains after its equipped aren't lost...but are if you reequip it to the same thing. fun idea but a little wonked thanks to the rules getting in the way 8/10

Post by gateways7 on Feb 14, 2019 16:07:59 GMT
Crazy Gizmos - This is a fun design, and the two abilities work really well together, but the first one does feel a little bit weird. This is really good, though, so I'll give it a 9/10. Cyria looks around. "Well, it doesn't seem like there's anything I need from any of these vendors, but there might be something you have that I might want to add to my collection. Would you be willing to trade me for that hat? There's some intense magical signal coming off of it that I want to investigate."Barter Sorcery Gain control of all noncreature artifacts and enchantments that you don't control. For each permanent you gain control of this way, its owner draws a card and gains 2 life. "Sorry I stole your hat. Here's some cool stuff."

|

Post by cajun on Feb 14, 2019 16:57:58 GMT
"No!" she blurted, grabbing the brim of the hat with both hands. "I mean, it's the only thing I have left from home." She looked down and tried to recover. "I don't have anything... anyone to go back to. Just me and my hat against the world now."
"If you're looking for some real magic stuff, there's another girl I know that we could pay a visit. She's working on some kind of tunnel-y, planeswalk-y thing." Private Life Enchantment Opponents can't look at your hand, search your library, control, or gain control of permanents you own. "You don't know everything about me."
(lmk if this is too defensive for you to defend >.>) Barter - this is potentially a ton of permanent mind controls for next to nothing. would probably start this at four mana also i don't think its bartering if you take it no matter what 7/10

cajun Private Life - This is a nice flavorful card, but is probably pretty narrow and most of time time won't be that useful. (Also, some text like Trostani Discordant might work better than "players can't control permanents you own", as I'm not exactly sure what would happen if you played it while an opponent already had control of something you own.) However, when it does work, it's pretty good - 7.5/10.Cyria thinks for a second and takes a long look at Karina, then speaks. "Sure," she says, "meeting this girl might be useful for my advancements in the future. Lead the way." Then, she waits until Karina is turns around to release a tiny, silent drone into the air.Snatcher of Secrets Artifact Opponents play with their hands revealed. , : Exile target noncreature permanent. At the end of the turn, return it to the battlefield. Inquisitive minds have questions. Determined minds find the answers. Adept minds make sure no one else finds out. korakhos (sorry about missing that one, I was thinking of a response, couldn't figure it out, and then completely forgot about it.) Enraged Prying - This is a solid card with interesting mechanical and flavorful sides, and I am a fan of cards that punish card draw. 9/10.Cyria looks confused for a second, then her face resolves in determination. "I don't know what you're talking about, but if you're looking for a fight, I won't deny you the opportunity." She puts on a pair of welding goggles and a beam of energy bursts from them, narrowly missing the geomancer. "Warning shot." Blastvision Goggles Artifact - Equipment Equip Equipped creature gets +2/+0. If you would draw a card, if Pyrovision Goggles is equipped to a creature, instead exile the top two cards of your library. You may play those cards until the end of the turn. Fight fire with fire.

Blastvision Goggles: really cool, flavorful way of implementing red's impulse draw in colorless. I'm a bit concerned with it broadening your options on every draw and would rather have this trigger on the first draw of each turn. 8/10. Aylin hears the explosion right next to her. She barely had any time to react to the attack, so if it would've been a direct hit she probably wouldn't have had time to defend herself. Her heartbeat increases as adrenaline pours into her veins.Oh what a great time to be alive she thinks ecstatic as she prepares for retaliation. She buries both her hands in the ground and lifts up a massive rock, hurling it on Cyria's general direction, but it flies past her by quite a few inches. When it reaches the right position, Aylin clenches both fists and the rock crumbles into hundreds of tiny chunks that fall towards Cyria like a small meteor rain.Rubble Rain Instant ~ deals 5 damage to target creature with flying. If a creature is dealt damage this way, it loses indestructible until end of turn. If that creature would die this turn, exile it instead.
|
|
|
Post by gateways7 on Feb 15, 2019 0:54:46 GMT
Rubble Rain - This is a pretty interesting take on the Burn from Within style card as a weaker-powered removal spell, but flying hate does feels a little weird in mono-red. Maybe if it had green as well, it would make more sense. 8/10.Cyria looked at the oncoming rain of debris about to fall on her and acted decisively. She smashed the button of a machine, and as an electric pulse shot out from it, she ducked.Grounding Machine Artifact Whenever a creature with flying attacks you, it gets -1/-0 until the end of the turn. , Sacrifice Grounding Machine: Creatures can't have or gain flying until the end of the turn. For each creature that lost flying this way, their controller gains 1 life. "Get down here!"
|
|
|
Post by korakhos on Feb 15, 2019 2:21:17 GMT
Grounding Machine: could probably sideboard its way in in a limited environment. I understand that since the idea is to "crack it to respond to my challenge" you'd probably want to make the most out of it, but honestly its sac ability could do without the gaining life part. 7/10. The shockwave successfully disintegrates the rock chunks and the impact wave shoots towards Aylin, who barely has enough time to stick her forearms together and place them in front of her face to summon an earthy armor to mitigate the blow. She gets sent flying backwards and falls on her back. Finding herself in this situation -fighting another woman and lying on the ground with an armor to protect from the incoming attacks- a memory triggers. She's been in this situation before, with Kirino... She tries to dissipate the thought and spurr back into action but she can't get rid of Karina's words..."Maybe it was that 'giarb' Kirino leaving you those gifts."It makes more sense than this "Cyria" doing so... the woman is clearly mad (something Aylin respects) but she has no reason to have sent the gifts, and besides... the kitten came before their first interaction...This is why I hate having time to think she reproaches herself. Then gets up."Trust me!" she screams at the woman in the sky "There is nothing I loathe more than running in the middle of a battle, but there's something much more important I need to tend to... This is not over yet, though! I intend to return and give you a run for your money!"She turns around trying to shake away the shame and starts heading away from Cyria.Yield the Advantage Sorcery Creatures can't block this turn. Up to one target creature gets +2/+0 until end of turn. "There is no shame in running away..." "Who are you trying to fool?! Of course there is!"(Note: this whole story moment was meant to tie in what just happened with what's happening right now on the Boards)

me, reading this with no context: what the fuck me, reading that this ties into the story: oh ok me, reading that you strangled a cat: what the fuckYield the Advantage - A nice and simple common that could pretty easily see print. 9/10.Cyria looks on in confusion as Aylin runs off after instigating a fight for seemingly no reason. She shrugs. "Well, that was fucking weird, but she said she'll come back. I'd better prepare." With that, she takes out a sphere from her belt and begins to tinker. "Speaking of fucking weird!"Silver-BorderedSphere of En-vowel-ment Artifact Whenever a player casts a spell with a name that starts with a vowel, sacrifice Sphere of En-vowel-ment and counter that spell. (A, e, i, o, u are vowels. Y can be a vowel, but only if you ask nicely. H is a vowel if you're French.)"Ay amigo, (y?)ou've earned an annihilation. Sphere of En-vowel-ment does everything a card should not do: it cares about specific names and even about what language the card is printed in... and I freaking love it! As Cyria tinkered with her machines late at night, she reflected on her battle with Aylin and her travels with Okus, she realized something about herself. Her willingness to duel with Aylin demonstrated recklessness and a willingness to fight. Her quick decisiveness in her actions with Okus showed quick, impulsive thinking. The laws of her world, while having structure, also enforced the laws of chaos.
She spun a bright crimson wrench in her hand as she tightened a screw. "Maybe a little bit of chaos isn't so bad."

Vicious Mockery - This card feels conflicted. It's either a much worse Tormenting Voice or a much worse Lightning Strike / Lava Spike. There doesn't really feel like a time where this would be good or fun to play, as, in both scenarios, it will hurt more than it helps. 6/10.Cyria looks at the vulpine figure in front of her and grins. "You know, there's a time and a place for both regulation and unpredictability. Now might be an example of that." Cyria grabs a vial from behind her and hurls it at As'han, then flies into the air with her thopter and prepares a spell. "Take that, Ass'hat!"Revise Sorcery Exile the top card of your library and target card in your graveyard. You may play those cards until the end of the turn. "Learn from the past to shape the future."
