Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our three-hundred and sixtieth challenge! The winner of the "Land-Mans" poll were Daij_Djan (left) and itsmekidney (right) with...And the challenge issued by one of our winners was... My very first ever time really enjoying Magic is when my wife and I bought the Commander 2018 decks. There's something special about commander decks, and my favorites are the ones that take a popular theme such as landfall or topdeck, and then move them into new color identities, introducing all sorts of new strategies and design space. So let's do just that. First go to EDHREC and choose either a Commander deck tribe or a theme to work with. Obviously let us know which tribe or theme you chose. Then take a look at the most popular color combinations listed at the top. Your goal is to create a Commander card (AKA a card that can be your commander) with a color identity of some combination of up to 3 colors that does not appear on either of those lists.{For example..} For example if you look at the most popular Mill commanders, you get these color combinations: Pick any other combination of up to three colors, like Bant, and design a commander with the chosen color identity. Technically you can chose a tribe or theme with no popular color combinations at all, like Familiars for example, and design any commander you want – but I might argue it's a harder sell since there's not a lot to work with. While not part of a card creation contest, it might be fun to mention some of the cards you could play in these colors that aren't possible in the most popular commanders. We've had creature commanders and planeswalker commanders, and now with those two faced cards we can have commanders that are literally any card type, so I don't think I'm being too restrictive here. To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

As I just turned off my computer, just a quick concept for now: LifegainMDFC: At the beginning of your end step, you gain 3 life for each card you've drawn this turn. At the beginning of your end step, draw a card for every 3 life you've gained this turn.

Decided to try a different version, as the old one just didn't feel like it put a new spin on artifacts. I think this version fits the challenge a bit better; it uses green's hatred of artifacts to create a sort of cheap artifact based combo deck. I used the "destroy" wording instead of sacrifice to allow for some interesting interactions with indestructible artifacts. Maybe Darksteel Relic will finally be useful!
I decided to try mono green artifacts, drawing some parallels with Breya, the most popular artifact commander. Interestingly, I think it's very green to sacrifice artifacts for benefit, since green doesn't "like" artifacts anyway.

Sacrifice is often about sacrificing other creatures for value. But is more honor-bound, if a bit rash. It rewards self-sacrifice:

Aliid, Spellflint Avenger Planeswalker - Aliid Whenever an artifact enters the battlefield under your control, you may put a loyalty counter on Aliid. : Exile the top three cards of your library. Until end of turn, you may play artifact cards exiled this way. : Target opponent discards X cards. For each card discarded this way, they lose 3 life and you gain 3 life. ~ can be your commander. My goal was to make a Mardu Artifacts commander that did not involve sacrificing. Based on Aliid "Lightning-Hands" Marish from a previous Commander game round. To continue with the western themes, the plane he lives on is eventually overrun by a more modern society akin to Kaladesh and Ravnica, making Spellslingers like him criminals. In a climatic spellsling-fight, he sparks and is transported to another European plane, where he adopts technology akin to the kind that left him to rot in a jail on the verge of death. The idea is that playing artifacts symbolically represents Aliid "loading" his Spellflints, giving your mana rocks an opportunity to be useful lategame and encouraging mass ETB manipulation of artifact creatures via mass flickering such as Ghostway or mass reanimation such as Command the Dreadhorde. In the event you're empty, Aliid's 0 symbolizes you and him both digging for new valid sources of ammunition and potentially helping to enable Bell Borca, Spectral Sergeant. Once you're loaded up, Aliid can unleash his fury by firing on an opponent and robbing them of their livelihood (their cards), but Aliid's effectiveness is limited by the amount of wrath he can execute upon his target. This prevents him from easily one-shot killing anyone but potentially makes him a tricky group-slug commander rocking things like Howling Mine, Seizan, Perverter of Truth, and Wheel of Misfortune to mess with people who think they can get greedy off your 'assistance'.

I went with blue/black Populate. {Text} Linda, Dreadhorde Lieutenant Legendary Creature - Human Warlock , Sacrifice a creature: Populate. 2/1 // Eternalize Sorcery - Adventure Exile target creature card from a graveyard. Create a token that’s a copy of it, except it’s a 4/4 black Zombie.

viriss I like the general concept here, though I agree with sdfkjgh in that it does need some tweaking. I feel like the activated ability could save a lot of text by doing a more streamlined version, maybe something like this?
"RW, T, Discard a creature card: Create X 1/1 red and white Spirit creature tokens with first strike and infect, where X is the discarded card's mana value."
This still gets across the idea of the ability, I think, but it saves some wording. I think you could also give it the Spellshaper creature type if you wanted, since its ability is reminiscent of that tribe.
dangerousdice I don't see any black in those cards, so I don't think it's quite Jund.
Nonagon Infinity I think you could improve your wording a bit on some of your abilities. "If an instant or sorcery spell you control would be put into your graveyard, you may pay 2 instead. If you do, exile that spell. If it doesn't have suspend, it gains suspend."
I believe this combines all three abilities into one, while still maintaining the same functionality as you had it. If the spell is countered, it goes to the graveyard and so you can pay the 2. If the spell resolves normally, you can pay the 2. And then, either way, it will make sure those spells have suspend.
Giraculum Can I just say that I love this card and this concept?! It's so simple and such a natural evolution of the colors. My only complaint is that I think the activation cost of the ability is far too expensive. Considering its on your commander, I think it would be more fitting to have a cost more like RW, since the commander tax will keep the ability from being too cheap anyway.
Orion Rings I'm also a huge fan of this card. Like you said, equipments kind of just sit there after you play them, so it's cool to give them something to do!

I was kinda surprised that with Amonkhet having a bunch of white Zombies, we didn't have a white/black Zombie commander, so, from the Broken Lands of Amonkhet, here's my entry: {Card Text}Hircid, Ramunap Haunt Legendary Creature - Zombie Bird Flying Whenever another Zombie you control dies, target opponent loses life equal to its power and you gain life equal to its toughness. WB, Exile two cards from your graveyard: Create a 2/2 black Zombie creature token. 1/3

I've gone with Shapeshifter (changeling) tribal, which is also an archetype I'm currently trying to make work in a weird little cube I'm currently putting together.
"Quoz" is an archaic word that means "an odd or absurd person or thing". I'm imagining that's the name used for changelings on the plane this creature is from.
Tir, Quoz of Bone and Soul Legendary Creature - Shapeshifter Changeling (This card is every creature type at all times.)Whenever another creature you control dies, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature you control that shares a creature type with it. , , Sacrifice another creature: Return a card that shares a creature type with the sacrificed creature from your graveyard to your hand. Activate only as a sorcery. 5/5

Aarhg : So that explains Amulet of Quoz' name. Still doesn't explain why the artist chose to use such racist imagery.

I am not sure if this counts, because it could be considered a populate theme, but I decided to do Green Clones. I like green's general take of creatures making token copies of themselves. This was almost just a legendary Giant Adephage, but I decided to make it a little more fun.

I am not sure you linked the right thing, but the majority of these types of effects don't give haste. I know it has been common for land animation lately to keep people from misplaying, but I think the haste is just a little extra that I don't think is needed for nonland stuff.

I keep forgetting that I can enter contests I started. Here's an idea I had for a Bant Vehicles deck. Vehicles are sort of weird theme in that there really aren't a lot of dedicated commanders for it, especially when you consider that vehicles are deciduous. That means the EDHrecs page has "Top Commanders" with as few as 15 decks. Tokens in both white and green love to make tokens to crew them, and so I made this variant of Bant's famous "exalted" mechanic to encourage crewing and maybe even overcrewing your vehicles. Waldemar himself can mutate over a vehicle to turn it into a creature permanently (where it sadly won't receive the vehicle benefits), or can crew under a vehicle to give it flying and vigilance. There's no mechanical reason for the old frame, I just like it.

This is my very first post on this forum, so I hope I am following directions ok. Anyways, I decided to go with a Voltron card. I know the card looks a little sloppy, but I am trying to work the ins and outs of the MTG Set editor. In any case, here is my card!
