I follow the annual Nuts & Bolts articles from WotC on how they approach designing official sets (worth a read if you've never had the chance), but this year Maro went back and updated the previous article on the design skeleton. It provides the common and uncommon skeleton and all the default design slots for a large set. This is a solid gold starting point for those who are new to set design, or want to conform to the standards of a modern MtG design environment. Enjoy! magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/nuts-bolts-13-design-skeleton-revisited-2021-03-22

Awesome, but sort of frustrating that he published it right before Wizards added new evergreen keyword, making it immediately obsolete. :) I imagine "Ward " could mostly take the place of hexproof in this document, but maybe be a little more common? It's supposed to fit in all colors with appropriate costs, though, which hexproof didn't.

Awesome, but sort of frustrating that he published it right before Wizards added new evergreen keyword, making it immediately obsolete. I imagine "Ward " could mostly take the place of hexproof in this document, but maybe be a little more common? It's supposed to fit in all colors with appropriate costs, though, which hexproof didn't. Considering that Red and Black appear to be getting "Ward - Pay X life" as opposed to "Ward - Pay X", perhaps it could replace or alternate with a damage-related keyword slot like First Strike, Menace, Trample, Flying, or Lifelink? It seems like a big point of Red/Black Ward will be that it aggressively threatens to win the game unless you're willing to take damage upfront. For White you could treat it similar to slots that normally would get indestructible or protection effects (though you can probably be a lot more lenient with what Ward goes on as opposed to the other two.)
