Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our three-hundred and fifty-seventh challenge! The winner of the "Hate Bearers" poll was itsmekidney with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... One thing I've been getting really excited about is a return to the time honored tradition of cute animal cards. Rin and Seri, Fearless Pup, every bird card ever printed... Small animals tend to have low CMC but have a lot of room to have interesting affects, and are spread around all rarities (though they tend to live in the commons and uncommons). I'd love to see what everyone can do here!! To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

If I understand correctly the challenge is "Create a permanent card that represents an animal that is in the real world and in universe smaller then a human and that you find cute."?

@ ZephyrPhantom: Big thanks for stepping in @ bazzboda: It's pretty much "design a cute animal". I don't think it has to be a RL one, so for now I'll leave this concept here for now: Scaled Young long Creature - Dragon Flying Dragoncycling 2/2 (no render yet as my computer has broken down)

Daij_Djan - No problem, fixed your symbols while I was at it too. I know this seems like it could be a primarily art competition but I wanted to try something that mechanically represented the idea of "Cute": Scruffed Pup Creature - Dpg Adorable (This card can't be targeted by spells your opponents control with converted mana cost greater than its power.)1/1 Through ghastly famines and dark slums, he always hears the same words - "Who's a good boy?"Adorable is essentially a mechanic that rewards creatures for seeming harmless by allowing you to manipulate their power to dodge all sorts of nasty removal that would fly their way. Because it doesn't check for toughness (as long as it's harmless it can be 'cute'), it also doubles as a way for cards like High Alert to run high-toughness spell-resistant creatures as a sort of way to "provoke the stampede" of larger animals that might seem docile (think elephants) until aggressively interrupted. Being primarily a defensive creature-based keyword comparable to things like protection, hexproof, and shroud, Adorable is most likely to show up in , though it can occasionally get am instance out of those colors if the context is appropriate.

Do anthropomorphic animals count in this case? I was thinking about designing a card using some art from Redwall or something.

I think I was mostly looking for little guys

I am trying to capture the idea of a small animal that all the heroes have to drop everything to protect.

Can I enter this contest since it's my own? I'm going to post this and if it's not valid it can just not be in the poll.

At a surface level I could just say it's a killer Koala and leave it at that, and if you're Australian you probably already know the joke, but if you'll indulge me to waffle on for a minute I'll explain it. Australia has this campfire story/cryptid/elaborate inside joke called the Drop Bear. It's a story mostly used to spook foreigners for a laugh (sorry Americans, usually you guys). The story goes that there's an animal closely related to the Australian Koala called the Drop Bear. The Drop Bear is carnivorous as opposed to herbivorous, nocturnal, and lives in either the forest or the outback depending on who's telling the story. It attacks it's prey at night by falling out of trees onto animals and unlucky travelers and don't let go until they've had their meal. Some variants of the story include how to ward them off, usually rubbing Vegemite behind your ears. Speedy approves of this post.
Although, you need to spell out "Put two -1/-1..."

The defective hard drive has been removed from my computer, so I'm back on track - with a render:

Since the card render uses old school wording, here's the oracle text:
Foraging Badgers Creature - Badger When Foraging Badgers enters the battlefield, for each player with one or more cards in their graveyard, return target card from that player’s graveyard to their hand. 1/2

This is cute, but I'm sort of surprised it's a goose and not a bird (also did you mean to not give it flying?)

Sort of a golden fleece reference, but also he's a financial advisor who will lead your portfolios to stonks.
