Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest! Here we go, competitors: our three-hundred and fifty-sixth challenge! The winner of the "Feats of the Future" poll was Daij_Djan with...And the challenge issued by our winner was... As you might know, the first official Strixhaven spoiler is up – a new cycle of Commands dedicated to the plane's five colleges. Inspired by this, your new challenge is to design a modal card, however do not just use the old classic „Choose one“. These are all official cards fitting this challenge, but feel free to be as creative as you want and have fun! To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post. And now, time to begin the challenge! Best of luck, competitors!

Molecular Insight Instant Choose zero or more — • Draw a card, then discard a card. • Mill 1. "Sometimes the greatest lessons are found from pondering the quotar's inert state."Can build storm count, trigger second-spell-matters like Codespell Cleric, or be a bad Opt, whatever you desire it to be.

This is one of the more wordy cards I've made in a while, but I really wanted to capture the concept of "Good, fast, cheap. Pick two."
I enjoy the weirdness this card has to offer, even if it's a bit messy to look at.
Cranky Assembler Artifact Creature — Assembly-Worker As Cranky Assembler enters the battlefield, choose two from among Good, Fast, and Cheap. • Good — Each creature token created with Cranky Assembler enters the battlefield with an additional +1/+1 counter on it. • Fast — Cranky Assembler has haste. • Cheap — Activated abilities of Cranky Assembler cost less to activate. , : Create a 1/1 colorless Construct artifact creature token. 3/3

I got inspired and made not one, but five modal cards! (Only the first is my entry, but I figured I would share the rest of the cycle .) I was going to find art, but I realized that what I needed for my cards would be hard to find barring just ripping art off of existing cards, which I didn't really want to do. Edit: realized that Bound By Law as writ made the tokens it created unable to be removed. Now only affects nontoken creatures. {Old Versions}

I'm bringing back the Visions/Tempest-era templating for this: {Text} Esper Channeling Sorcery Multikicker—Choose each mode any number of times you pay its kicker cost. • : Gain 2 life. • : Scry 1, then draw a card. • : Each opponent loses 1 life.

Collective Confluence Instant Escalate—Exile five cards from your graveyard. (Pay this cost for each mode chosen beyond the first.)Choose one or more. You may choose the same mode more than once. • Target creature gets -1/-1 until end of turn. • Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature. • Target player draws a card. I think the modes are harmless enough that this isn't too bonkers. I'm not really sure if five cards is the right number. Maybe I could even reduce it to three cards?

Fermat: What happens if you've cast a commander from its zone more than four times?
Overcharm of the Wilds Instant Multikicker (You may pay an additional any number of times as you cast this spell.) Choose X. For each time this spell was kicked, you may choose the same mode up to one additional time— • Target player creates an X/X green Beast creature token. • Put a +1/+1 counter on target permanent. • Target player chooses land or nonland. That player reveals the top X cards of their library. That player may put any number of cards of the chosen type from among them into their hand. Then that player puts the rest on the bottom of their library in a random order. • Target permanent or player gains hexproof until end of turn.
Like inferno390, this is also part of a 5-card cycle, that started with the one.

Just a bit of white sideboard tech. Decent board for burn and has some utility against shadow.

inverness : I feel like the last option should be "Destroy another target noncreature permanent." Otherwise, you could just target itself, and never have to relinquish control, and that doesn't sound like a treaty to me.
Ral: What about all the treaties the U.S. has broken, especially with the native inhabitants?
Ah, but those treaties originally gave those inhabitants something, or at least promised to give them something, before the gov't broke them. They were prolly broken because the gov't had to give the indiginous population something. But this is a secant.
Tl;dr: last option needs "another" in order to make the first ability's control changing actually relevant.

No Choice Zero Mana Cost Instant Rare
Choose zero --
- Gain 4 life.
- Draw a card.
- Target player discards a card.
- Deal 3 damage to any target.
- Choose a color and creature type. Create a 2/2
creature token of that color and type. Then if you chose each mode exactly once, you win the game.

Yes, yes it is. Since the Xanatos gambit is about winning no matter what choice your enemies make, I figure he'd be a good thematic fit for a card named "No Choice."

Okay so listen, it's important for this to remember that you can crew a vehicle more than one time. There's a card that has defender and first strike called Wall of Razors that is not good per say, but is still pretty fun to use, and I wanted to capture that feeling of having potentially a blocker for anything; maybe even the perfect blocker. Included is the Time Spiral Remastered version.

sdfkjgh: I believe that with this wording, the "cap" would be the selection of all four modes.

sdfkjgh : I believe that with this wording, the "cap" would be the selection of all four modes. Are you sure about that? Because the multikicker function would seem to disagree. Do you have a better way to word it to allow the multikicker to work as intended?
Let's use a concrete example:
You pay in order to choose the first mode twice, which nets you two 2/2s. Are you saying that won't work?

Consumed by the Earth Sorcery Sacrifice any number of creatures, then choose that many modes. You may choose the same mode more than once. -Draw a card. -Create a 2/2 black Zombie creature token. -Put a +1/+1 counter on each creature you control.

spazlaz, you could probably write this as -Target player discards a card -Destroy target creature. You lose 5 life. -Draw 3 cards. You lose 5 life.

spazlaz, you could probably write this as -Target player discards a card -Destroy target creature. You lose 5 life. -Draw 3 cards. You lose 5 life. The restriction counts also for the lose 5 life modes. So you'd still need the order restriction. And yes, I think 3 modes this way looks nicer than 5 modes. Why would you choose to lose 5 life wihtout the benefit anyway (unless you are mindslavered of course)?

sdfkjgh: I'm not sure, actually. I thought the lack of the explicit "You may choose a mode more than once" would limit it. Now that you mention it, though, I've pondered and think it may be better templated as: "Choose up to X, where X is the number of times you've cast your commander from the command zone this turn."
