Welcome to the Card of the Week Contest! To participate in this Contest you'll have to design a card along the contest guidelines and throw it into the arena with other competitors' entries! At the end of each week, a winner will be determined by forum poll. The winner's card will be rendered and featured on the Welcome page, and the winner decides the challenge for the next week's Contest!
Here we go, competitors: our three-hundred and forty-ninth challenge!
This challenge is simple: Create a creature card that features a brand-new creature type! It could be something that older cards could be errata'd into, like the recent reveal of Phyrexian as a creature type, or it could be something never-before-seen in Magic, as long as no currently existing card has that type. Yes, that includes silver-border!
To increase your chances of winning and to also make creating the poll easier on whomever is doing so, please try to use a render. Additionally, please try to keep your entry edits all in one post - if you need to change it you can put your old entry in a spoiler marked "Old entry" and leave the newest rendition to be seen. Just use the edit button in the top/right of your original post.
Munching Faknii 3B Creature - Aye-Aye Demon When Munching Faknii enters the battlefield, create three 1/1 green insect creature tokens. Sacrifice a creature: Munching Faknii gets +X/+X until end of turn, where X equals the number of insects you control. 0/1
i decided to go for a class type rather than a race, since everyone else seems to be doing that introducing Brewer (since Samite Alchemist meant Alchemist was obsoleted), a class that really likes to sacrifice specific cards (in this case, enchantments) to make potions (in this case, instants and sorceries). i also decided to make him legendary so he could be a bit more interesting
Cultists already exist inside the MTG universe, but as creature types go, they tend to have a smattering of Shamans, Wizards or Clerics, so i've decided to group them into one organized group. Edit: Thanks for reminding me for artist credit, had it, but forgot to add it.
The main fantasy races that we are missing in mtg is halfling. One may argue that kithkin are the magic equivalent of halfling, but I don't quite feel that's true. I bet that sooner or later wotc will introduce this creature type as well.
Here's my entry, taken directly from the set I'm working on! (You can find it in the Showcase section: Go check it out!)
Haste Skulk (This creature can’t be blocked by creatures with greater power.) Other creatures you control have skulk. Whenever Battlefield Bloater attacks, creatures defending player controls get +3/+0 until end of turn.
Most worlds would consider the very idea of a Goblin as a chef to be repugnant. Oraluri isn’t most worlds.
We have Artificer, but why not any types for other art/craft jobs? Artisan can cover anything from the painter, to the sculptor, to the chef, and everything in between.
I am surprised that we still don't have any creatures with the Bard subtype! The closest thing we have is Yisan, who is a Rogue. I like the precedent that Yisan set, where "Bards" as a tribe could use verse counters in some way. On top of that, Sagas seem like a fitting thing for Bards to care about, so I designed a commander that would use both mechanics.
Last Edit: Jan 13, 2021 0:11:42 GMT by inverness: Fixed up the card a bit. Now you can choose new targets for the copies. Also, changed from 2/3 to 1/4. Finally, I used some photoshop on the card.
